With the return of students to their classrooms the teachers have been compleng their assessments and wring the Semester 1 Reports. We will be providing a modified Semester 1 report that will be distributed to parents via Sentral on Tuesday, 23 rd June. Aſter reading the report, you are welcome to contact your childs teacher and organise a brief 5-10 minute interview by phone or WebEx if you need clarificaon about anything in the report. The report will include progression points for English and Maths from Years 1-6. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Families,

Assessment, Reporting and Parent/Teacher interviews. With the return of students to their classrooms the teachers have been completing their assessments and writing the Semester 1 Reports. Over the term, teachers had increased contact with families and there were more opportunities for discussion about your child’s progress. For this reason (and due to efforts to reduce contact between adults for COVID-19) there will be no scheduled formal interviews during the last week of term.

We will be providing a modified Semester 1 report that will be distributed to parents via Sentral on Tuesday, 23rd June. After reading the report, you are welcome to contact your child’s teacher and organise a brief 5-10 minute interview by phone or WebEx if you need clarification about anything in the report. The report will include progression points for English and Maths from Years 1-6. All year levels will have a general comment about each child’s agency, organisation and effort which is the Personal and Social Capability in the Victorian Curriculum. There are also Learning Overviews for year level learning in English, Maths and Specialist subjects. Students in Foundation will not receive a progression point, only a comment about their personal and social capability, as accurate testing in the online environment is challenging at this age.

If your child struggled in the remote learning environment and did not submit regular, quality work, the teacher will have already discussed these concerns about their progress with you and this will be reflected in their report.

Update on Camps for Year 2s, 4s and 6s. This week, the Victorian Chief Health Officer has advised that school camps can reopen from 21 June aligned with the opening of holiday accommodation communal facilities including shared kitchens and bathrooms; camps are not bound by public gathering limits. Health and safety precautions will be required. Year 4s have received information about their camp on 25th -27th November, Year 6s on 30th November and Year 2s on 14th December.

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE CONT’D

Brantome St Turnaround, Late arrivals, Drop Off and Pick-up Please use the Brantome St turnaround only as a quick drop-off and pick-up. Parents parking there for more than 2 minutes are causing a hazard to other drivers and families. If you wish to get out of the car and walk to the gate please park at the Scout Hall.

Late arrivals These students must be dropped at the Fisher St gate, observed to walk to the office door and then we take them to their class. Current Victorian Government rules do not allow parents onsite except for prearranged, unavoidable reasons.

There are ample spaces on Fisher St each morning for families in 3-6 to drive by and ‘kiss and drop’. In the afternoons, it’s quite busy at 3.25pm but much quieter if Yr 3-6 families come to Fisher St at 3.30pm or 3.35pm when there are lots of spaces. At 3.25 pm, we need to continue providing the school kerbside spaces for the younger children, the Preps in Prince St and the Year 1/2s in Fisher St.

Children who walk/ride to school may continue to use their usual route and enter the school grounds at any of the four gates. Please remember to walk bikes and scooters to ensure safety of pedestrians.

Thank you for your ongoing support of the pandemic regulations to keep everyone safe. Julie Soutter

MISSING STUDENT BOMBER JACKET—POOLE FAMILY WE ARE ASKING FAMILIES TO CHECK THEIR JACKETS TO SEE IF BY ACCIDENT THEY HAVE

MISSING THIS NEW JACKET. IF YOU FIND IT—JUST RETURN IT TO THE OFFICE. THANK YOU.

LEARNING ITALIAN AT GPS

PRACTIsE MAKES PERFECTIO!

Practise makes perfect when it comes to learning another language. We are encouraging our students to practise appreciation using Italian. Here are some ways to practise:

Apprezzo mia mamma e mio papa – I appreciate my mum and dad Apprezzo la mia casa – I appreciate my house Apprezzo mio insegnante – I appreciate my teacher Apprezzo la mia scuola – I appreciate my school Apprezzo il mio letto – I appreciate my bed (that’s one for the upper year levels!)

MESSAGE FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

Prep Enrolments 2021

We have been receiving many enrolment forms for 2021 which is

fantastic. At this stage, we are uncertain as to whether we can

conduct face to face tours of the school next term and will continue

to communicate with families regarding this. If you have a child

beginning school next year, please refer to the “Prep Enrolment

Information” section further on in this newsletter. If you have any

questions, contact the office by phone or email. Details further on in

the newsletter.

