2020

Dear Parents and Friends,

I hope you are all continuing to be well and managing to stay safe and physically distant but

socially connected!

I wish to thank families for their amazing efforts in keeping up with your child/ren’s school

work. Please just try your best and we understand that not all work will be completed.

I enjoyed seeing the work of a number of children who completed Anzac Day pieces. You will

see some of the Artwork that was completed over the past week in today’s newsletter.

Each week I shall showcase pieces of student work that has been done over the previous week

from home. Keep an eye out for this section!

REMOTE LEARNING

This week we have stepped into the WebEx online platform to conduct the roll and to facilitate our Specialist classes.

Art, Music and PE have all run online this week and next week you will be online with your classroom teachers twice

across the week. Check your timetable so you know when you are expected online. A list of WebEx addresses for

teachers are located in this newsletter to help you successfully get online. Remember, to download the WebEx app

so that you can access the classrooms.

DEVICES and INTERNET DONGLES

Last Friday our school loaned out 82 laptops or iPads to families in need of a mobile device. We are still awaiting

internet USBs. Our school is on a waiting list and I can assure you we are doing everything in our power to get ac-

cess to the internet for you. DET indicated that they had 1000 internet USBs – and they are working through a priori-

ty list starting with students at the VCE level. There are no internet dongles/USBs currently in Bendigo for sale. I have

spoken with Maree Edwards MP and she is also doing what she can to further our case for internet access. So please

be patient – we can’t give what we don’t have! I have provided in this newsletter the information about Telstra, Op-

tus and Vodafone deals that are currently happening. So please read carefully. As soon as we receive more infor-

mation you will be the first to know!

PLEASE PICK UP and RETURN HOME LEARNING PACKS in the Gym.

Each Friday we shall be asking families to collect their weekly Home Learning package from school. From now on

due to the imminent inclement weather the Home Learning packs will be collected from the Gym. You will be asked

to enter our school site at the pedestrian gate along Freeman Drive.

Home Learning packs will be available for collection from 2pm – 4pm each Friday.

Due to DET & health requirements, we will be expecting families to adhere to the requests of staff to attend to hy-

giene practices on site and keep to the social distancing measures. Put simply - “Use the sanitiser like we do at the

supermarket!”

We ask that students return their current workbook that has the completed work tasks in it on this same day. Please

return it even if there maybe something undone. Our teachers will provide feedback to your child around the work

that has been completed.

Let’s grow in our garden @ home

Your garden, no matter its size, is an outdoor classroom waiting to be explored…

Let's make a Sensory Garden using plants and items that we can smell, taste, feel, see or hear. Eg Mint, garlic, parsley, lavender, corn, wind chime.

Let's get crafty Make something functional. Using old boots for pots, Painted Rocks, Odd sticks for plant labels. Build a scarecrow.

Let’s play with the birds Setup a birdbath, build a birdhouse, listen to the noises birds make, make a fruit and veggie kebab, make homemade seed sticks and hang them in a tree, use binoculars to see how many different birds are in your yard, try to find out what type of bird they are.

Let’s go on a bug hunt Find something that can crawl, fly, wrig-gle, jump, swim, buzz, hop. Be careful… some things bite too !

Let’s Build a Worm Farm Find your worms under something moist and dark (rock or timber) that’s how they like to live. Give your food scraps to your worms. Worm castings can be used in a garden bed.

Let’s make a Terrarium Using a plastic or glass jar half fill with soil and take a cutting from a plant, leave it in a warm place and water and watch it grow.

Let’s have play zones Make lots of different zoned areas in your yard to create a dinosaur park, a fairy park, an obstacle course, a veggie garden.

Lets grow food Find a sunny place to start your garden. Choose what food you ’d like to grow, Plant seeds in empty egg cartons or plastic containers. Plant seedlings into raised garden beds or deep pots. Plant flowers or herbs. Plant a fruit tree.

Let’s build a chook run Chooks need a dry enclosed raised area for roosting and a laying box for laying their eggs. They also require fresh water, food and garden scraps.
