Enterprise Ireland is delighted to welcome you to today’s event, as we celebrate Irish innovation and the growing commercial relationship between Ireland and Australia and New Zealand.
Ireland is viewed as a highly innovative and entrepreneurial country, and is home to the biggest names in tech, life sciences and financial services. Alongside this has emerged a domestic Irish ecosystem of companies making a global impact, delivering innovative solutions to some of our most pressing challenges. Enterprise Ireland proudly invests, supports and partners with Irish businesses through all stages of growth, supporting them to start, innovate, scale and achieve success in global markets.
While it is in many ways a tumultuous time in global trade following Britain’s withdrawal from the EU, Irish companies are increasingly prioritising trade with Australia and New Zealand. Latest figures show Enterprise Ireland backed businesses saw a 16% increase in export revenue across Australia and New Zealand, with exports reaching a record high of over $600m. Increasingly Irish companies are looking to establish a base in Australia and New Zealand, acting as a springboard into the wider Asia Pacific region. On the back of this, Enterprise Ireland has further cemented our commitment to the Australian marketspace, opening a new office in Melbourne and expanding our team on the ground.

FieldaysLast June, Enterprise Ireland showcased the Irish Advantage during a very successful trade mission to New Zealand, led by Irish Minister for Business, Enterprise, and Innovation Heather Humphreys TD. New Zealand remains a rapidly growing market for Irish businesses, with the official opening of Irish firm Evro’s new office in Auckland marking the 200th Enterprise Ireland backed company to do business in market.

Trade and Investment Mission Commencing last March, and in the interest of diversifying Irish exports, Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys TD, led 45 Enterprise Ireland client companies on an Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland trade and investment mission to Australia. Lasting eighty days, the trade mission focused on increasing Irish exports to markets outside of the UK, with a target of 50% by 2020 spurred by the imminent presence of Brexit.

Ambition APACLast May, senior executives from across Asia Pacific returned to Ireland to take part in Enterprise Ireland’s Ambition APAC Conference. Positioned as an inbound trade mission, this annual event strives to establish business connections and strengthen networks, while ultimately growing value, prosperity and lifting the GDP of the participating countries.