The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)

Each year, government schools across Australia are required to collect data about students in

their school who may have a disability or require an adjustment in the classroom to access the

curriculum. This process allows for all data to be collected in a consistent, reliable and systematic

way. NCCD counts the number of school students with disability and/or receiving educational

adjustments. The purpose of the NCCD is to build an evidence base that will provide teachers

and schools with information about students who require an adjustment. It also informs

development and future planning to better equip schools and education to support all students

in government schools. Gisborne PS will be collecting their data in Term 3. Parental consent is not

required for data collection with all student information following the privacy processes as

outlined by the NCCD.

Home School Partnership – School diaries

All students have a Gisborne PS student diary and have been working towards our school value

of Responsibility when using these. These are a great resource and include activities that

students can complete at home. Students are required to fill out their diary by including their

reading each night and writing in any important dates. Staff are working with the students at

school on building these skills on being responsible and organised. To further support your

children, please assist them at home to complete tasks through reminders and encouragement.

Home School Partnership - Drop off

I have to say how proud I am of the students each morning. Over

the last few weeks, I have seen our students, including our Preps,

build their resilience, responsibility and personal best when being

dropped off each day. Children coming to school with a smile on

their face each day and ready to learn is fantastic. It demonstrates

how if we give our children the opportunity to develop these skills,

they rise to the challenge. Well done to all of the parents who

have supported their children with developing these skills. It’s

wonderful to see.

Have a wonderful weekend.

SPECIAL THANKS TO THE BENDIGO BANK FROM OUR STAFF HERE AT GPS

Last week we had a special visit from staff from the Bendigo Bank Gisborne Branch. They delivered coffee vouchers for all of our staff members, as a way to say thank you for our hard work especially in recent times. Thank you Bendigo Bank Gisborne for your thoughtfulness and generosity. It is nice to be acknowledged and appreciated.

IMPORTANT HEALTH UPDATE

KEEPING YOUR CHILD/REN HOME IF THEY ARE SICK

We want to thank all the families and carers who have kept their children home when they have been sick especially with any cold type symptoms such as a runny nose, sore throat or cough. It is important in these times that all children who are experiencing any of the above symptoms, are kept home from school until all symptoms resolve. If there is some other medical reason why your child/ren have these symptoms, for example a cough due to asthma or a runny nose due to allergies such as hay fever, please let the teacher or office staff know. Management of the medical condition will be required and the appropriate medical management plan and medication be made available at the office. If you have any queries please speak to the office. If your child/ren are sent to school with any of the above symptoms without a known medical condition, such as the examples above, they will be sent by their teacher to the sick bay and families will be called to pick them up. This is a directive from the Department of Education, aimed at reducing the possible spread of infections in general, but in particular COVID 19. We thank you for your co-operation and understanding. It is important that we protect all members of our school community including students, staff and their families.

DO YOU HAVE ANY SPARE iPad

CORDS AT HOME ? Dear families, We are in the process of putting together trollies for the iPads in the school. So far we have com-pleted the year 1, 2, and 3 trollies. Upon completion we have found that we are missing at least 40 cords for charging the iPads. We were hoping that if any families had any spare apple cords lying around the house, they may like to donate them to the school? They would be very much appreciated—many thanks Jo Goodwin (STEM)

PARENTS & CARERS PLEASE NOTE

Submitted by Mel Damen. Special thanks to Mel for submitting the “Classroom Close Ups” and the “Specialist Spotlight” for the last few months.

Week 10- Year 4, 5 & 6 Kitchen Recipe

Savoury Seasonal Muffins This recipe can be used with a variety of available vegetables depending on the time of year and what you have available. Some great ideas for muffins this time of year though are; 200 g pumpkin cut into 1-cm cubes and roasted for 15 minutes on an oven tray at 180°C, and a small handful of chives, finely chopped. Or…. 2 large silver beet leaves, stems removed, leaves thinly sliced. Sauté in 1 tablespoon of olive oil for 5 minutes. Mix with finely chopped parsley. Remember: to wash your hands before preparing food and always ask an adult for help or supervision when using sharp and hot equipment!
