Jean Tuomey from Castlebar and her writing friends from Sligo, Sheila Ni Chuirc, Maura Gilligan, Liam Maloney, Ann Mc Kirdy, Eamon O Cleirigh, Andrew O’ Reilly, Emma Purcell, Stephanie Ripon and Nora Ryan will read from the collection. The book includes photos, drawings and paint-ings chosen or produced by the writers to accompany their pieces. Mayo musicians, Louise Conroy, David Tuomey, Teresa Burke and Orla Mannion will sing and play to make the place swing.

All profits from the book go to the North West Hospice Fund.

Thursday 18th September @ 8.00pmNiall, Cillian & Caoimhín Vallely with Ross MartinNiall, Cillian and Caoimhín Vallely are members of a Traditional music dynasty from Armagh. They learnt their music at the Ar-magh Pipers Club from their parents Brian and Eithne, and have gone on to forge professional music careers that have brought them all over the world. Driving forces behind the groups Lú-nasa, Buille, Nomos, and North Cregg, individually they have performed and recorded with artists of the calibre of Béla Fleck, Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin, Tim O’Brien, Riverdance, Mary Chapin-Carpenter, Natalie Merchant, Paddy Keenan, Martin Hayes, and Dónal Lunny. Cillian also features on the most recent Bruce Springsteen album High Hopes. They will be touring together for the first time this September with legendary Scottish guitarist Ross Martin. Thursday 25th September @ 8.00pmHalf Solid Productions - The Pull The Pull is the first comedy show from Half Solid Productions, a company established by Mayo writers and actors Liam Horan and John Corless. The Pull is a lively comedy based on an “unreal real event that may or not have taken place in rural Ireland.” The play is set in the fictional town of Ballybore, where, bizarrely, the local GAA club claims to pre-date the foundation of the GAA by some 130 years. Ballybore GAA club embarks on a fundraising truck pull around the town in an attempt to get themselves out of debt and to undo the bad feeling towards the club in the commu-nity, offering a humorous look at the way community works in Ireland along the way. Liam is a former Gaelic games corre-spondent of the Irish Independent, and creator of the popular Championship Man series on RTE Radio One. John is a well-known poet who has performed a number of readings in this region. Suitable for all ages, The Pull promises a great night of fun that keeps it country.

Tuesday 30th September @ 8.00pmLiving in a Coded LandIreland 2013 80mins Language: EnglishAs we grapple with the post Celtic Tiger, post bail-out landscape, along comes fi lm-maker Pat Collins with a documentary which not only offers us a context - historical, social and philosophical - but also prompts us to think. This fi lmic essay is centred in the Midlands, in Co. Westmeath, Ireland’s historical ‘umbilicus’, and from here the legacy of colonialism, patronage and privilege are explored, as well as our relationship with the land and the past. The real strength of this documentary is Collins’ judicious use of archive material, which he intercuts with present-day foot-age and commentators, geographers and historians. The effect is both lyrical and remarkable. We are also given a fascinating insight into how the so-called ‘middle man’ rose to a position of power in Ireland, from the cattle ranchers of the 1600s to the new middle men of the fi nancial sector. Thursday 13th November @ 8.00pmCodaCoda is a Mayo-based group of seven singers and musi-cians who developed their own richly-harmonised ap-proach to vocal performance, uniquely complemented by their multi-part vocal harmony experience gained from classical choral music. As found on debut CD mouthmusic, Coda offers 7-part harmonies in an eclectic

mix of musical styles including Celtic and North American music, traditional and contemporary folk songs, original compositions and popular songs from sources as diverse as Clannad, Tom Waits, Van Morrison and The Beatles. The group’s repertoire comprises both a capella arrangements and songs with instru-mental accompaniment as well as traditional Irish music. Coda has performed at the Westport Music Festival and on RTÉ. Coda comprises Declan Askin, Alan Drumm, Conall Ó Domhnaill, Brian Lennon, Mike Cannon, Steve Bryant and Leonard Kelly.

