attendu, il s’est vu répondre : « Nous savons
qui vous êtes monsieur Kenzo, ça ne change

designer Kenzo Takada was being denied passage at the other end of the Croisette.
Without the required official sticker on his Bentley, security refused to let him by.
Introducing himself and stating he was expected somewhere, he was told, “We
know who you are, Mr Kenzo, but that doesn’t change anything. You know, last week

et le port de tête altier. Les clients,
pourtant habitués à croiser des stars,
ne la quittent pas des yeux. De toute
la soirée aussi, car la belle passait son
temps à sortir fumer, lançant à tous

Gala : Vous organisez ce soir une collecte de fonds pour le Japon avec un défilé Fashion For Relief*. Le festival de Cannes
est-il le lieu propice ?Naomi Campbell : Peu importe l’endroit. Je devais descendre et je me suis dit que le cadre se prêtait au thème « tapis rouge » de notre défilé. Les gens font preuve de solidarité et donnent de leur temps et de leur énergie à notre cause. Ils se sentent concernés. Nous espérons collecter le maximum d’argent. Des merveilleux lots vont être mis aux enchères. Toutes les robes portées durant le défilé pourront être acquises.Gala : Les gens ont immédiatement été sensibles à votre projet ?N. C. : Je n’ai rencontré aucun problème. Les images du Japon ont marqué les esprits. Tout le monde veut apporter son aide. Demandez autour de vous, vous verrez bien. Le maire de Cannes a été fabuleux, nous lui sommes infiniment reconnaissants de mettre le Marché Forville à notre disposition.Gala : Que représente le Festival à vos yeux ?N. C. : J’ai à l’esprit toutes ces légendes qui y ont participé. Alain Delon, Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot… Cannes est très cher à mon cœur. Bien sûr, c’est un lieu de mondanités, mais c’est aussi un marché où l’on présente des films, afin qu’ils trouvent des acheteurs. Des tonnes de contrats sont signés.Gala : Qui espérez-vous voir ce soir ?N. C. : Pas de noms ! On vous réserve la surprise des invités. J’espère que le maximum de monde répondra présent à notre rendez-vous. Ce qu’il y a de génial avec ce défilé, c’est que le public pourra y assister. Japan with a Fashion For Relief
show tonight. Is it relevant to do it in
Cannes?
Naomi Campbell: It doesn’t matter where it is. This
is just where I was gonna be and where I thought it
could be because of the red carpet theme of the
show. And the relevancy is that everyone is coming
together and giving of their time and efforts
to make this work. They care about. Japan has
affected them in a good way. We hope to raise as
much as we can. We’ve got great auctionned
items. All the dresses that are on the runway
will be auctionned.
Gala: Did you find it easy to make people
feel concerned?
N.C.: It hasn’t been a problem. The images
stand for themselves. Everyone is just wanting to
contribute and to help. You can ask and you will
find out. The mayor of Cannes has been amazing
and we’re so grateful to him that he has a given
to us the place of the Marché Forville to walk in.
Gala: What does the film festival stand for you?
N.C.: It stands for the historical people who have
been here before. Alain Delon, Elizabeth Taylor,
Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot… Cannes is very
special to me. Of course, there is the social side but
there’s also a side where people are promotting
their films, countries are buying and deals and
deals are happening.
Gala: Who are you looking forward
to seeing tonight?
N.C.: No names ! The « who » is the surprise. I’m
looking forward to seeing everyone. What’s great
about the show is that the public can come to the
show. Normally with our fashion shows, they can’t.
That’s what makes it so special et so great.
Gala: Will you be doing the catwalk?
N.C.: I don’t know yet. I haven’t decided.

