A Day of Cheer and Good Ice Cream

On Christmas Day, my sister and I volunteered to serve free ice cream to the community of Stevens Point from Carl D’s Soft Serve. Although the ice cream was free, donations were accepted for the Salvation Army. For two hours, my sister and I along with the owner and his wife served cone after cone to the busy line outside. Even News Channel 7 had arrived to broadcast the event! (On a side note, my first cone was hideous. But I can now say that I am an ice cream cone expert). Carl D’s Soft Serve had raised a grand total of $1,200 for the Salvation Army that day. For just two hours of my time, I was able to assist in this wonderful event, enjoy some delicious ice cream, and then celebrate the rest of Christmas Day with my lovely family.

The Linus ProjectBy: Calla Buttke

We had a great time making blankets for Project Linus after two club meetings in December and January! Project Linus is a non-profit organization that provides homemade blankets to children in need. Since it was founded in 1995, Project Linus has provided more than 5 million blankets, and Circle K UW-Madison has just contributed 10 more! Our blankets will most likely be distributed to children at one of the area hospitals. In addition to working on this project, it was fun to work on creating cute, cuddly blankets with fellow Circle K’ers and socialize with one another while doing a service project.

Spring Fling!

Get ready to make a splash at our upcoming under-the-sea-themed district event, Spring Fling, held on April 22nd-24th! Come visit Camp Wawbeek in the Wisconsin Dells and get “Hooked on Service” for a weekend of service and fun with your fellow WUM Circle K’ers!

Camp Wawbeek is an organization that gives the full summer camp experience to physically and cognitively disabled children. Over the weekend, you’ll have the opportunity to do various service projects to help them open up the camp to get ready for their summer campers! In addition, you'll be participating in camp fundraisers, learning from informative workshops, and getting to know fellow Circle K’ers through social activities! Several things (of many!) to look forward to: enjoying the outdoors, going on the traditional late-night Denny’s run, finding our district’s secret talents at Saturday night’s Talent Show, auctioning off club mascots, digging in at the Nacho/Taco Bar for Saturday’s dinner, and much more! You won’t want to miss out!

If you have a special talent you’d like to share at Spring Fling, consider signing up for Saturday’s Talent Show! Contact Kelsey Murzyn ([email protected]) for details!
