Service Opportunities for Lent
TODAY we will be packing non perishable lunches for the homeless
between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in the Reed Room. There is a
designated bin in the Reed Room to place items such as Vienna
sausage, Beanie Weenies, pull tab cans of tuna or sardines, peanut
buer crackers, fruit cups, granola bars, cookies and box fruit drinks
or boles of water.
During March, you are invited to bring socks (new, sll packaged)
and toilet paper (in original packaging) donaons to Aldersgate and
leave them in the marked bins in the Reed Room. These items will
be delivered to The Haven in Charloesville to help the homeless. If
you wish, you may let us know when you are out shopping by
posng photos on Twier, Facebook, or Instagram.
During the month of March, we also encourage you to sign-up to
prepare a meal at the Ronald McDonald House this spring with your
family or small group, gather a small group together to visit a local
nursing home to pray for their residents and sing their favorite
hymns with them, or sign-up to help host an upcoming dinner for
area refugees.
There will be wish lists in the Reed Room for the Ronald McDonald
House and Greer Elementary School. Bring these items in and we
will see they are delivered. Please mark items RMH or Greer.

including Easter Egg Hunt, at 10am in the Reed Room.
Bible Study Opportunity
The Lunch Bunch Bible study group meets on Wednesdays from noon ‘til
1:00 pm in Room 208 at the church. We have begun a new study of I
and II Corinthians, Galatians, and Ephesians. We are a group with a lot
of discussion, and we welcome you to join us. If you have questions,

Children’s Easter Celebration
The Children’s Ministry Team is collecting candy and small items
(stickers, toys, etc.) to fill plastic eggs for the annual Easter Egg Hunt on
Easter Sunday, March 27. Please do not bring plastic eggs as we have
plenty! Donations may be left at Rachel Miller’s office.
Seeking TV Donations
The Communications Team is planning to add Welcome Centers at the
two main door entrances of the church and a Connection Center in the
Reed Room to help members and guests stay informed with the latest
announcements and upcoming events. The Communications Team
would like to ask for your help in completing this project by donating
used or new TV’s to the church. The team is looking for the following:
Two 40-50 inch flat screen TV’s
One 50+ inch flat screen TV
All the TV’s must be 1080p resolution
2 or more HDMI ports
1 or more USB ports

Easter Lilies and Mission Kits
On Easter Sunday, March 27th
, we will have Easter lilies in the Sanctuary.
If you would like to purchase a lily or a Mission Kit in honor or memory
of a loved one, please see an usher for an order form. Make your checks
payable to “AUMC” with “Easter Lily/Mission Kit” in the memo. The cost
is $12 each and the deadline for ordering is next Sunday, March 20th
.
St. Patrick’s Day Corned Beef and Cabbage Supper
The annual St. Patricks’ Day Corned Beef and Cabbage supper will be
held on Saturday, March 19th
in the Fellowship Hall. We’ll be serving
“the best corned beef in town” at $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (over
60), and $5 for kids under 12. We’ll open the doors at 5:30 pm and
serve until 7:30 pm when we’ll have a free Irish song concert by the local
Sweet Adelines Skyline Harmony Chorus in the sanctuary upstairs. Of
course, we’ll occasionally have a little sing-along in the dining area to set
the mood. Just delay your March 17th
celebration until March 19th
.Tickets will be on sale in the Reed Room TODAY following each worship
service. If you’d like to sell tickets, we’ll give you a handful to sell to
your friends and contacts. For more information, contact Merrill Bishop

Prayer Covenant Congregation Gathering
On Palm Sunday, March 20th
at 2:30 pm, Bishop Young Jin Cho will be on
the Charlottesville District at Aldersgate UMC. All prayer covenantchurches and anyone interested in prayer are invited to this gathering.
Bishop Cho will offer some encouraging words, as well as hear how
prayer has changed or transformed us. The Aldersgate Praise Band and
the Aldersgate Ringers handbell choir will be providing some music. The
Bishop would also like to hear about any useful resources you have used
on the subject of prayer. We will close praying together for a renewal
and revival of our churches! Invite a friend! Everyone, laity and clergy,
is invited to this gathering with Bishop Cho.

Mystery Book Club
In the Winter 2016 edition of Aldersgate Alive, a Mystery Book Club was
suggested. We have someone who would agree to assist in getting one
started if someone would agree to be in charge. Interested? Please

Name Tags
Name tags are available for those who signed up. You can find them in
file on the table in the Narthex and you will also find a box of magnets if
you choose to use those in place of the provided pin. If you have not
signed up for a name tag and would like one, please fill out the form on
the table next to the name tags.
Moms Night Out
Next Moms Night Out - Tuesday, March 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Hollymead
Panera. Plan to grab a snack or dinner and join us for a chance to get
to know some other Aldersgate Moms. We will talk about locaons
for our next Night Out and also discuss if we want to have a devoon
or Bible Study component to our gatherings…so please come with
ideas! We look forward to seeing everyone. If you need to reach us,

Graduates
Do you know a special high school, college, military or advanced degree
student who will be graduating this spring? If so, please send his/her
name, school, and degree earned to Rachel ([email protected])
no later than Monday, May 29th. We will recognize graduates in the
church bulletin in June.
Mental Health First Aid Workshop
This Tuesday, March 15 from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Charlottesville Church
of the Brethren will be hosing a Mental Health First Aid course. Mental
Health First Aid teaches a 5-step action plan to offer initial help to
people with the signs and symptoms of a mental illness or in a crisis, and
connect them with the appropriate professional, peer, social, or self help
care. Anyone can take the 8-hour Mental Health First Aid course — first
responders, students, teachers, leaders of faith communities, humanresources professionals, and caring citizens. Registration, books, and
lunch are free, but pre-registration is required. For more information,

Aldersgate Travel Opportunities
There have been inquiries regarding travel opportunities through
Aldersgate. If enough people are interested, we could possibly do sometravel trips. To mention a few interesting day trips — Tea and Tour of
the National Cathedral, the Bunker Tour at the Greenbrier. One
overnight trip everyone should see is a Biblical play at the Sight and
Sound Theatre in Lancaster County, PA, where the Bible comes to life.
And, everyone likes historical trips. There are many places to see within
and out of our state. Contact Scott Davis ([email protected]) or
Mike Thornton ([email protected]) if you would be
interested in traveling.
Easter Saturday Hike
On Saturday, March 26, we will meet in the AUMC parking lot at 9 am
for a hike from Big Meadows, Amphitheatre parking lot to Hawksbill
Mountain and back (approximately 8 miles). This is an all day hike so we
will be returning between 5 and 6 pm. Be sure to bring a day pack with
lunch, snacks, and at least 1-2 liters of water, rain gear, good hiking
shoes, and money for entrance fee to the park. For more information,
