The Demon Boys Lacrosse team has advanced into the Division 2 State Tournament Sweet 16 by way of hard fought 12-8 victory over the
Green Bears of Ottawa Hills on Saturday afternoon. The Demons will now host Wooster High School May 25 in the finals.
The Westlake Lee Burneson Middle School Girls Track & Field team had a very successful 2016 season. Several team records were set this year, and
the team finished 3rd overall in the recently expanded SWC conference.The Westlake Lee Burneson Middle School boys track team set many re-cords of their own this season. The boys finished 4th overall in the recently expanded SWC Conference. Pictured is the third place 4 x 100 relay team

Lee Burneson Middle School seventh-grade pre-engineering students brought home three top awards in the Junior Solar Sprint (JSS) race at Cleveland State University on May 18. The team of Makki Al-Saffar and Evan Wrights-man took home the title of Fastest Car from a field of 70 competing cards. Chloe Howlett and Brianna Ware’s car won the Most Innova-tive award, which was judged by NASA engineers and CSU students. LBMS also brought home the Most Spirit Award.
Junior Solar Sprint Awards
The National Garden Clubs, Inc. designates a week in June every year as National Garden Week. They ask lo-cal garden clubs to celebrate with activities that involve the community to learn more about gardening and making good choices. This year the Westlake Garden Club will celebrate Na-tional Garden Week with the following activities: Monday, June 6 at 10:30 a.m. – come to Dean’s Green-house, 3984 Porter Road to learn how to plant a vegetable garden in a container – what vegetables work best. Bring a container to plant or purchase one there. A good selection of plants will be available.
National Garden Week, June 5-11 Wednesday, June 8 at 10:30 a.m. – it is never too early to get children involved in gardening. Bring your children to Westlake Porter Public Library, 27333 Center Ridge Road to pick up a kit with everything needed to grow a plant from seed. Friday, June 10 at 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. – stop by our ta-ble at Westlake Porter Public Library, 27333 Center Ridge Road to “talk to the gardeners.” Club members will be available to answer your questions and give helpful hints on growing a beautiful garden. We hope you will join us for one, or all of the above activities to help celebrate National Garden Week.
