Introduction

ASKMI’s eSnips is a free web based application which enables you to share and add all information and documentation regarding (micro) insurance. This manual is written to help you understand how to work with ASKMI’s eSnips. The goal of ASKMI’s eSnips is to gain experience on the best way of sharing and disseminating digital knowledge on (Micro) insurance. After some time ASKMI will create its own website: www.askmi.in During the next steps you will learn how to work with eSnips and see what the possibilities of ASKMI’s eSnips are.

Step 1

Open your web browser and enter: www.esnips.com

eSnips general homepage will appear. Now you can sign in at ASKMI’s eSnips.

Step 3

To sign in at ASKMI’s eSnips you have to enter an e-mail address and a password.

Tabs First the upper part of the homepage. You can choose to enter 4 different tabs; 1. “home” (where

you are right now)

2. “folders” 3. “search” 4. “my profile” *tab 2, 3 and 4 will be explained later.

Step 6 (Tab Home)

Now the middle part of the homepage. “Latest files” In the middle part of the home page you can see what document(s) are placed recently, and; 1. The name of the file 2. In what folder it is placed 3. by whom it is added, 4. when it is added

“My private folders” At the left side of the homepage you can find all different folders that are created at ASKMI’s eSnips. When you click on one of the folders you will see the content of this folder. click i.e. on the folder “Documentation on Weather and Agricultural Insurance” (see next step) *At this moment the folders can be divided into 20 categories. You are free to suggest another way of categorizing in ASKMI’s eSnips. Please send an e-mail to: [email protected]

Step 8 (Tab Home)

After clicking at this folder the screen “My private Documentation on Weather and Agricultural Insurance folder” will appear. Now you can click i.e. at “Micro Finance Gateway; agricultural insurance in mesoamerica.pdf”

After clicking “Micro Finance Gateway; agricultural insurance in mesoamerica.pdf” you can choose to open or save the document that is stored at ASKMI’s eSnips

Step 10 (Tab Folders)

“Folders” Now the 2nd tab, folders, will be discussed.

Step 11 (Tab Folders)

In fact the tab “Folders” is exactly the same as the list of folders you have seen in step 7. The only difference is that the folders will appear in order of most recently updated. (like as in “latest files, step 6) Open the folder “Studies done by ASKMI”

As you can see, a same like screen will open as you have seen in step 8. Now we will focus on the use of “tags”

Every file uploaded in ASKMI’s eSnips has got tags. See figure 1 and 2. The use of these tags will become clear when tab “search” will be explained. How to add tags will be explained in step 22 “Upload files”

Click the tab “Search”

“Search” The screen “search by tags” will appear. Before you start searching make sure “Your Stuff” is selected

Step 16 (Search)

Now the advantage of tagging the documents will appear. When you enter i.e. “mutual” in the search bar and click the “magnifying glass” all documents in ASKMI’s eSnips with “mutual” as a tag will appear. (In this example 12 documents will appear.)

Step 17 (Tab My Profile)

“My Profile” To see and change the profile click the tab “My Profile”

“Edit my profile” This screen will appear when you click “My Profile” please take a careful look at this. Of course you are free to suggest any changes at the profile of ASKMI’s eSnips.

“My Profile” At this screen you can see the profile as it is right now.

Step 20 (Upload files)

To upload files you first have to go back to the “home tab” At the right side of the screen you will see “things you can do” Click “upload files”

“Upload files from your computer” You only have to follow to steps; 1. Choose the folder

where you want to upload a file.

Step 22 (Upload files)

In this example the ASKMI Brochure is selected. Now you only have to follow 4 steps; 1. Give the file a

name 2. Write a

description of the file

3. Tag it (tagging is very easy when you click at “suggest tags”)

4. click “Upload Files”
