What is Vandalism?

Vandalism means malicious destruction of anything that is beautiful or venerable. The term 'vandalism' is derived from the word 'vandals'.

We have segregated our topic ‘Vandalism’ into 5 subtopics which are as follows:

Bus shelters.Railway station.Gardens.Roads (including Houses/Huts on the

roads)Public toilets

Bus shelters• Bus shelters are roofed structures

for people to wait under at a bus stop. These shelter’s are made so that people can protect themselves from rains or by keeping themselves away from the sunlight.

• Bus shelter’s are made for our good. But we are not utilising it properly.

Railway station• Vandalism in railway stations have

increased in the recent years.

• The sitting areas for the people have been broken. This is mainly seen during riots.

• People litter the place with paper and plastic, spit anywhere, throw food wrappers and sometimes also food which makes the stations mice infested. It is very unhygienic and rotten food fills the air with foul smell.

Station is surrounded by a fence . Passengers vandalise it by breaking it so that they don’t have to be in the crowd while entering or leaving the station.

They cross the railway tracks instead of using the bridges that are constructed in order to avoid accidents and thus endanger their lives.

At times deviant groups break lights, announcement speakers, benches and vandalise the railway properties just for fun.

GARDEN Garden is a place where people can enjoy natural

beauty. But that beauty is not being maintained.

Gardens are not being kept clean. People who visit the garden make it dirty. They throw plastic bottles, food wrappers etc. instead of using the garbage bins provided to keep the garden clean.

The lamps in garden are also being broken, especially by children. These lamps are provided so that in the dark people, especially elderly people can have a clear vision.

o Children often play on swings, slides and see saws in such a rough manner that they end up damaging them.

o They are seen plucking flowers and leaves from the plants that are grown in the gardens to enhance their beauty.

o They often end up damaging the garden when they play cricket or any such games.

o Garden care takers often try to stop such damages but mostly it is too late and the garden is already damaged before they even realise it.

In the last picture, we can see that the entrance of the garden has been vandalised. The fence and railings on the side have been dislocated.

This mainly happens because people sit on it or children who play around it.

These railings are made to support the weak and the old people.

In the second picture, garden’s fence is vandalised. The fence is not is a proper line.

A fence is constructed in order to avoid trespassing.

It has been vandalised by people who enter the garden by jumping over the fence.

ROADS

• Roads are a wide way leading from one place to another, especially one with a specially prepared surface which vehicles can use.

• Roads are no longer maintained.

• Roads are being made as a home by the homeless people. They dirty the road by making shelters on it.

• Those shelters are not clean.

Outside our school

• People also make it a spot for throwing their leftovers, or throwing things made up of plastic.

• All these factors are destroying the cleanliness of the roads.

HOUSES

OHouse is basically a building for human habitation.

O But even Houses are being vandalised. These scenarios have a very destructive look.

OThis happens during riots, people start breaking other innocent people’s house in front of them.

OThe sight of it is very unpleasant.

• A person is appointed to maintain cleanliness of the washroom.

• He is in charge of the public toilets and also check the wastage of water.

• He charges Rs.2 per person.

• The slum dwellers often use these public toilets as their bathrooms and are seen washing their cloths and utensils.

• They are often responsible for keeping the taps running, breaking the taps, tiles, latches and bolts of the doors.

SchoolVANDALISm

School vandalism means when students destroy the school property.

In our school, vandalism is present but at a very low level. Students destroy the school property by throwing food on the stairs.

Breaking the class doors or window panes.

Breaking the chairs and tables , scraping the walls.

This is mainly seen during the break time or at the dispersal time.

However it is under control as the teachers maintain discipline in the school.

If any student is caught vandalising the school property than strict actions would be taken against that student.

Students are guided by the teachers to maintain cleanliness in the school and take care of the school properties.