Gala : Dans quel état d’esprit étiez-vous hier soir avant la montée des marches de The Artist, de Michel Hazanavicius ?
Bérénice Bejo : J’étais excitée et très fière à l’idée de présenter ce film et de le partager avec le public, contente qu’il n’appartienne plus uniquement à Michel, à Jean (Dujardin) et à moi.Gala : The Artist est un film muet, un parti pris osé…B. B. : Cela faisait des années que Michel souhaitait faire ce projet, personne n’en voulait, il lui a fallu une année pour le monter… Dès les trois premières minutes, on oublie qu’il n’y a pas de texte et que c’est en noir et blanc, on rit, on pleure, emportés par la magnifique histoire d’amour. Ce sont les personnages et le cadre dans lequel nous a mis Michel qui emportent le tout. Je suis très heureuse pour lui que son film soit ici, à Cannes, en compétition.Gala : Vous vous étiez mise en condition avant la projection ?B. B. : Je n’avais besoin ni de me concentrer ni de répéter, je me suis laissé porter, les amis qui appelaient, les gens qui rentraient et sortaient de ma chambre, tout cela participait à l’énergie particulière nécessaire au red carpet.Gala : Vous avez fait une arrivée très remarquée sur le red carpet tous les trois en noir et blancB. B. : Nous sommes une toute petite équipe, je n’avais pas envie de jouer à la princesse, je voulais me sentir unie aux deux hommes qui m’accompagnaient. Ce n’était pas ma robe qui importait mais le film qui comptait, j’ai préféré arriver en smoking.

mind last night before your
red-carpet climb for Michel
Hazanavicius’ The Artist?
Bérénice Bejo: I was excited and very proud at the
idea of presenting this movie and sharing it with
the public, glad that it no longer belonged solely to
Michael, Jean (Dujardin) and me.
Gala: The Artist is a silent movie,
a daring move…
B. B.: Michael has wanted to do this project for
years, nobody wanted anything to do with it, it
took him a year to edit it... Three minutes into the
film, you forget that there’s no script and that it’s in
black and white, you laugh, you cry, swept up in the
superb love story. The characters and context
Michel put us in carry the whole film. I’m very
happy for him that his movie is in competition here
in Cannes.
Gala: Did you prepare in any way for
the screening?
B. B.: I didn’t need to concentrate or rehearse, I just
let myself be swept away with it all, the friends who
called, the people coming in and out of my room…
all that helped create the special energy needed for
the red carpet.
Gala: All three of you made a very striking red-
carpet entrance, all in black and white.
B. B.: We’re a tiny little team, I didn’t want to play
the princess, I wanted to feel united with the two
men accompanying me. My dress wasn’t what
mattered; the movie was the important thing. I
preferred showing up in a tuxedo.

Gala : Vous présentez Un baiser papillon, réalisé par Karine Silla*. C’est une vraie histoire de famille !Vincent Perez : Je joue avec mes filles un rôle écrit pour moi et je suis dirigé par ma femme ! Devant ma fille Iman, je ne pouvais
pas tricher pendant les scènes. C’était émouvant, très joyeux de jouer avec elle, douloureux aussi, car le merveilleux de ces instants de tournage appartient déjà au passé.Gala : Pourquoi ce nom de Baiser papillon ?V. P. : C’est un film très dense, populaire comme le souhaitait Karine, qui parle de la vie des gens, des étapes que cette dernière nous oblige à franchir parfois malgré nous, de la renaissance. On passe d’une histoire à une autre, comme un papillon qui butine de fleur en fleur.Gala : Qu’évoque pour vous le festival de Cannes ?V. P. : Les films présentés ici appellent tous au débat. C’est un festival qui vénère le cinéma, qui le met sur un piédestal, un lieu de rencontre, une vraie communauté. C’est la Mecque du cinéma.Gala : Votre plus beau souvenir de red carpet ?V. P. : Mon premier vrai Festival avec un vrai grand film, c’était pour Cyrano de Bergerac, dans lequel j’interprétais le rôle de Christian. C’était phénoménal, les gens applaudissaient à la fin de chaque scène. Quand, avant de mourir, le personnage de Gérard Depardieu dit : « il y a quelque chose que j’emporte malgré vous, c’est mon panache », le plan n’était même pas fini que la salle s’est levée d’un bond. Les applaudissements nous ont portés jusqu’à l’extérieur de la salle de projection. On était en lévitation.

