FOOD CLUB NAPKINS What is the Campbellsport News? It’s the local community weekly newspaper that serves the areas covered by the Campbellsport School District, which includes Campbellsport, Eden, Dundee, Dotyville, Armstrong and all points in between. It contains local news, entertainment, fea- tures on people, calendars, advertising, legal notices and more. It’s not a county paper, although some county news is included. The Campbellsport News is published every Thursday. It is printed on Wednesday mornings and then labeled and taken to four different post offices for home delivery and area newsstands. What is the history of the Campbellsport News? The Campbellsport News began printing in 1906. The idea of a newspaper in Campbellsport was realized before that though. In 1880, Dr. Louis Eidemiller established a small newspaper called the New Cassel Blitz. In 1898, the name of the newspaper was changed to the Twin Village News. Then in 1906, the newspaper was sold and the final name change with it becoming the Campbellsport News. Many changes have taken place in the newspaper over the years. For many years, the paper used linotype machines to hand-set the type and print the paper. Then it started to become more streamlined by using typed copy and shooting pages with a camera and making plates for large printing presses. Today, everything is computerized with photos being done digitally and the entire paper being put together on the computer and sent to Ripon Printers via the internet. Is the Campbellsport News a legal newspaper? The paper was certified by the state to accept legal notices for local municipalities including the Villages of Campbellsport and Eden, the townships of Auburn, Ashford, Osceola, Eden, as well as for schools, state agencies, federal agencies, law firms, and other local governmental bodies. Legal notices are published by governing authorities to notify the public of meetings, law changes, etc. What about the bad national press on newspapers? There is no question that the newspaper industry has been hit hard by the recent recession as well as new technology advance- ments. This is especially true for large newspapers. However, most newspapers are like the Campbellsport News. Eighty-seven percent of newspapers in Wisconsin are small community weekly newspapers, not big daily papers. These small papers are much different since they truly cover local news and are part of the com- munities they serve. Newspapers may change delivery method but are not going away. In fact, 83 percent of Wisconsin people read a local newspaper once a week according to a CNA survey conducted in spring of 2010. Who prints the Campbellsport News? Ripon Printers in Ripon has printed this newspaper for more than 27 years now. They do an excellent job, and we plan on print- ing there in the future. I don’t want to wait until Thursday to get my paper. Most people get their paper mailed to their homes on Thursday. Others pick up newsstand papers at several area retailers on Wednesday afternoons. These retailers include Klotz’s Piggly Wiggly, Campbellsport BP, Campbellsport Self-Serve, Ben Franklin/True Value, The Village Apothecary, Loehr’s Meat Service, Din’s Mini-Mart in Dundee, Petro Mart 45 in Waucousta, Eden Corner Express, Kewaskum BP, Kewaskum Mobile and Geidel’s Piggly Wiggly. How has the Internet affected the paper? It has had a positive effect on our local paper. The new electron- ic tools provide new avenues for us to communicate and interact with our customers. It has enabled us to provide pictures, stories, and some government records via the internet. It has also improved our ability to get full-color pages printed. Can I get the paper online? Yes. People can subscribe to our entire paper online only at www.thecampbellsportnews.com. A PDF of each page is made. On Wednesday the newspaper is available and they then log on to a specific website, type in their password and are able to read the pages online. This is called our e-edition. Most people prefer the printed edition, however. # % % # !! Frequently Asked Questions About The Campbellsport News Piggly Pages 2 and 3 correct layout_Layout 1 10/31/11 2:36 PM Page 2
