Inwoners in veral Aqualaan kla hieroor.

Francois Du Toit: Parkstraat is net so erg weens die swaarvoertuie wat dit gebruik as kort- of deurpad.

Charl Hattingh: Daar is gereeld ‘n paar verdwaaldes wat kortpad via Derdelaan en Middelweg probeer neem.

Gordon G Miller: Alles wat jy eet, drink, koop, ry, ens. kom van ‘n trok af. Hulle word van oral na oral gestuur met handgeskrewe padkaarte of selfs met ‘n GPS, so meestal

ry hulle soos hulle gesê word. Wees geduldig, netnou is die Diet Coke weer klaar.

Bulletin Hoe ervaar jy diens in restaurante en eetplekke in Tzaneen? What kind of service do you receive in restaurants in Tzaneen?

Rensce Koekemoer Vd Merwe: Dit wissel. Meeste van die eetplekke gee goeie diens.

Melanie Jane Bezuidenhout: Meeste plekke gee goeie diens.

Pieter Stolk: Het baie swak diens by Crawdaddy‘s die ander aand gehad, gewoonlik baie goed.

Jy maak vanjaar baie nuwe vriende. Jou geloofwaardigheid is amper so erg soos die matriekuitslae.

Tito Mboweni and his brother Alto will ac-quire a substantial stake in a new mining venture soon to be developed near Tzaneen.

In terms of a memorandum of understand-ing signed last week, Mboweni Brothers In-vestment Holdings (Pty) Ltd will take up a 20% interest in Ferrox Holdings (Pty) Ltd,or its various, indirectly-owned South African subsidiaries for a consideration of US$32 million (R258-million)

Ferrox is the company which will develop the Tivani iron ore project 20 km southeast of Tzaneen.

The Tivani mine will be an opencast mine producing iron ore and Ilmenite concentrate-for the production of titanium dioxide.

The life of the mine is estimated to be ap-proximately 23 years. The mine which is planned on the farm Mohlaba’s Location 567 Lt with infrastructure on the farms Keulen 669 LT and Berlyn 670 LT will mine the min-erals from three opencast pits (referred to as the West Pit, Central Pit and East Pit). The initial investment will be between R61 mil-lion and R100 million.

Tito Mboweni is currently chairman of South African-based global gold mining company, AngloGold Ashanti Limited, and non-executive chairman of Nampak Ltd, Af-rica’s largest packaging company. He is also an international advisor to Goldman Sachs, one of the world’s largest investment banks based in New York.

Mr Alto Mboweni is a chemical engineer with over ten years’ operational, process design and process modelling experience in the oil, gas and energy sectors. He has been involved, in various consulting capacities, with clients such as Petronas, Chevron and ExxonMobil.

Ferrox Chief Executive Offi cer David McAd-am said: ‘We are extremely pleased to have at our side a partner such as MBIH, with found-ers of the calibre of Tito and Alto Mboweni. We share their commitment to advance the Ti-

vani project — one of the most signifi cant deposits of its kind in South Af-rica — into a major African iron ore producer and, through this, to advance deve-lopment with-in Limpopo Province’.

Ferrox, cur-rently privately held and British Virgin Islands-registered, has a 74% indirect inter-est in the Tivani iron ore project through its 100% indirect ownership of South African subsidiary Tivani (Pty) Ltd. The company also has a 100% indirect interest in another SA subsidiary, Tzaneen Mining Projects (Pty) Limited, which has procured other pros-pecting rights with signifi cant additional re-sources in Limpopo.

Ferrox is currently evaluating the benefi cia-tion of iron ore to pig iron or steel in Lim-popo, and the value added production of titanium and vanadium.

Ferrox plans to raise US$150 million (R208 million) over the next twelve months for additional working capital to start iron ore production at Tivani, and for drilling pro-grammes to confi rm additional resources.

The Tivani project will process ten million tons per annum of iron ore, starting within the next 24 months and ramping up to full production over 36 to 48 months. At full pro-duction, approximately 2,5 million tons per annum of iron concentrate will be generated for benefi ciation within SA or for export.

If smelted, an estimated 1,5-million tons per annum of pig iron or steel will be pro-duced, in addition to titanium dioxide slag and vanadium pentoxide.

The production of approximately 500 000 to 800 000 tons per annum of ilmenite is also be-ing evaluated.

The Greater Tzaneen Municipality has set aside R270 000 for tertiary education, accord-ing to Mr Thulani Twala, the GTM’s commu-nications and marketing manager.

