The Prayer Shawl Ministry

will meet at 1pm on

January 16 at Lilly Enz’s home.

Shepherd's Center As the advocate for Senior Activities and benefits for our church, I want to tell you about the Shepherd's Center for our area located in Chester. I have been attending their meetings for the last year. They have many resources and services available for seniors in our county. It is a nonprofit interfaith organization that donates their time and resources to support senior activities that help with transportation, assist with completing tax forms, etc. If there are areas you may need assistance with, please call me for more information.

-Jerry Skaggs, Senior Advocate (804) 530-2116

You are invited to join us for fun, food and fellowship! The Keenagers meet at a different restaurant for lunch on the first Wednesday of each month. If you have a local restaurant that you would like to suggest for the Keenagers, contact Christine in the church office at 530-1391 or [email protected].

The shoeboxes packed by our church members are on a journey to countries all over the globe! Since the last newsletter, several more countries have been added to list of where our boxes are headed. The complete list is as follows: Burundi, Columbia, Malawi, Uruguay, Peru, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Ecuador, Swaziland, The Philippines, Grenada and a "Hard to Reach Area" (this means there is conflict or unrest in that country, so they do not release the location). God's love is being spread across the planet as we speak!

Did you know that many children who receive shoeboxes will have the opportunity to participate in a program called The Greatest Journey? This course teaches children how to know Christ, grow in their faith and share this Good News with others. At the completion of the course, each child is given a copy of the New Testament in his/her own language. The Greatest Journey costs $6 per child and donations are accepted year-round:

Start saving your change to help fund our 2018 shoeboxes, and Happy New Year!

United Methodist Women Our group celebrated the holiday season and finalized plans for 2018 with a Christmas celebration at the Forbes' home on December 27th. It was wonderful to have some of our young, prospective UMW members present, both Kathleen McNinch and Kailey Craddock were able to attend. We wish them much success as they return to their studies in January. It was cold outside but there was lots of food and fun activities inside. The UMW will not be meeting in January or February of 2018 and resume our monthly meetings on March 19th. You will be hearing more about our plans for the year and how you can participate. We wish you a very Happy New Year and look forward to working with you. If you are interested in joining the UMW, please give me a call or just show up at one of our meetings. Our meetings are always open to the women of the church and we would love to have you. Happy New Year and may God bless each of you,

Doris Morefield, President

United Methodist Men The Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Men met December 19th at the River's Bend Grill. We always meet the third Tuesday in each month and all men in the church are invited to attend.

We continue to work on a number of projects such as: replacing the wood fencing around the air conditioning units with vinyl fencing and we still need to paint the wall in the men's bathroom in the church. Several projects have been completed. The Boy Scouts have completed a couple of projects for us including removing the leaves from the parking lot. We look forward to working with them in 2018 on other projects. If you see something that needs to be done in and around the church, please don't hesitate to let a member of the UMM know.

Please mark your calendars for February 13th, 2018, 5-7PM, for the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. We encourage you to invite your friends to attend. It is a great opportunity to introduce new people to our church. Tickets will not be sold but contributions will be accepted.

We would also like to encourage you to let us know if there are needs by some of our church members who aren't feeling well or are not physically able to do manual labor around their homes. The UMM are willing to help with lawn mowing, trimming shrubs, etc.

Our next meeting will be January 16th, 6:30PM at the River's Bend Grill. All men of the church are invited to attend and participate in our projects. We enjoy a meal together, a devotional and lots of discussion on upcoming and new projects. Without a doubt, you will enjoy the fellowship. We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting.

Happy New Year, Mark Strickler, UMM President

Earn. Save. Give. Year End 2017 – Continued Stewardship Success

BHUMC,

Congratulations – we did it again! Because of your outstanding commitment and generous participation, we have successfully funded our entire budget, including apportionments for a fifth consecutive year. This is an amazing accomplishment and an inspirational testament to the outstanding goodness of giving in our Church. For every bit of contribution, big or small, time, talents, gifts or efforts, consistent or sporadic – BHUMC thanks you, the community thanks you, the UMC thanks you. You are making a difference for God’s kingdom by giving of what you have been blessed to receive.

Our work is not done, we carry on into a new year. We are in great need to continue this momentum and please remember to prayerfully consider your 2018 contributions and commitment. We have had such great participation, commitment and giving over the past years, we hope to keep that going. Please return your commitment cards for 2018 and help us continue the giving momentum into next year. We need you. Please answer the call to commitment again, or for the first time, we need you.

Your stewardship committee, Dave Steinbraker, Dorothy Mooney, Ann McNinch and Bill Talley V
