This volume is one of three publications entitled ‘ESF 3.234 LEAP Project Network Directories’ which consist of various organisations’ details that render services within the social field in Malta and Gozo. The LEAP team augurs that you and your entity will find the contents useful in creating further links with these organisations.

We are aware that organisations regularly evolve and new ones are created; efforts were made to ensure that the details provided at the time of publication were precise. Conscious of this fact, we still believe that these directories will be serving their purpose. Ample space has been designated for insertion of contacts which have not been included. This is due to the fact that these publications are intended to be used on a regular basis and serve as a networking tool, with sticky notes, highlighted sections and your own notes, wear and tear permitting.

The main purpose of the LEAP project was to facilitate networking. It now depends on you and your organisation to fulfil this mission. It was a pleasure being of service and travelling the LEAP project’s path with other organisations that have taken up the challenge and implemented the set targets relating to networking. Tennis Club Kordin has four courts of international standard, bar and showers. It offers to it`s members the facility of a computerized court booking system through its website. It organized throughout the year a number of local tournaments for its members and three international tournaments and also coaching clinics for both adults and children.

Fort Pembroke

It was built in 1903 as part of the Old Guard Room. It is the highest point of Pembroke and serves as a landmark and meeting place.

Fort Pembroke was built after in December 1879 to defend the Grand Harbour and the Victoria Lines. Today, Fort Pembroke is used for educational purposes, housing the Verdala International School.

Harq Hamiem Cave

Pembroke Battery was built between 1909 and 1912, a short distance away from Fort Pembroke. The battery was armed with two 9.2 inch BL MK X guns abreast of each other, each having a 180 degree arc of fire. In the mid 1980’s part of this battery was destroyed to make way for housing development. Restorations are underway to transform the Battery into a Museum.

These ranges are situated next to the coast, in an area that has superb scenic and ecological value. These ranges are still being used by the Armed Forces of Malta for training purposes.

This valley takes you from the entry to Pembroke all the way down to St. George’s Bay. About 400 plant species grow along this valley, making it a significant ecological site.

This cave has a water cavern that is considered to be the most impressive in the region. The deep lake has a surface area of 300m2 and the underwater formation has two large chambers connected by a passage. The lower chamber is fully submerged. This cave is not very famous since access is blocked by a private enterprise. The site is however declared an Area of Ecological and Scientific Importance.

This tower looking over Bahar ic-Caghaq was built in 1658 by Grandmaster De Redin. In the 19th it was modified by the British Empire to house a 64-pdr RML Gun to defend the neighbouring coast and the Victoria Lines.

The Local Council of Rabat, Malta, was established by an act of parliament fifteen years ago with the original mission to maintain cleanliness in the localities and the maintenance and up-keep of public property. Over time its scope has broadened in order to include the resurfacing of rural roads such as Landrijiet and Kuncizzjoni and also worked on the embellishment of the village core. This centre was established to organise pastoral activities among people residing in a recently developed area.

The church was built in 1608 on the site of an earlier church.

The church is situated in the locality where once was the village of Hal Kbir.

The church was built in the 15th century. Of the village of Hal Xluq nothing remains except a palace now used as a farmhouse.

Beating Hearts Malta is the first Maltese Association for adults and children with Congenital Heart Defects (CHD). The Grandmaster’s Palace

Dominating Palace Square, the Grand Master’s Palace has always been the house of government in Malta, first by the knights, then the British and now hosts the President’s office. When parliament is not in session you can visit the palace for free, and there is an awful lot to see in here. In the interior of the palace is the famous Council Chamber, adorned with valuable Gobelins tapestries woven in France for Grand Master Ramón Perellos y Roccaf. The other rooms and passages of the palace are splendidly furnished with art objects, old coat of arms and armour. Particularly notable are the former Hall of the Supreme Council of the Knights, which hosts fine frescoes and the Hall of the Ambassadors, where portraits of Grand Masters and European rulers hang. On the basement floor is the Armoury, one of the largest collections of its kind in the world, though reduced to a fraction of its former size by the depredations of the French. Among its principal treasures are a suit of armour made in Milan for the Grand Master, Adrien de Wignacourt (1690-97) and a full-length panoply made for Grand Master Martin Garzes by Sigismund Wold of Landshut

Valletta, along with all the localities of Malta and Gozo, was awarded the prestigious title of European Capital of Culture 2018 on 13th October 2012. The nomination presented by the Valletta Local Council, on behalf of all the localities of Malta and Gozo, was confirmed by an evaluation panel today, during a meeting in Valletta, where our country was awarded the title of European Capital of Culture 2018. This announcement was made during a press conference by Manfred Gaulhofer, Chairperson of the Evaluation Board. Mr. Gaulhofer said the board was convinced there was the necessary will, motivation and ambition in order to award the title to Valletta.

This is a non-profit organization that leads the way in providing therapeutic, education and leisure services to persons with disabilities in Malta and Gozo. Through close relations with parents, government and the business community we aim to reach out and assist those who are excluded, to give them choice and opportunity and to emphasize their human rights and equal access to independence, education, employment, leisure and an inclusive community.

Paulo Freire Institute was set up by the Maltese Jesuit to promote literacy and community development. These objectives are still our main challenge so we can empower persons by helping for there rights, and promote justice. All of these related to illiteracy, and most of the problems have ripple effects. Our institute works on three interrelated approach: The Community

This is a non-profit and a non-governmental organisation, where with the help of its qualified trainers and youth workers, ensures that its priorities of inspiring, involving, motivating and empowering young people are reached. We are qualified youth workers and trainers who have worked in the field for over 10 years.

LAND was established in 2005, mainly by persons with physical disabilities. Objectives are to promote independence, education and most of all inclusion in all spheres of life. In order to do so, outdoor activities are held whenever concerts are held, air shows, etc. This also encourages to help create friendships since membership is open to persons with physical and non-physical disabled persons who are 18 years and over.

MUYA works in the field of developing culture, education, science and communication and spreading the ideas of UNESCO amongst youth and grown up population in Malta and internationally through organizations of programs and projects including training courses, seminars & exchanges on an national and international level through the publishing of diverse literature.
