Cell Theory• All organisms are made of one or more cells• Cells are the basic units of structure and

function of all organisms• New cells are produced from existing cells

when they divide

Prokaryotic Cells (prokaryotes)

• Simplest type of cell – found in bacteria• Small size – between 1 – 10 microns• Does not have a nucleus• Does not have membrane bound organelles

Eukaryotic Cells (eukaryotes)

• Complex cell structure – found in protists, animals, plants and fungi

• Large size – between 10 – 100 microns• Has a nucleus• Has membrane bound organelles
