    GRAFFITI VANDALISM ARRESTSMAY 8, 2012 AND MAY 9, 2012

The Tucson Police Department has continued specific and targeted enforcement activities in an effort to crack down on

those committing crimes of graffiti vandalism throughout the City of Tucson. Recently, police personnel were able toarrest three different offenders for their involvement in various incidents of graffiti vandalism that were discovered onMay 8, 2012 and May 9, 2012.

In the first incident, officers from Operations Division South were conducting an unrelated investigation in the area of

South Park Avenue and Interstate 10 on the early morning of May 8, 2012. During the course of the investigation,

officers engaged in a foot pursuit with a male involved in the original incident. When he was apprehended, the officersnoted evidence of graffiti vandalism on his person, to include materials commonly used to commit acts of graffiti

vandalism as well as residual paint on his hands and clothing. The TAG Unit, a specialized unit specifically tasked

with investigating acts of graffiti vandalism, and the Operations Division South Neighborhood Crimes Section were

called to assist with the investigation. Upon further exploration of the area, police personnel discovered numerous

locations that had been vandalized with graffiti in the area. Some of the locations included a house as well as a vehicle,

specifically the side of a van. The suspect was identified as Albert Tadeo Reyes, 19-years old. A search warrant wasserved at the suspects residence, and additional items of evidence as well as information about his moniker and tagging

crew were obtained. Additional arrests related to his associated tagging crew may be forthcoming. Mr. Reyes was

arrested for 1 count of Criminal Damage, a Class 5 Felony. He was transported and booked into the Pima County Jail. His booking photograph is included below.

In the second incident, officers working in Operations Division Downtown initiated a consensual contact with two males,

who were walking in the Downtown area on the early morning of May 9, 2012. The officers noted that the males were

carrying various items of graffiti paraphernalia on their person and had spray paint on both their hands and clothing. Once

again, the TAG Unit responded to assist with the investigation. In addition, detectives from the Operations Division

Midtown Neighborhood Crimes Section, helped with the investigation. A check of the area revealed numerous acts of

graffiti vandalism in the neighborhood surrounding the intersection of East 12 th Street and South Euclid Avenue. The

specific moniker used by each male was identified, thus making it possible to specifically identify which acts of graffiti

vandalism could be attributed to each male. One of the males was identified as 19-year old Pedro Contreras.
