Lower LA River Movie Night: The Lower LA River Revitalization Plan aims to connect residents to the river that flows through their communities and will identify opportunities and projects to restore, enhance, and revitalize the LA River infrastructure along the 19-mile Lower LA River from 26th Street in Vernon to the LA River outlet in Long Beach. On July 15, 2017, the Working Group and Assembly Speaker Rendon, in coordination with the County of Los Angeles and the Rivers and Mountains Conservancy, held an outdoor Summer Movie Night inside the Los Angeles River in the City of South Gate. The event featured family fun activities, food trucks, informational booths about the Los Angeles River, and a screening of Moana. With more than 300 people in attendance, the event had a fantastic showing from local residents. This movie night is a good example of one of the main goals of the Plan—to activate places along and in the River and engage the surrounding communities, while providing a safe, easily accessible space that will serve the communities through which it runs. Join us at upcoming events for fun and educational activities along the Lower LA River and to make your voice and needs heard. Please fill out our online community mapping tool. This exercise will help us to create a plan for the area that best fits your needs and requests. This questionnaire also allows you to comment on your preferences for specific locations along the river. LOWER LA RIVER REVITALIZATION PLAN

Project Developments: The Lower LA River Revitalization Plan is a community-based plan designed to help foster stable communities and ensure that the revitalization of the Lower LA River brings health, economic, and environmental benefits to all residents.

To date the project has solicited input from the communities through outreach events, allowing more than 600 people to provide input. Residents have pointed out multiple concerns regarding landscaping, shade, river access, security, safety, and connectivity. In addition, residents also suggested new opportunities along the Lower LA River such as replacing vacant manufacturing plants with green space, connecting the LA River Trail to historically significant areas, and connecting the eastern and western basins on the Dominguez Gap Wetlands.

The Working Group is using community input to enhance existing opportunities and develop new opportunities for the 19-mile corridor. The Plan will aim to manage flood risk, improve water quality and supply, enhance connectivity, create safe public spaces, reduce local gentrification-induced displacement, and support and develop local businesses and workforce. The draft Plan will be developed based on community input in summer/early fall, and concepts for key projects, programs, and policies will be available for public review in fall/early winter.

We’re in Your Neighborhood!Check out our booths at your local community events such as fairs, swap meets, and farmer markets.

Engagement booths will begin late August and will run through September.