The announcement was made at an award giving ceremony at the Tzaneen Coun-try Lodge, organised to honour pupils and schools who performed well in the 2011 mat-ric exams.

According to Twala R100 000 will be given to the Letaba Further Education and Train-ing College (FET) to help with students’ re-gistration fees. The outstanding amount of R170 000 will be set aside to assist students who wish to att end universities, technikons

and other private institutions. Ms Dikeledi Mmetle, the mayor of the

GTM, encouraged the former matriculants to maintain the momentum as they head off to tertiary institutions to further their studies.

Mmetle said an integration plan was need-ed to help bridge the gap between village and urban schools. One such way she said was to organise visits to struggling schools, to motivate and mentor them.

verlede jaar geslaag toe hy 17 jaar oud was.

The cime rate dropped in Tzaneen and surroundings dur-ing the festive season, compared to other years — with a very positive change and good coop-eration between police and com-munity members.

So said the Cluster Commander of the SAPS in Tzaneen, General Khombo-mini Mathebula, in an interview with Yvonne Ndlovu of the Bulletin.

No cases of murder and robbery were re-ported.

Mathebula would like to thank the com-munity for their good behaviour during the festive season. She also thanks them for the helpful information they’ve divulged to the police and their commitment to help fighting crime.

“The community must carry on doing the good job. We really appreciate it. To the members of the SAPS, I would like to say

thank you for a job well done”, she said.

The General thanked the mem-bers for working without rest during the entire festive season. She said it was for a good cause,

hence the results are pleasant. “Keep it up and the community still want to see more of what we did”, she said.

• A house at the corner of Pieter Jou-bert and Awie Wes-sel Street in Aqua Park, Tzaneen, is al-leged to be occupied by single members of the SAPS. Even though nobody com-

plains about noise levels or any other form of misbehaviour by the occupants, neighbours are complaining about the neglect of the property. When Mathebula was asked about this she said she would have to verify the owner-ship of the house and she will provide the necessary informa-tion to us as soon as possible.

The house in Aqua Park that is clearly badly neglected, especially the garden, is allegedly the property of the SAPS and occupied by single

members of the SAPS. Mathebula will investigate the situation.

The community of Mulamula village outside Malamulele has vowed to take the law into their hands if the suspects accused of a spate of crime in their village are granted bail.

Daglas Baloyi (44), nicknamed Darkie, and two accomplices, Alex Ngobeni (34) and Thomas Rikhot-so (41), were arrested in connection with car theft and various other criminal offenc-es, including house breaking and theft.

Speaking during a march community leader Livingston

Enough is enough!

Mabunda said “we had enough of the suspects”.

The people march-ed to Malamulele magistrates court where the suspects were to apply for bail.

The suspects are accused of stealing three cars — a Toyota Tazz, a Toyota Cam-ry and a Toyota Cres-sida — which were later found stripped of body parts. Four water pumps also disappeared from the village, as well as cellphones.

“We demand more police visibility to root out crime in the

Baie dankie Toyota Tzaneen.

Where were traffi c offi cers?Luke Perkins, DA Councillor, Greater Tzaneen Municipality, writes: As the DA rep on the Tzaneen Roads and Transport Commit-tee, I became very concerned over the festive season about the behaviour of many drivers on our roads. Of particular concern was the att itude of driv-ers at the stop/ go points around Tzaneen. When a convoy is allowed to proceed, a stream of cars sometimes speeds up from behind, hoping to overtake a truck or a tractor before the single lane commences. This is extremely dangerous and the DA urges the public not to engage in such practices.

Equally troubling was the absence of traffi c offi cers at stop/ go points. Instead they seem to be placed wherever their chances of extracting

traffi c fi nes are maximised. They are seldom in danger zones. During 2012 I will be pressur-izing the Council and the traffi c department to deploy offi cers more eff ectively.

My bure se honde kruip weg....

May the fl eas of a thousand camels…

Verwyder vir ‘n paar uur, ja, soos u bevestig.

Ons betoog reeds langer as vyf jaar hieroor.

Claude Wheatly-straat se herstel is oortydig.

The community of Tzaneen have joined hands to launch the town’s very first feeding project — as a result of a joint venture between the Tzaneen Methodist Church, Tzaneen Ministers Fraternal and the Tzaneen Community Forum.

