I have received some very thoughtful gifts overthe years. Encouraging notes are some of the best. Thesingle greatest gift you can give someone is anintroduction to the God who gave His Son for us.Doing that face to face can be difficult, especially ifyou only know them casually. So here is a suggestion.

Invite them to our Easter musical/drama. You know itis one of the best programs anywhere. Your guests willreally enjoy it. In addition they will hear and see thestory of Christs death, burial and resurrection. Yourinvitation is even more effective if you offer to meetthem here. I dont think God put that unchurchedperson in your life just to be their acquaintance orfriend. God has an eternal goal in mind.

In recent weeks Ive been asked to speak atseveral funerals. I always consider it an honor. In mypreparation I came across a humorous and provokingquote by Mark Twain. Let us endeavor to live, thatwhen we come to die, even the undertaker will besorry. Charles Robinson and Doris Bush are two suchlives that we already miss. Our prayers continue fortheir familes.

Ive never been a part of anything ofsignificance that didnt include a great team. I havealways viewed this church as my teammates. Simplystated, we need one another to win. Most of youunderstand this. That is why you continue to serve, sacrifice, pray, give and go. I benefited from saints whoare now in heaven. Without their lifelong dedication, I

would not have been saved at Capitol Heights BaptistChurch. My children and now my grandchildren areblessed because people they never knew worked, prayed and gave at Eastmont Baptist. Our giving andfaithfulness of today will enable an unborn generationto carry the gospel long after we cant. It is a wiseperson who plants a tree under whose shade they willnever sit.

John Chancellor was settling into retirement atthe age of 67. For over forty-three years he was inbroadcast journalism. I remember him from NBCNightly News. He said there was not a cloud in the sky

at retirement. Life looked wonderful. Then camestomach cancer. First he was angry at God and himself. He made peace with both. Shortly before his death hesaid If you want to make God laugh tell him yourplans. Life is a gift, not an entitlement. More thanever Im glad Gods sovereign plans have allowed meto be your pastor.

    Ill see you Sunday,
