up to the top of the zone and drop their child off promptly. This allows our families to

utilise this each morning.

Classroom Newsletters—7th February

Teachers are sending home a classroom edition of the newsletter today. This is a special edition circulated in

the 2nd week of each term. A printed copy will be sent home with your child today.

Open Afternoon & Family Picnic — Thursday 21st February 2.40pm to 5.30pm

Families are invited to attend an “open” afternoon in the classroom of their children at the school on Thursday 21st of February. Classrooms will be open from 2.40pm for families to visit children, join in activities and see their works in progress. We encourage families to attend where possible to share this special occasion with their children.

Following on from this will be a family picnic on the oval between 3.30pm and 5.30pm with families bringing their own picnic basket for an early dinner.

Information, Technology and Communication (ICT) Agreement

Our ICT Agreement will be sent out next week. There will be some changes to this agreement. More

information will follow in next week’s newsletter.

Thanks again to the PFA!

We wish to thank the hard working parents on the PFA for their efforts in providing the recent “Tea and

Tissues” morning tea on Monday morning the 4th of February. A tasty selection of scones, jam and cream

together with refreshments was provided to our new Prep parents. This is an important event on the school

and PFA calendar as is provides an opportunity for new parents to receive a warm welcome on their first day at

the school. We thank you again for organising this event.

Kind regards. Julie Soutter, Principal & Lisa Maxwell, Assistant Principal

! Thank you !

MEDICAL CONDITION/S—STUDENT MANAGEMENT PLAN If your child suffers from an ongoing medical condition including allergies, asthma, diabetes or epilepsy, your child

must have an up to date management plan at all times.

Management plans need to be completed by your GP. They must also be reviewed and updated annually by your GP and the new plan provided to the school.

If your child is required to take regular medication as part of this plan, this should also be outlined in the

medication plan.

If the school is required to hold medication as part of the management plan, it needs to be current (not expired).

If you are unsure if you need to update an existing management plan, or need to check current medication and expiry dates, please drop in or call the office for further information.

NEW STUDENT CONSENT AND AGREEMENT FORMS—PLEASE RETURN In the student welcome packs each child was provided with various consent and agreement forms, including the

Wellbeing Consent Form, Seesaw Permission Form and our Digital Learning & Internet Acceptable Use Policy (Parent Agreement) Form.

It is important that these forms are completed and returned to the office within the first week of Term 1. If you

have not yet done this, we would appreciate your assistance in doing so.

If you cannot locate your original forms, please contact us in the office. Digital copies are also available on the school portal at Sentral. These can be downloaded , printed and completed.

You are welcome to email us your completed copies via our general email at [email protected]

Your child can alternatively drop the completed forms into the office.

Sport & P.E 2019

Hi everyone, I hope you all had an enjoyable break with your family and like me are looking forward to what should be a fantastic 2019. Following is some information including a few changes that I would like to pass on to you in relation to the sports calendar and events in 2019.

Years 3-6 Swimming Carnival—15th February (Friday) First and foremost, the year 3-6 swimming carnival is only a couple of weeks away on Friday, 15th of February. I will once again hold the carnival at Melton Aquatic Centre and like last year, the event will cater for all students’ swimming capabilities. I will run events in the main outside the pool, the small pool (waist deep), the shallow end of the 50 metre pool and the traditional 50 metre events. Last year we nearly had every year 3-6 student attend the event. This year I’d like to improve on that number and see if we can have every student be part of what should be a great day.

Years 3-6 Athletics and Cross Country Last year the weather gods were less than kind to us during the year 3-6 Athletics Carnival. Traditionally I’ve held

this event much later in the year, however after a couple of years of disruptions due to weather, I’m going to

trial running it early term 2 (May 3rd-week 2). The good news for the community is that I’m going to run it at

Dixon Field, which will mean no cost to the students and hopefully more of an opportunity for you to come

down and see your children compete. The House Cross country will run in term one on the last Wednesday of

the term at Gardiner oval.

