Seeking to Know, Grow In, and Show the Ways of Jesus
Church News
We are pleased to announce that an Interim Pastor has been recommended by the Interim Pastor Committee and
approved by the church council. Pastor Donna Kendrick-Philips will begin serving St. Paul’s UCC on
September 1, 2014 on a part-time basis; her first Sunday service with us will be September 7, 2014 (Rally Day).
Pastor Donna will typically be at St. Paul’s on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, unless meetings or other
events require her schedule to be adjusted accordingly. Pastor Donna lives in the St. Louis area and enjoys
spending time with her grandchildren and the rest of her family. While she will be serving St. Paul’s on a part-
time basis, she realizes everything in life doesn’t always follow a schedule, and she will be able to be reached
by phone for emergencies at any time. Pastor Donna is contracted to serve St. Paul’s UCC through December
2014, with optional contract renewals of three-month intervals.
Pastor Donna attended Francis Howell High School, Truman University, achieved a BA degree in Psychology
from Webster University, and graduated from Eden Theological Seminary MDiv in 1988. She has a lot of
pastoral experience, having served churches as an installed pastor and as an intentional interim. She has served
in small and medium congregations as a solo pastor, and in large congregations as both an associate and as a
senior pastor. Pastor Donna is a trained interim, and she has served churches in very similar situations as St.
Paul’s UCC.
With the experience and training Pastor Donna possesses, she will be an asset to St. Paul’s UCC during this
transition. Please join us in greeting Pastor Donna Kendrick-Philips with a warm welcome as she joins the St.
Paul’s UCC church family.
May God’s greatest blessings be yours,
St. Paul’s UCC Church Council

Christian Education — Sept. 7th — Rally Day
Sunday School Classes resume! During the service of worship, our new
Interim Pastor, Rev. Donna Kendrick-Phillips, will commission our Sunday
School teachers, present Bibles to our 3rd grade students, and along with the
congregation, pray for a successful Sunday School year.
Children will be dismissed to their Sunday School teachers prior to the last
hymn. Teachers will escort children to their classes. Preschool children
will meet in room #103 with Katie Thornton. K – 2nd graders will
meet in room #105D with Megan Zeh. Grades 3 – 5 will meet in
room #105A with Cathie Schoppenhorst. Grades 6 - 8 will meet in
room #105B with Susie Thierbach. High School students will meet in room #102 with Jodi Lange.
Parents, other church members, and friends can enjoy refreshments in the Fellowship Hall until
classes end; students will have a snack in class.
At approximately 11:15am the children will be escorted to the Fellowship Hall to meet with
parents. The children will have balloons to launch from the church lawn. We ask that parents, church
members, and guests accompany us outside for the balloon launch.
We will then return to the Fellowship Hall for a Rally Day Celebration. Hamburgers, hotdogs, and
chips will be served. This will be an excellent opportunity to meet and visit with Pastor Donna.
NOTE: No Sunday School classes on 9/21/14 due to the Chicken Dinner. Spread the word!
The Women’s Guild would like to thank those who brought in items to support their August mission—Turning Point, a shelter for victims of domestic violence.
The missions committee is looking
for someone to lead the
Helping Hands ministry.
Contact Amy Lange with
