To ensure alignment with physical distancing measures, families are required to continue to maintain 1.5 metres between each other as far as is practical. Signage will be going up in the next two days at entrances and in different areas of the school regarding the maximum number of members of the public that may be present in the space at a single time. To support contact tracing, schools must continue to keep a record of all staff, students and visitors who attend on site for more than 15 minutes. Therefore, parents will not be able to arrive in the grounds before 3.20pm and will need to leave within 15 minutes of arriving. With the added complications of our building project, reduced parking and reduced spaces around some classrooms, we will be continuing our current drop-off arrangements each morning. Please do not come into the school grounds in the mornings to drop off your children. In the mornings and afternoons, school kerbside parking in Prince St, Fisher St and the Brantome St turning circle will continue to be 1-2 minutes drop-off and pick-up only. If you wish to leave your car and come in after school, please park a block away to allow other families to continue with the quicker drop-off/pick-up process which is very convenient for most families. Instructions for entry to the school grounds at pick-up time for each year level: >Preps With limited space around the prep classrooms, Prep parents are asked to wait on the oval for collection of their children (please park a block away), or continue to pick them up from your car in Prince St. Prep teachers will walk their classes via the oval to Prince St. >Year 1s and Year 3s Parents may come into the courtyard or the passive play area to pick up your children (please park a block away). There are limits to the numbers of parents coming into the courtyard area. Preferably please continue to pick them up near your car in Fisher St. >Year 2s With limited space around the front of the Year 2 building, Year 2 parents are asked to wait around the gym and canteen area for collection of their children (please park a block away) or continue to pick them up near your car or other current arrangements. >Year 4/5/6s Parents can come onsite from 3.20pm and wait near their childs classroom and leave within 15 minutes. Physical distancing rules apply. Or continue to pick them up near your car or follow your current arrangements. Students walking and riding bikes. It is fantastic to see the number of children being active and riding or walking to school with their parents. If parents have done traffic and bike education with their children, including finding the safest route to school, using all available crossings and footpaths, it is up to you to determine your childs readiness to ride or walk to school independently. We dont have a specific policy or rules about how families transport their children to and from school. We do urge the appropriate traffic education and that younger children (under 10 years) be accompanied by an adult or older sibling if coming some distance and crossing busy roads. Enjoy the rest of your week — Julie Soutter. IMPORTANT INFORMATION >DROP-OFF & PICK UP ARRANGEMENTS SEE BELOW:

MESSAGE FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

Caring Hearts, Caring Minds, Caring Actions Transition to 2021 Students will meet their 2021 teacher and class mates on Tuesday December the 8th at our final step

up transition day for the year. As you may be able to appreciate, with over 550 students and

approximately 80 students in each cohort, this is an extremely difficult job. All students have their own

individual needs and each class needs a balance of various requirements such as academic,

behaviours, additional needs and other. Hours upon hours have been spent on creating these classes

– a role that teachers and leadership do not take lightly. Parents were given multiple opportunities to

put in writing preferences based on academic needs only.

Please support your child through being positive about change and the excitement of being in a new

class with their 2021 teacher. This is another opportunity to develop resilience and a positive growth

mindset in our children.

Please note: There will not be any further requests taken or changes made to classes.

End of year gratitude Thank you to the families for embracing change with our adjustment from student

Kris Kringle, to showing our support towards those in need. Our students

demonstrated Student Voice and have chosen to either support the Gisborne

Foodbank or a charity of their choice. Our new approach has been

overwhelmingly positive and accepted. The support and gratitude that is being

displayed and developed in our students is fantastic. Thank you everyone for

discussing this with your children. Please bring along your items and give them to

the classroom teachers by Wednesday 9th of December.

Respect I would like to focus on our school value of Respect with a few dot

points on the behaviours that need to be demonstrated and reinforced

by our whole school community including students, staff and parents.

Behaviours that demonstrate respect: >Being kind towards others

>Treating everyone in a courteous manner

>No gossiping in the community

>Being considerate about other people and their feelings

>Speaking in a considerate way towards adults and each other

It is important that we as adults model these behaviour for our children and that we uphold the value

of respect when having conversations. Our teaching staff are reinforcing these behaviours at school

every day and are linked in with our school values.

