LEADERSHIP AND

DEVELOPMENT

Indiana Greek Leadership

Conference

Purdue University's Interfraternity

Council, Multicultural Greek

Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council and Panhellenic Association

are hosting the 30th annual

Indiana Greek Leadership Conference (IGLC) on Sunday,

November 2nd, 2014 from 9:00am

to 4:00pm in the Stewart Center. This conference is for members of

Greek communities at colleges and universities throughout Indiana

that are either current leaders

within their organization/councils or are aspiring to hold leadership

positions. The opening keynote

speaker, TJ Sullivan, will be discussing how to motivate the

members of your organization and

the closing speaker is Odell Bizzell. Breakout session topics include

how to have difficult conversations,

ethical leadership, cross-cultural leadership, identifying strengths

and weaknesses, and much more.

Lunch is also provided. IFC and Panhellenic chapters are required

to have at least 10% of their

members present. A link for registration will be sent out very

soon and you must pre-register.

We are excited to announce that the fees have been reduced from

$50 to $15. The NPHC and MGC

councils will be discussing expectations for attendance at

their next meeting.

New Member Orientation- October 19th

New Member Orientation brings together all of the new

members from all 4 councils of Purdue's Fraternity & Sorority Life. The event is used to teach new

members about many aspects of college life, fraternity & sorority life, and many more. Some of the main topics that will be covered are risk management,

accountability, leadership development, and academics. The date for NMO this fall will be October

19, 2014. Rick Barnes will be coming from Campus Speak to give two keynote presentations, one at 1:00 p.m. and one at 2:30 p.m. Both of these will be at

Loeb Playhouse. He will be giving his "Living the Dreams of Our Founders" keynote. There will be

approximately 1000 new members from all four Greek councils in attendance. There will also be breakout sessions for students to choose which topics they want

to learn more about. 95% of each chapter’s new member class and new member educator are required

to attend.

Old Masters Program:

If you have seen the yellow buttons around campus worn by

students you know exactly what that means.... it’s time for Old

Masters again! The Old Master Program is one of the oldest programs here at Purdue dating back to the 1950s. The mission

of the program is to inspire a diverse group of individuals to pursue a lifetime of personal development interactions with

proven leaders by embracing tradition, uniting generations, and impacting tomorrow. This year the program starts on Sunday

November 2nd to come hear the Old Masters talk about their success stories and Classroom talks to have an Old Master come

and speak to your class. Please visit the Old Masters website at http://www.purdueoldmasters.org/ to look for more information!

Campus Events Greek Olympics: The Greek Olympics 2014, hosted by Sigma Chi, took another huge step forward

this year. The event took place on September 28th from 1 - 4 pm at the Rankin Track and Field Arena and featured 34 different fraternities and sororities as they all competed to be crowned The

Greek Olympians of Purdue University. A total of 5 events took place including: 4x100m relay, 100m dash, a football throw competition, tug-of-war, and a water balloon launch/catch

competition. After a long day of battles, the gentlemen Pi Kappa Alpha were crowned champions for the fraternities and the ladies of Kappa Alpha Theta took home the title for the sororities.

Runner up's for the men included Phi Gamma Delta in second place and Phi Kappa Psi in third place. Second place for the ladies was Chi Omega, while Delta Delta Delta came out with a third

place finish. The Champions for the event will be awarded trophies and champion t-shirts during the Purdue University Dance Marathon on November 22nd.

While the day may have ended with a Fraternity and Sorority being crowned Champions, we must take time to think about the real champions that came from this event. All of the proceeds

will be given to Riley hospital for Children to help fund cancer research and doctors who everyday wage war against childhood illnesses. The final amount raised by the event was over $4000 which

will help give the kids at Riley Hospital a fighting chance at having lives that are as blessed as ours in the Greek Community at Purdue University. Thank you to everyone that came out to support this great cause!

Gimlet: Purdue Gimlet Leadership

Honorary is one of the oldest organizations at Purdue. Dating

back to 1922, Gimlet was formed as an all Greek booster club for Purdue

athletics. Raising School Spirit at events and keeping Boiler Maker

tradition alive through taking care of the Victory Bell and supporting

athletic teams in any way they could. Originally Gimlet was

comprised of the most school spirited and outgoing senior

fraternity men on campus. Over the

years it has turned into some of the most influential and driven leaders

on campus from both fraternities and sororities. It is still easy to

distinguish a Gimlet by their traditional uniform of Black Sweaters

with a gold ‘G’ embroidered on them. Often recognized for their push-ups

in the North End Zone of Ross Ade stadium, or leading a fan section at

any other Purdue Athletic Event. As a unit Gimlet Leadership Honorary

pledges to improve university athletics, create a heightened spirit

of loyalty and be of general service

to Purdue at all times.

UIFI: Purdue

UIFI: Purdue was held May 11-15th at Camp Tecumseh- YMCA. Purdue is one of the few universities to host a campus based UIFI program. 90 of Purdue’s fraternity and sorority current and emerging leaders attended a 5-day values based

leadership institute. Over 60 chapters were represented. Participants experienced hands-on interaction, experiential activities, discussion time, and personal reflection time. They were given the skills to improve their leadership style, personal awareness, commitment to their fraternity or sorority, and grow to

expect values based action from

themselves and those they lead.

Panhellenic Recruitment

Update

Panhellenic Recruitment was a

great success! We welcomed 626

great women to our community!

There were 17 chapters that

participated in formal recruitment

and there average chapter size

was increased to 142. Ten

chapters are participating in

informal recruitment and have

hosted events since mid-

September. Most of these

organizations have or will extend bids in the near future.

Alicia Gilbert hails from Columbus, Ohio. She received her bachelor's degree in Sport

Management from Bowling Green State University. After working in juvenile probation, Alicia went on to obtain her Master's in Student Affairs

Administration in Higher Education. Alicia has served students in various capacities and has held

the position of Assistant Director of Student Programs and Associate Director of Inclusion & Student Engagement. These positions included

student organizations. Alicia is thrilled to join the Boilermaker family and work with the Fraternity, Sorority, and Cooperative organizations. Alicia has

a love for dogs and her favorite quote is: "Today I shall behave as if this is the last day I will be

remembered" Dr. Seuss. Fun facts about her: 1. She loves owls… a lot! 2. Alicia has been sky diving before.

with any ideas for programming or collaboration regarding risk management education and looks forward to working with you all! Go Boilermakers!

Brittany Barnes

Assistant Director of Fraternity, Sorority, and Cooperative Life

My name is Brittany Barnes, and I have the pleasure of joining Brandon, Chris, and Alicia as

the Assistant Director of Fraternity, Sorority, and Cooperative Life. I will be working primarily with

the Panhellenic Association and Multicultural Greek Council, but I wanted to share with all of you a little bit about myself.

I received my undergraduate degree at Kent State University where I was an involved member

of the sorority community and served on the Panhellenic Council. I am a recent graduate of the University of Iowa's Higher Education and Student

Affairs Master's program and served as one of the graduate assistants for Fraternity and Sorority

Life, working closely with chapter presidents, honorary societies, and officers on each of the

four governing councils. I am also actively involved with the Standing Committee for Graduate Student and New Professionals'

Ambassador program and the Novak Institute for Hazing Prevention. I also love the Miami Dolphins

and Detroit Tigers, cooking large amounts of food, and watching live theatre. I’m excited to be a Boilermaker and have appreciated a very warm

welcome from the Purdue community. Boiler up!