School Sport Victoria Team Vic Registration Process I sent out information late last year with regards to the School Sport Victoria Team Vic Registration Process. To be eligible children registering to trial must be turning 10, 11 or 12 years of age in 2019. However, if your child is in year 4 or 5 they would need to be exceptional at their chosen sport to be considered. I can guide you in relation to what School Sport Victoria would consider to be ‘exceptional’ with regards to this process. Please note all applications need to be signed off by me before the students can participate at the trial. We are limited with the number of students we can send from the district, so we need to ensure we send the most talented students from our district as this is the expectation of the selectors who conduct the trials. Please see me if you need any further clarification regarding this process.

Hats and drink bottles I love to take advantage of the weather that first term (and some of second term) has to offer by venturing out-side as much as possible. However, this means your children will be exposed to the sun more regularly than any other term. Can I please remind you to send your children with a water bottle, sunscreen and hat (which they should have in term one) on their P.E days. Last year, I gave out a number of spare hats during our P.E sessions and unfortunately my emergency supply has dwindled.

If anyone has any questions about the program or general questions about P.E and Sport please email me, or better yet come and see me for a chat. Kind Regards, Michael Goodyear (Gisborne Primary School P.E and Sports Coordinator)

LOST PROPERTY—UNIFORMS Many thanks to Deb Joyce one of our parents, who kindly sorted out the large volume of lost uniforms! She

spent several hours sorting out all of the items, and returning labelled items to their owners in each classroom.

Please make sure your child’s uniform items are labelled. Without a label they are unlikely to be returned to the correct owner!

Lost uniform items are kept in the corridor near the staff toilets in the administration building. If you are miss-ing items, please check here asap. Any items which are unlabelled and unclaimed at the end of each term, are

washed and donated to local charity shops.

YEAR 6 CAMP INSTALMENTS

Families of Year 6 students now have the option to start making instalments toward the cost

of camp via the Qkr App. The cost will be approximately $250- $300 and we will notify

families of the exact amount due once we have been advised by the camp later in the year

(along with further information relating to the camp).

Making these instalments is purely optional, and is just to assist families who would prefer to

start paying in advance. We will be sending family statements home monthly to allow parents

to keep track of payments to school.

Should you have any queries in regards to these payments, please contact Ilsa in the school

office. Any queries regarding details of camp can be directed to your child’s classroom

teacher.

Sun smart

The Anti-Cancer council have recommendations regarding the UV rating for each day. If the UV rating

is 3 or above, people need to follow the Sun smart guidelines including:

Wearing a broad brimmed hat

Wearing sunglasses

Applying and reapplying sunscreen throughout the day

Please encourage your child to apply sunscreen before coming to school. If you would like your child

to reapply the sunscreen during the day, please send a named tube and your child can reapply this

throughout the day. Please teach your child to do this independently. It is extremely important to put in

place measures to support our children. There is a Sun smart app which families can download as a

learning experience with their children to demonstrate it doesn’t have to be a sunny day to have a UV

rating of 3 or higher.

MATHLETICS & iPads

An email was sent out to parents this week outlining details of the school’s subscription to Mathletics, an interactive, online, educational website that supports the improvement of student maths skills through fun

resources and activities that are directly linked to the Victorian Mathematics Curriculum.

We have had various enquiries from parents about whether or not this program can be accessed using an iPad or other similar types of devices.

Mathletics can be accessed using an iPad. System requirements are outlined at their website at

http://www.3plearning.com/tech/mathletics/ You will be required to download an app to access the program if using an iPad.

Minimum system requirements for PC’s or MACS plus supported browsers are also outlined at the above site.

From next month, teachers will be setting regular homework tasks based on their current classroom focus using Mathletics. Activities will be regularly incorporated into classroom maths programs. Therefore it is important that you ensure that your child has access to this program from home. If you have any access issues please let

us know.

The Parent’s and Friends Association (PFA) hosted their annual ‘Tea & Tissues’ morning for the Prep parents on Monday. The scones and jam were more popular than the tissues! The PFA is the main fundraising body for the school. Fundraising

contributes to a wide range of areas including ground works, as well as purchasing resources for classrooms and specialist areas that may not be possible otherwise. We also offer our support to those in our school community who may need it. The PFA is open to any new parent, carer or friend to the school who would like to contribute to making our school the best possible environment for our children. As a member you can offer as much or as little time as you have available. Meetings are held on the third Monday of the month at 9:00am in the staffroom. Meetings are relaxed and children are welcome. Our next meeting will be on Monday the 18th of February. If you are interested in joining the PFA in 2019, email [email protected]
