The championships, host- ed by the WACPC, were held at the La Crosse Center. Our girls did an absolutely amazing job with their performances and it showed when the awards part of the day came. The varsity dance team took a State Champion Title home yet again for their Division 2 Hip Hop routine, and third place for their Division 4 Pom routine. The team had set these placing goals earlier in the season and worked phe- nominallly hard through many team challenges to come together and achieve these goals this weekend. The team quali- fied for the state competi- tion by placing first in Division 2 hip hop and fourth in Division 4 Pom at their regional competition located in Oshkosh the weekend before. They also competed at three other competitions this season, bringing home a total of two firsts and one second place tro- phy for hip hop, and a first, third, and fifth in Pom. Also this weekend at the State Championships, the team had three individuals com- pete for a spot on the Divison 2 all-state team by performing solos. Aubrey Hart, Kara Oestreich and Karla Ciprian performed Dance Team Takes First At State Competition By Andrea Hansen Abler The Campbellsport and Eden areas are still react- ing to the news of a terri- ble car accident on Saturday, Feb. 4, that took the lives of three and injured six Campbellsport High School students. As word spread throughout the area early Saturday morning, disbe- lief was followed by tears. Many were still piecing together what exactly hap- pened and trying to figure out how to cope with such a huge loss to the commu- nities. The one-vehicle acci- dent occurred at 3:34 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, on Beechnut Road, north of Highway 67 in the Town of Ashford. According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department, the vehicle, a sport utility vehi- cle, was traveling south- bound on Beechnut Road when the driver lost con- trol and went into a field. Nine Campbellsport High School students were riding in the SUV at the time of the crash. Caitlin Scannell, 17, and Sabrina Stahl, 15, were pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers were transported to Froedtert Hospital by Flight for Life and five were transported to St. Agnes Hospital. Later, three more were transport- ed to Milwaukee hospitals. On Saturday at 8:49 p.m., Katie Berg, 16, was pronounced dead at Froedtert Hospital. Injured in the accident were Carly Ottery, 18; Haley Fricke, 18; Allie Adams, 16; Jessica Harbin, 16; Teresa Flood, 16; and Kasandra Ander- son, 17. Ottery and Fricke have been released from St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac. Harbin, Anderson, Adams and Flood are still at Milwaukee Children’s Hospital. All are expected to survive. According to the Sheriff’s office, the girls were together for a sleep over in the Campbellsport area. They drove to Fond du Lac to go to a fast food restaurant. On the way home, they stopped to TP a residence near Eden. They were on their way back to the Campbellsport residence where the sleep over was being held.