Reminders about uniform and hair With only a few weeks to go, it continues to be important for all students to be in school uniform.

Please ensure students are wearing the correct clothing in line with our school uniform policy. Students

with long hair, need to have their hair tied up. There have been some cases of head lice, as well as it

being part of our uniform policy. We appreciate your support with this.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Regards, Lisa Maxwell

FILMING YESTERDAY NEXT TO THE SCHOOL Yesterday was a busy day next to the school, with the filming of the new Channel 7 series of Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries next door at the St Andrews Presbyterian Church. It was an exciting experience for all of the students to see the actors in their costumes from the 60s, the crew required to make the film happen, along with all the equipment and crew trailers. We might even now have some inspired budding actors amongst our students after the day.

The crew filmed from 7am to 7pm. Small groups of our students visited the edge of the set and some of them got to speak to some of the actors and film crew. They had to be silent during any filming. The feedback from the film crew and security indicated that they were very impressed with the behaviour and mindfulness of our students throughout the day and when they visited the site during filming. We thank the students for their great behaviour yesterday. The school will receive a small donation from the film company for any inconvenience we experienced on the day.

CHANGES TO SCHOOL BANKING IN 2021 IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Following a review by ASIC of school banking programs in government schools, the Victorian government has made a decision to remove the delivery of school banking programs in all

We wish to thank our School Banking Volunteer Anthea Gledhill for her assistance this

year.

GRADE 6 CAMP TO ANGLESEA 2020

This week the grade 6 students attended camp at Anglesea. The bus took the students to the Anglesea YMCA Recreation Camp on Monday. Students participated in a variety of activities including marine discovery, raft building, canoeing, initiatives, giant swing, mountain biking, radio rogaine and archery. An awesome time was had by everyone including the staff, students and parent helpers. The weather was also very well behaved! A special thank you to all our “support crew” including staff and parent helpers for making this camp such a wonderful event and lasting memory for our grade 6 students here at GPS.

The Importance of Water! Our bodies are made up of approximately 70% water. Water has many important functions in the body, These include regulating our body’s temperature, digesting food and excreting waste. Our body loses water throughout the day when we sweat, breathe and go to the toilet. It is important to replace the water you have lost to prevent ourselves from becoming dehydrated.

Children are at a greater risk of dehydration than adults. Children don’t always recognise that they are thirsty and if they’re not encouraged and reminded may forget to drink. Luckily, there are a few ways to tell if your child is hydrated.

How do I know if my child is hydrated? Frequent bathroom breaks are the easiest way to tell if your child is hydrated. You can also look out for these common symptoms of dehydration: >Headaches >Poor concentration >Thirst >Cracked lips >Dry mouth >Constipation >Lethargy >Dark urine

How much water does my child need? The amount your child needs will vary depending on their age, size and level of activity. For children under 8 years of age, at least 4-6 glasses of water is recommended. For children older than 8 years of age a minimum of 6-8 glasses is recommended. If your child is playing sports or is very active they will need extra fluid. Kids will also need more fluid on hot days or when unwell.

Tips to help your kids stay hydrated! >Pack a water bottle for school. Try a frozen water bottle in summer. >Encourage your child to drink water before, after and during physical activity >Always offer water with meals and snacks >Encourage your child to drink water, even if they don’t like it!

Tips for kids who don’t like water >Try adding slices of fruits such as lemon or orange to water, for variety and flavour. >Let your kids choose their own drink bottle or serve water in colourful glasses or jugs. >Be a role model! Make a point of drinking water with your kids. >Experiment with temperature; try having a jug of water in the fridge, adding ice-cubes, or even warm water in winter.

A FRIENDLY MESSAGE FROM OUR LIBRARY HAVE A LOOK ~ LOOK ~ LOOK!

Hello again dear students and families,

My shelves are feeling empty. I appreciate students borrowing books

and taking them home.

Unfortunately some of the books tend to roam!

Check your house, under your beds, even have a look in your sheds!

Look anywhere, look everywhere. I am sorry for my despair.

I just want my books returned soon, otherwise I will think they have

flown to the moon.

HAPPY LIBRARY BOOK HUNTING!
