Dear Parents/Carers

Sometimes it is difficult to write the newsletter, trying to keep it

fresh and interesting. However, with the school’s production of

Peter Pan opening this week, thankfully, I have no such issues.

I was able to attend the last presentation on Tuesday night and

it was an absolute belter.

Thank you to the cast, crew, sound/lighting and all the staff for

their capability, creativity and commitment to this production,

which has provided a real tonic after the SATs and testing.

We see a shift in the feel of the school as we approach the end

of term. Be reassured that the work ethic in school is as strong

as ever, but the way we are choosing to work has slightly

changed.

Looking at pupils on stage, those in the orchestra and helping

back stage (as well as those that designed the tickets and

posters and organised the night) made it really clear that they

are developing a huge range of skills as part of this process. I

saw them developing communication skills, confidence,

resilience, work ethic (the rehearsals have been intense and the

show was performed 4 times) team building, self-esteem,

reflectiveness, organisation, to name but a few. This is really the

strength of middle schools exposed, with the capacity to

develop academic robustness, but with the flexibility and will to

develop the creative elements within our pupils. This ambitious

show was roundly applauded, quite rightly, and I left the stage

as surprised, entertained and as proud as ever.

Have a great weekend .

JUNE—MONTH OF THE SACRED HEART

Our Daily Bread

“Imagine no possessions, I wonder if you can. No need for greed or hunger, a brotherhood of man. Imagine all the people sharing all the world…” Lyrics by John

Lennon

This should be our dream; to share the world and for all of us to have our daily bread.

Contemplate how wonderful it would be if people eat healthy meals together. Some grow food on their own farms, allotments or urban rooftops.

Children all over the world have a varied diet, rich in nutrients they need for their brains and bodies to develop fully.

We can be encouraged by the promises from God for those who are hungry.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” Matthew 5:6

‘He will wipe every tears from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Revelation 21:3-4

INTERRUPT YOURSELF

Sometimes a short break can actually help

you get the job done faster. When stress

threatens your concentration, take a deep

breath, relax your muscles and picture

yourself in a calm environment. After

you’ve unwound, go back to the job.

62 St Bede’s Singers had a fantastic time singing at The Royal Albert Hall last week with the Armonico Consort, part

of a 2000 strong choir with other schools from around the country. We were delighted to sing a great repertoire of songs including Dancing Queen, a Les Miserables medley and Nessun Dorma amongst others. One of the many

highlights was Kevin and Karen Clifton from Strictly Come Dancing performing on the stage accompanied by our voices. Pupils were impeccably behaved and sang like angels. (Mrs R Eastwood)

St Bede’s School Show this year, Peter Pan, was a huge

success. Peter Pan (Harrison Mayne), Wendy (Katie Mellors) and Captain Hook (Bella Kennedy) led the cast beautifully in J M Barrie’s re-telling of the classic story. Months and months of preparation behind the scenes was

ably led by Mrs Finn and Miss Mogg, with the very conscientious hard-working cast, orchestra and crew producing a show which was a delight to watch. Many thanks and congratulations to all staff and pupils involved – it is such a

pleasure. to see the amazing wealth of talent we have at St Bede’s. (Mrs R Eastwood)

Oscar Rees (5EO) met TV celebrity chefs The Hairy Bikers last week, when they were filming in Bromsgrove.

The celebrity duo were delighted to have some photos taken with him – including a selfie with Si (Simon) King!

Request for resources

On the second swap day in July, our pupils will be involved in an Enrichment activity that includes making something (I don’t want to say anymore at the moment and spoil the surprise!) We need large quantities of card and cardboard for this activity and I am taking this opportunity to ask students to bring in any suitable unwanted boxes. The thinner the cardboard the better, as it will be easier to cut. Resources should be taken to either Lab 1 or to Technology. Thanking you in advance for your support.

John Kitchen—Head STEM Faculty

Finlay Heath - a friendly member of 6LP and being involved in all aspects of school life.

Millie Kings - a sensible, responsible and wonderful girl.

Eadie Mae Houghton-Court - always so polite and hard-working.

Eliza Kanka - possess a kind hearted nature and a big smile.

Stanley Thomas – a good positive attitude towards learning.

Reports

Final reminder to parents that, this year, we will try and save the environment and money by publishing reports on to Insight rather than printing out 600+ copies. If you have issues accessing Insight, please contact the ICT support team or email the office who will help.

If you do require a printed report then can you please inform the form teacher via the homework diary and this can be arranged. (Mr M Russell—Assistant Head Teacher)

Lacie Almquest - for reading so well at Mass.

Adaa Ahmed - excellent work in RE and French.

Tom Price – for excellent behaviour and singing during Mass.

Aamina Zahid – an excellent member of 5KB.

Oliver Merry - trying really hard with organisation and always being enthusiastic in class.

This week saw the start of the District Cricket semi-finals for our Key Stage 3 teams. Unfortunately, our Year 8's lost out to a very strong Birchensale side who managed to hit our target of 54 runs inside 9 overs. A huge well done to Awais Mohammed, Ali Mahmood, Isaam Shahid, Evon Jose, Alfie Wheeler, Mahad Safdar and Waqar Iqbal. A special mention to Kyle Simmons and Daniel Wood who managed to make a partnership of 48 runs together! Good luck to the Year 7 Cricket team who will be in action next Wednesday at home. (Mr J Stenning)
