NEW OFFICER TO-DOS1. Read and become familiar with your new officer position description and

Constitution/Bylaws. This will help to understand the ‘nuts and bolts’ of your position and organization – standards, processes, expectations, etc.

2. Develop a list of questions for your officer position to discuss with the outgoing officer and start a list of goals and ideas of your officer position. Make sure your goals align with the shared mission and vision of the chapter. Effective organizations are where all positional goals align with overall organizational goals.

3. Introduce yourself and discuss officer expectations with your contact within CFSL, your chapter/alumni advisor(s), and your faculty/staff advisor(s). Each of these individuals are important resources that can help you navigate through tough situations.

4. Become familiar with the Center for Fraternity & Sorority Life (CFSL) at N101 Student Center and introduce yourself to the CFSL staff and student workers. Each staff member in CFSL is here to provide guidance, advising, and coaching to all chapter and council leaders.

5. Visit your organization’s Get Involved (getinvolved.uh.edu) account and update your officer information on your organization page. Our email lists that communicate important information are created from the information located within Get Involved, so it is incredibly important that all chapter officer information is updated.

NEW OFFICER TO-DOS6. Update email accounts and change passwords. If you use an organization/officer email

account, or have organization social media accounts, make sure those passwords are communicated to the appropriate people.

7. Begin to collect all items, notes, etc. and add to transition binder/flash drive. This helps to build a historical understanding of what the position has done and what it can do in the future.

8. Verify your active and/or new member rosters are on file and updated with the Center for Fraternity & Sorority Life. New Member Rosters are due immediately after new members are pledged/brought in to the organization. Active Member Rosters are due to CFSL by December 1 (Fall) and April 15 (Spring). All forms can be found on the CFSL website at http://www.uh.edu/cfsl.

9. Change the financial account information with the bank. If you have a TDECU Bank account, officer information must be updated within ‘Get Involved’ before it can be updated with the bank.

10. Ensure your entire active membership is in your GetInvolved page. We will transition rosters to being pulled directly from GetInvolved in the coming months.