Butterfly Kiss, directed by
Karine Silla*. It’s a real
family affair!
Vincent Perez: I’m acting with my
daughters in a role written for me and I’m
directed by my wife! I couldn’t cheat in
scenes in front of my daughter, Iman. It
was moving and very joyous to act with
her, painful, too, because the magic of
these moments of filming is already in
the past.
Gala: Why the name A Butterfly
Kiss?
V.P.: This film is very dense, a people’s
film, like Karine wanted, that addresses
people’s lives, the stages of life that we
have to go through sometimes in spite of
ourselves, rebirth. We pass from one
story to another, like a butterfly
gathering pollen, flitting from flower to
flower.
Gala: What does the Cannes Film
Festival mean to you?
V. P.: The films presented here are all
thought-provoking, controversial. It’s a
festival that worships moviemaking, puts
it on a pedestal; it’s a meeting place, a
true community. It’s the Mecca of
cinema.
Gala: Your favourite red carpet
memory?
V. P.: My first real Festival with a truly
great film was for Cyrano de Bergerac, in
which I played the role of Christian. It was
phenomenal; people were clapping at
the end of each scene. When, before he
died, the Gérard Depardieu character
said, “In spite of you, there is one crown I
bear away with me, my white plume,” the
shot hadn’t even ended yet and the
whole audience leapt out of their seats.
We could hear the applause all the way
outside the screening room. We were on
Cloud 9.

The actress, soon to be a mother for the third time,
and her partner, Yvan Attal, landed on the Croisette last
night. The most endearing of French couples will add an
extra touch of glamour to this 64th Festival, which already
has plenty to spare.
Jack Sparrow will long remember his visit to Cannes,
but with mixed feelings, surely, due to journalists’
scathing reviews of Pirates of the Caribbean 4. But the pirate’s seen plenty such
critiques and he promised to come back and take the prize!

C ’est là que tout se passe. Magie d’une programmation
musicale exceptionnelle, d’une terrasse qui surplombe
Cannes et d’un open bar notamment sponsorisé par Moët
& Chandon. Il arrive même que les personnalités se retrouvent
dans des embouteillages au pied de l’ascenseur qui mène au sep-
tième ciel des fêtards. Parmi les plus assidus : Frédéric Beigbeder et
Nicolas Bedos, qui refusent pourtant de poser à l’entrée… �

Autour de lui, une pléiade de stars comme le mythique
Roger Hodgson, qui repris les plus grands tubes de son
ex-groupe Supertramp en fin de repas. �

Depuis qu’il était arrivé, le président du jury ROBERT DE NIRO n’avait même pas eu le temps de se rendre au restaurant japonais Nobu, dont il est actionnaire et qu’il a fait déplacer tout spécialement à Cannes. Mais il a réparé cette erreur samedi soir. Il n’était pas la seule personnalité dans l’assistance, puisque ROSA-RIO DAWSON, VANESSA HUDGENS, mais aussi VINCENT ELBAZ et JOSÉ GARCIA y dînaient ce soir-là. The place to… eat.
A Cannes, deux mondes cohabitent : les festi-valiers et les résidents. De leur rencontre naît parfois des situations cocasses. Comme cette dame âgée qui a été intraitable sur l’heure de son cours de ski nautique prévu du ponton du Majestic Barrière. Contraignant le photographe à shooter l’égérie L’Oréal AISHWARYA RAI entre deux essais où elle tombait à l’eau…
Le plus dur à Cannes, c’est encore d’éviter JUDE LAW, qui démontre un vrai tempérament de fêtard. L’acteur se rend notamment régulière-ment au club du 3.14 en fin de soirée. Avant de rentrer dans sa chambre du Majestic, où l’un des journalistes du Gala Croisette a pris l’as-censeur avec lui sans le reconnaître. Oui, la fa-tigue commence à nous gagner…
Nous avons une fan au Festival. JANE FONDA a demandé à se faire livrer trente exemplaires du Gala Croisette dans sa suite. Il faut dire qu’elle faisait l’ouverture de notre quotidien sur le sujet Red Carpet… Bref, nous aimons Jane Fonda et elle nous le rend bien. On adore…
Grosse fiesta en prévision. C’est au Mouton Cadet Wine Bar que JEAN-PAUL BELMONDO organisera sa soirée privée le 17, à la suite de sa montée des marches pour l’hommage à sa carrière. Il sera accompagné de l’élue de son cœur, la spectaculaire et sulfureuse Barbara Gan-dolfi, mais aussi de son fils et de son frère. Un genre de réunion de famille, donc.
Beuverie. LEONARDO DICAPRIO et BRADLEY COOPER, résidents tous les deux de l’Eden Roc, ont décidé de com-mander du champagne. Qu’ils ont préféré boire sans verre, directement au goulot. lifetime achievement tribute. He’ll

Binge. LEONARDO DICAPRIO and
BRADLEY COOPER, both staying at
the Eden Roc, decided to order
champagne. Which they chose to
drink straight from the bottle,
