About the LineBeing from the “Beehive State,” I have always loved honeybees. The early settlers here used the symbol of a honeybee to represent hard work and industry. They knew they would need these qualities to create a new society in a harsh mountain desert that no one else wanted. They worked hard to make this desert “blossom as the rose.” I am proud to say that I have many pioneer ancestors that were part of this effort.

While I am sure I don’t have near the hardships or work to do that the Utah pioneers did, I still respect the honeybee. I am also a gardener, and I appreciate the bees who are busy in my garden helping with my harvest. Their reputation of being hard workers, working together for a common cause, and their persistence at a task are all traits that I admire. And then, of course, there is the honey—Hard work pays off in sweet rewards!

No matter where you live, bees are an important part of our world. All of the beautiful flowers and delicious fruits and vegetables depend on their hard work. We can all be inspired by them. This collection celebrates the work of the honeybee.