Tuesday 18th - Thursday 20th November New Moon Theatre Project - Fruit FullThe Linenhall is delighted to welcome St Bríd’s Special School and St Anthony’s School Castlebar to Fruit Full, a multi-sensory theatre production in which performers and audience interact to create, celebrate and experience the many sounds sights and textures of the passing seasons. Designed for small audiences of people with intellectual disabilities and complex needs, Fruit Full explores the four seasons through the human senses involving the audience in various ways including touching soil and plants and experiencing the wind in their faces. Friday 29th August - Saturday 11th OctoberAmanda Jane Graham - Warriors One in ThreeIt has been substantially documented that cancer will touch one in three of us. Warriors One in Three is a mixed media exhibi-tion that acknowledges the stoic bravery, dignity and resilience of people that have faced serious illness. “Through this exhibition the victim becomes the warrior by addressing perceptions of confl icting cultural projections played out through society. My practice is a trajectory of self-refl ection, personal narrative, and memoirs where the viewer completes the experience. Hand-made process is essential to the practice. The traditional medi-ums of drawing, fi ne print, collage, embroidery and wool crafts are key to generating the intricate visual representation that penetrates the memory of the observer creating unconscious and organic emotional reactions. The exhibition will have the power touch, engage and connect with the collective experi-ence of the audience because it will be tender, uplifting and compelling.” Amanda completed an MA Fine Art at National College of Art and Design, Dublin in 2011.Adm. Friday 17th October - Saturday 15th NovemberPictiúrA highly engaging exhibition demonstrating the range, scope and skill of Ireland’s top children’s book illustrators. Pictiúr was curated by Niamh Sharkey during her time as Laureate na nÓg and features the work of 21 illustrators including PJ Lynch, Marie-Louise Fitzpatrick, Chris Haughton, Kevin Waldron, Oliver Jeffers, Chris Judge, Steve Simpson, Andrew Whitson, Mary Murphy, Michael Emberley and Olivia Golden. The exhibition includes illustrations from books written in English and Irish.As a way of highlighting Ireland during its EU Presidency in 2013, Children’s Books Ireland, under the auspices of Laureate na nÓg, toured Pictiúr to international audiences in Austria, Italy and Belgium. Friday 21st November - Saturday 17th JanuaryPamela de Brí - Midland 2/Lár Tíre 2Midland 2/ Lár Tíre 2 is a multimedia installation of photographs, notebooks, maps, prints, audio clips and video focusing on the North West section of de Brí’s Midland Project. Taking inspiration from the culture and heritage of the railways and their location, and focusing on the former Midland Great Western Railway which traversed Ireland from East to West, the Midland Project interweaves history, folklore, hearsay, stories, memory, beliefs, na-ture and natural history, in an attempt to record the patina and texture of place. The work has been on-going from 2011 to the present. Pamela explains: “I am interested in the convergence of art and social documentary, how objects and images from the past embody cultural memory and characterize the future. My art presents a perspective on temporality and on an ever-evolving world, critiquing values and trends that result from social change.”Pamela has exhibited widely in Ireland with solo exhibitions in Gal-way, Kildare, Westmeath and Dublin, and group shows in Ireland, Wales, England and Australia.Adm. Wed 26th November - Wed 10th December At Home in the UniverseLuisne Art Project and Connaught Creative Resource Centre (CCRC) artists have come together to create this exhibition. The collaboration has grown out of a theme that developed and gathered momentum in the course of the groups’ work during 2014 - the theme of ‘home, everyday objects, domestic ob-jects and farm animals at home’. The exhibition examines and explores the possibilities of this home territory further with exciting results, and features the work of artists from Luisne Art Project, Ballinrobe and artists from CCRC and VTC Castlebar, along with contributions from other local arts disability groups.Luisne Art Project is supported by Mayo County Council Arts Offi ce and Western Care with administrative support from TACU Family Resource Centre, Ballinrobe. Saturday 13th December - Saturday 31st JanuaryKawaii ComicsKawaii Comics is a group of ten young comics creators in Castlebar. Throughout autumn they are working with artist Maeve Clancy to explore graphic reportage and the use of comic form as a mode of expression in non-fi ction contexts. This exhibition of large-scale comic strips is the outcome of three months of work wherein the group explored the work of a selection of organisa-tions, groups and activities available to young people in Mayo, and reported on it in comic format. Kawaii Comics are Patrick Corless, Lee Davitt, Melissa Duffy, Anna Dreimane, Jane Faull, Jason Gallagher, Chloe Hawe, Emily Nolan, Amy Ruane, and Rebekah Ryan. Maeve Clancy is an illustrator, animator, and paper artist. She has had a number of solo and group exhibitions, and her pop-up books feature on the music videos of Lisa Hannigan (Lille and I Don’t Know) and a 2013 Sam-sung advertisement. She has facilitated a number of workshops at the Linenhall Arts Centre, and is working on a graphic novel. Pop-Up Book Making for AdultsWorkshop series with Maeve ClancySix Fridays commencing 19th September, 11.00am-12.30pmExplore Pop-Up art in this six week long workshop series with paper artist extraordinaire, Maeve Clancy. During the workshop, participants will have a chance to see a variety of pop-up books, and go on to make their own pop-up book creations. Seamus Hughes will be joining us at the Linenhall for eight sessions this autumn to deliver a workshop series which will focus on the Der-rada Set and the Claddagh Set. Exploring the Techniques of the Great Masters, for AdultsWorkshop series with Mary NoonanSix Fridays commencing 31st October, 10.30am-1.00pm This series of combined lectures and practical workshops will ex-plore the work of six renowned visual artists. The focus will be on painting and each week participants will investigate the work and techniques of one artist, as well as creating their own work in response. The workshops are open to both beginners and more advanced painters. Artists featured will be Claude Monet, Frida Kahlo, Pablo Picasso, Leonardo da Vinci, Johannes Vermeer and Henri Matisse, and the aspects covered will include colour theory, surrealism, obser-vational drawing, the use of blending, shading and shadow, por-traiture, cubism and abstraction, among others. Each participant will work on a new painting each week. The aim is not to have a fi nished piece at the end of each session, but rather to have gained a much better understanding of the processes these artists employed, and to have explored their work in a practical sense. These workshops will be investigative and exploratory and will be run in an informal and relaxed manner.Mary Noonan holds an MA in Fine Art (Painting) from NCAD, has presented numerous solo exhibitions both in Ireland and abroad. Her work is in the collections of the OPW, Wesley College, Irish Life and Meath Co. Council. Mary has delivered several success-ful workshops and workshop series here at the Linenhall.Exploring The Techniques Of The Great Masters takes place over six Friday mornings commencing October 31st (continuing 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th Nov; 5th Dec) from 10.30am-1.00pm each day.