The project started last year with only two people coming regularly for meals daily (and many others occasionally). Since then it has grown to serve hot meals to twelve people Mondays to Thursdays and on Fridays 25 families collect food parcels.

Churches send people to the Methodist Church. A data base

of the recipients is kept and the church people attempt to visit their “clients” at their place of residence.

The Tzaneen community forum has come up with meal tickets which can be sold to congrega-tions at R5 per meal and to be given to beggars; rather than giv-ing them money which is often used for alcohol.

In addition to giving people food the project also runs a Bible study every Friday. The next goal is to grow the project fur-ther in 2012, and also to establish a vegetable garden.

Feeding project in Tzaneen is a success

The festive season is a very busy time with lots of motorists travelling all over Limpopo.

The Provincial Traffic Chief in Tzaneen, Mr M S Machete, told Bulletin’s Yvonne Ndlovu that looking at the period from 1 December to 31 December 2011 the traffic departments in Limpopo and Tzaneen in particular have worked pretty well compared to last year.

He added that there were three or four fa-talities last year, while this year only one acci-dent occurred at Crystal on the R71 between Tzaneen and Polokwane.

Machete said “local motorists cooperated very well with us, while outsiders didn’t”.

“Many GP and MP vehicles were involved in minor accidents. Even though those acci-dents were minor, it showed how ignorant and disobedient the visitors were.”

Machete indicated that “there were a lot of drink and drive offenses in Tzaneen and the province as a whole”.

Machete was asked about the Georges Valley road that has been resurfaced three months ago but is still without lines. He said he couldn’t tell why the road is still without lines at this point of time.

He expressed concern about the GVroad. “That is why we deploy many traffic officers to monitor Georges Valley. We are trying to create an awareness of the dangers on that route,” Machete said.

Motorists from GP, MP are bad

For most of the youth who have never set foot in jail, commit-ting crime does not come with much hes-itancy — many over-look the consequenc-es that come with it, until they find out the hard way when they are arrested.

The same applied to Rhulani Mashimbye the ambassador for the newly established youth policing forum in Giyani.

Speaking at the launch of the new forum in Giyani, Mashimbye, the for-mer jail bird who has spent years behind bars for various of-fences, warned the youth against crime, saying it would de-stroy their future.

According to Gi-yani police spokes-person insp Thomas Makhubele, the new forum aims to en-courage the youth to avoid crime.

Chaos nearly broke out at Chamandu High School at Mapuve village outside Giyani when parents stormed into the principal’s office to hand over a notice to fire him.

The angry parents went to the school to have a meeting with the school manage-ment board. During this meeting the princi-pal, Mr Thomas Manganyi, was to be given a memorandum with their grievances.

However, after the principal did not show up to meet them, they decided to go en masse to his office to present it to him. This nearly ended in a scuffle when the principal was advised not to accept the notice by his col-leagues. A compromise was then reached that the principal would receive a copy of it while the original would be sent to the cir-cuit office.

This comes after the school failed to im-prove performance to the parents’ satisfac-tion, despite warnings by parents in January 2011. “We told them to improve the results and nothing changed. Now we want the principal gone,” said Mr Eric Makondo, a leader in the community.

The key issues are that the principal should “go immediately,” and that the old

SGB should be disbanded and a new one be elected to lead the school. The community alleged that the teachers are not disciplined under the current principal.

“They come to classes at will and do not com-mit themselves to teaching our kids,” he said. According to him, thirty people monitored the school during the course of last year. “Our findings confirmed exactly what the learners had been telling us about teachers coming late and teaching at will,” he said.

However, other parents felt that all the teachers should go, because of their lack of commitment. “The poor principal has little to do if these teachers do not have discipline themselves – all of them should go,” said Ms Anna Ngobeni one of the parents.

The learners were busy seeking “Re-moves,” so they

could go elsewhere for better education. Ma-kondo managed to stop them for the dura-tion of the process of removing the principal. He also averted what could have been a clash between the police and the learners, when some learners closed the gate against the po-lice vans that were streaming in to control the situation at the school.

The school achieved a 17% pass rate in 2010, and improved to 38% in last year’s re-sults.

Lesson eight at Afsim is a test of commitment and memory after watching the K53 DVD from the previous lesson, the learner driver now gets to experience test day.

The lesson starts off the lesson with an in-door pre-trip inspection on the simulator.

Once the learner has completed the inspec-tion he or she can begin driving.

From here onwards the learner driver has to drive as though he or she is now doing their driver’s license test.

