It’s Yorkshire in the summer of 1962. Every week six miners meet to make music. This unlikely band of brothers joke around, sing and tell tall tales … but bubbling just under the surface is heartache and betrayal.

Combining raucous wit and spellbinding close-harmony singing, Richard Cameron’s celebrated hit is as insightful and poignant as it is hilarious.

Prepare to have your heartstrings tugged!

If you liked The Full Monty, Brassed Off and The Pitmen Painters, you’ll love this.

Welcome to ourAutumn Season

Over the summer we’ve discovered a new star in Lauren Hood (Little Voice), teased you with Theatre Brothel (parts of which then transferred to the Almeida and Arcola theatres in London), parked 150 scooters in Theatre Square on Ferensway to celebrate our sell-out production of Quadrophenia, completed a critically acclaimed national tour of The Lady in the Van and collaborated in two of the hottest shows at the Edinburgh Fringe – including Scary Gorgeous by Rash Dash, co-commissioned by Hull Truck, which scooped a coveted Fringe First Award.

This Season opens with the heart-warming and heartbreaking drama, The Glee Club, set in the pit villages of 1960s Yorkshire. Originally directed by Hull Truck’s founder, Mike Bradwell, at the Bush Theatre in the late 90s, this brand new production makes its debut in Hull with a superb cast and with some of the best close harmony singing you’ll ever hear!

Director Natalie Abrahami returns to Hull after her acclaimed A Midsummer Night’s Dream (‘reminds you why you love theatre’, Yorkshire Post) with a special co-production between Hull Truck and The Gate Theatre. Together we have commissioned a stunning new translation of Lorca’s classic play Yerma.

November welcomes John Godber’s The Debt Collectors – a hilarious new comedy from one of the nation’s favourite playwrights.

You haven’t heard the half of it.

What about the elves? What are they doing making shoes? Why aren’t they making toys for Santa like normal elves?

And what happens when the shoemaker’s wife fancies owning her own personal magic elf…?

This Christmas, join Corky and Peeptoe, the weirdest elves nobody has ever met, and hear a side of the classic fairytale you have never heard before.

A cast of hundreds, played by two elves (and a variety of shoes), will take you on a journey you’re not going to forget in a hurry. The songs will be silly, the jokes will be… jokey – and it may even change the way you think about flip-flops.
