NORTH HAMPTON CONCERTSNORTH HAMPTON | Enjoy a summer of
music and exciting children’s programs withNorth Hampton’s 2006 Summer Concert Series,held each week at the town bandstand, locatedon Atlantic Avenue (Route 111) in North Hamp-ton. All concerts will be held on Wednesdaysfrom 6-8 p.m., unless otherwise noted.
In the event of rain, concerts will be held atthe North Hampton School on Atlantic Avenue(east of Route 1); the children’s programs will beheld at the church across from the bandstand.Concert-goers may bring a picnic, or they maypurchase barbecue items from American LegionPost #35 or hot dogs, beans, chips, and bever-ages from the Masonic Lodge. The NorthHampton Woman’s Club will have cookies andbrownies for sale, and Boy Scout Troop 162 willbe selling popcorn. Be sure to bring chairs orblankets to sit upon.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR SEAFOOD FESTIVALHAMPTON BEACH | Ever wonder what it takes to make
one of the “Top 100 Events in North America” work? Theanswer? Volunteers.
Hundreds of volunteers are needed to fully staff the 17thannual Seafood Festival, taking place this year the weekend ofSeptember 8-10.
Though many Hampton area residents are already lining upto get their assignments for this year’s three-day extravagan-za, many, many more are needed.
It’s easy to become a volunteer, and the Festival is a fun placeto meet new people, re-acquaint with old friends and takepride in showing off Hampton Beach. Some of the positionsavailable include traffic control, beer tent, Coca-Cola sales, andmany more.

GIVE BLOOD, SAVE A LIFENORTH HAMPTON | An American Red Cross blood drive
will be held on Saturday, August 12 at Shaw’s supermarket,located on Route 1 in North Hampton. Donor hours are from9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Because the need for blood never takes a vaca-tion, donors are needed throughout the summer months toavoid a critical blood shortage. The Seacoast community isurged to make this important commitment a part of their sum-mer plans. “If you’ve never been asked to help save a life,please consider yourself asked and give blood,” states TommyBurke, blood services representative for the Red Cross. “Just alittle of your time can make a world of difference for a patientin need.” A form of positive identification, such as a donorcard or driver’s license, is now required to give blood. TURKEY DINNER AT THE GRANGEEXETER | Gilman Grange #1 will sponsor a summer turkey

HAMPTON | The LaneMemorial Library in Hamp-ton has begun seeking a qual-ified individual to serve asHead of Children’s Services,following the news that cur-rent Children’s LibrarianMarybeth Varney submittedher resignation early lastweek.
“We are losing our gem ofa librarian to the pineywoods of Maine,” was howLibrary Director CatherineRedden announced that Var-ney’s position was immedi-ately available. Redden wasunavailable for comment atpresstime.
Varney, who is originallyfrom Maine and was thelibrarian at Opal Myrick Ele-mentary School in EastMillinocket was hired in Feb-ruary of this year after herpredecessor, Cynthia Stosse,left to become director at thetown library in Pembroke.Varney’s official start datewas March 27.
The position brings with it
an extensive list of adminis-trative, collection develop-ment and public relationsduties, and by all accountsVarney rose to the challengeas the “new kid on theblock.”
Described as “wonderful”by Library Assistant, JoanneMulready, Varney “broughtgood ideas with her, she hasgot a lot of get-up-and-go,and she’s wonderful with thekids.” Mulready is among themany on staff who say theyare sad to see Varney go.
The position is a full timeone (37.5 hours), andincludes benefits. A Mastersin Library Science or equiva-lent degree with three yearsexperience working withchildren is required. Thelibrary is now acceptingrésumés from those interest-ed in applying; copies of thejob description are availableat the library or online atwww.hampton. lib.nh.us.

According to Libbey, “Wefeel terrible. Certainly all of
our workers and helperswere ready to bake and havea great sale. We’re asbummed out as they are.”
Libbey suggested thatthe public check out thelibrary’s Web site keep up-to-date on the matter and forrescheduling information.
The annual sale is “prob-ably our major fundraiser,”Libbey said. “We do it everysummer. People always lookforward to this sale becausethe prices are so good.”