The instructor will be assess throughout the lesson to pin point if there are any areas that the learner driver still struggles with. If present the instructor will then let the learner

driver run the obstacle point until it is done perfectly right.

Afsim’s test of commitment

A head-on collision between a bakkie and a truck on the road between Makhado and Tzaneen has left one person dead and another person with minor injuries. This was the worst accident in our area during the December festive season. The driver of the bakkie who was partly entrapped, had suffered very traumatic and fatal injuries. Unfortunately he was declared deceased on the scene. The jaws of life and other hydraulic equipment were needed to be used to get the body removed

from the vehicle. The driver of the truck had suffered minor cuts and bruises.

The only way that you are going to stick to your goal this year is to make it a challenge. Challenge yourself and your friends to see who can be the leanest and fittest within three months, and the winner takes all. You have to start making exercise fun, but at the same time it’s good to put a little bit

of pressure on yourself. We all know that you perform much better under pressure. So do whatever it takes to get your body in shape. Remember that this is the only body you have. If you don’t look after it, it’s not go-ing to look after you. Be wise and stay fit and healthy!

This week’s fitness tipEttienne van Wyngaardt (Fitness specialist)

vernietigingswerk reeds deur navorsers uitgelig is.— Louis Roux

voorkom.

The future looks rosy for Giyani Hot Spurs aft er their convincing 2-1 win over FC Basel of Thohoyandou at the Giyani Stadium in their Vodacom league clash over the weekend.

Aft er a shaky start the chance fi nally came for Giyani Hot Spurs when FC Basel’s defender Donald Sithole handled the ball that was clearly going into the net. A penalty was awarded and Sithole was sent off the fi eld.

However, Hot Spurs failed to score the penalty. They made up for it a few minutes later by scoring the fi rst goal just seconds before halft ime.

Their joy was short lived when wounded FC Basel played aggres-sively, putt ing Hot Spurs back on their defence. It did not take long before Phumudzo Ramutsindela breached their defence and shot straight into the net, levelling the score.

Again Hot Spurs rescued themselves from an awkward situation by scoring their second goal through Hlayisani Mlambu. This rejuve-nated the supporters’ mood on the grandstand, who were becoming agitated.

Giyani Hot Spurs continued the pressure and forced FC Basel to incur another penalty. This time it was taken by Javel Ndlovu who shot straight into the hands of the goalkeeper. His miss was however forgiven since the Hot Spurs were leading and the supporters did not whine much about it.

The match ended with Hot Spurs winning 2-1. The loss could see FC Basel dropping from their current tenth position in the Vodacom league.

Meanwhile, the win has boosted Hot Spurs’ position from eighth to third on the log, says coach Neil Twala.

The expanded Tri-Nations tournament has been la-belled ‘The Rugby Championship’ as Argentina joins New Zealand, Australia and South Africa for 2012.

The Pumas will face the Springboks on the opening day of the tournament with Australia playing against New Zealand. Each side will play six Tests, facing the other three participants both home and away.

Argentina’s fi rst Test on home soil is on August 25 against the Boks with the venue yet to be confi rmed. And for CEO of SANZAR Greg Peters, the new tourna-ment provides an exciting opportunity to re-invigorate the already competitive competition.

“The Rugby Championship is an annual contest be-tween the ‘best-of-the-best’ in world rugby - nations who have won six of the seven Rugby World Cups,” said Peters. “The regular participation of Argentina at a higher level is long overdue and we are excited about their inclusion in The Rugby Championship.

“Playing in the Championship will have signifi cant benefi ts for Argentinean rugby as a whole and will

bring new energy to the jewel in the crown of SANZAR. The Pumas, as they showed at the recent Rugby World Cup, play an exciting and diff erent brand of rugby to the other three teams, which will defi nitely add a new dimension.”

For the President of the Unión Argentina de Rugby (UAR) Luis Castillo the announcement signifi es a his-toric moment for rugby in Argentina. And for South African Rugby Union CEO Jurie Roux, the new tour-nament will produce a more balanced distribution of travel - something which the Springboks have suff ered from in the past.

“This is a signifi cant moment in the history of Sou-thern Hemisphere rugby and marks the launching pad to a dramatically changed landscape,” Roux said.

“It will add a new fl avour and dimension to SANZAR rugby and off ers the prospect of promoting rugby in other South American nations. It also ensures a more logical and balanced Championship with fi xtures and travel evened out across the region,” he added.
