Onequarterinchseamallowanceisincludedonallpatternpieces.Ifyouaresergingorusingotherbindingmethods,youcanreducethepatternsizebeforecuttingortrimseamallowanceifdesired.Personally,fordiapers,Ineverdothis.Thelittleextrafabric

doesNOTaffectthediaperandneverbotherwithremovingit.Feelfreetodoasyouwish,butdonotfeelyouMUSTremovetheseamallowance.

Printandcutouttheneededpatternpieces.Matchalignmentlinesandtapepagestogether.

Becarefultopositionstretchoronewaydesignfabricswithregardtotheproperdirectionofthestretchordesigntoassureaproperfitandnicelookingdesign.

1. IfinditeasiertostitchALLinnersoakerlayerstogetherFIRSTbeforebeginningassemblyofactualdiaper.ItmakesassemblyMUCHsimplerandfaster.

a. Justtakeallyourinnersoakerfabriclayersandstackthemtogetherinwhateverorderyoudesire.Stitchthemtogethersecurelyusingastandardstraightstitch.

i. BesuretostitchsothelayersdonotcomeapartlaterduringthewashANDsotheycannottwistorturnduringthewashasthiscanmakethediaperveryuncomfortabletowear.

2. Makesureyouhaveplentyofroom;whenlaidoutflat,thisdiaperisverywide,andhavinganiceclearandopenareatoworkwillmakeassemblysomuchnicer.

3. Becarefulwhenchoosingtheamountofelastictouse.Toomuchandthediaperwillbetoolooseandlikelytoleak.Toolittleandthediaperwillbetightanduncomfortable.YoucanalwaysPINtheelasticinwithsafetypinsFIRSTtotest,thenwhenyouarehappywiththestretch,sewthemdown.DontforgettoMEASUREtheamountofelasticyouusedANDwriteitdownonyourpatternsothatnexttimeyouwillnotneedtodothisextrastepagain.

tapesinsteadoftwo). PositionandsecuretheVelcrolaundrytabsontherightsideofouterdiaperlayerwithin

markings,facingout.Stitchinplace. PositionandsecurethefrontVelcrostrip(orstripsifusing2tape)ontherightsideof

theouterdiaperlayerwithinmarkings,facingout.Stitchinplace. Stacklayersoneontopoftheotherasfollows:

1. Placewaterprooflayerdownfirst2. ThenplaceFashionfabric(theoutermostfabric)ontopofwaterprooflayer

(rightsidefacingwaterprooflayer)3. Thenplacethebottomlayer(theonethatwillbenexttobabysskin)rightside

downontopofFashionfabric.4. Nowplacesewninnerabsorbentlayersontopofthestack.

PositionthebacktobackVelcrosidetabsontopofrightsideofouterlayerwithinmarkings,roundededgesfacinginwardandhooksidesfacingup.

Stitchalongseamlinetosecureinplace.Thenstitchalongperimeterinchawayfromedgeoffabricaroundentirediaper.REMEMBERtoleavetheholeinfrontsoyoucanturnthediaperinsideout.

Foreachpieceofelastic,lineupthemarkingononeendoftheelasticwiththeplacementmarkingonthepatternpiece.Elasticshouldbepositionedontheouteredgeofthediaperperimeter,withintheseamallowance.

o Tackdowntheelasticendbysewingafewstitchesontopofthemarkingwithazigzagstitch.Withstitchlengthsetclosetozero.Useyourmachinesreversestitchtoreinforcethestitch.

o Repeattheprocessontheotherendsofeachelasticpiece.DONOTSEWTHEENTIRELENGTHOFELASTICDOWNTOTHEDIAPER.

Turndiaperinsideoutthroughtheholeyouleftatthefrontofthediaper.Smoothoutandflattenallcorners.

Topstitcharoundperimeterofthediaper.o Whenyoureacheachelasticpiece,stopwiththeneedledown.

Raisethepresserfoot,withoutliftingtheneedleandturnthefabricsothattheelasticishorizontaltoyou.

Stitchdowntwoorthreestitchestotheveryedgeofthediaper. Usethebackstitchtoretracebackuptotheseamline.Stopwiththe

needledown. Turnfabricbacktoverticaldirectionandpullelastictightbygrabbing

eachendatthetackingpoint. Sewalongsidetheelasticveryslowly,keepingtheelasticpulledtight.

Avoidsewingontopoftheelastic.Ifyoudothisproperly,theelasticwillbeinsideacasingandwillNOThaveANYstitchesinitexceptatthetackingpoints.

Whentheendisreached,repeatstep1and2,thenturnfabricbacktoverticalandcontinuestitchingperimeter.

o Continuesewingaroundperimeterofdiaperfollowingaboveinstructionsforsewingaroundeachelasticcasinguntilyoureachfrontofdiaperwhereopeningislocated.

Foldseamallowanceunderatopeningandtopstitchtheopeningclosedwhilesewingdiaperperimeter.

Continueuntilentireperimeterofdiaperhasbeentopstitched.
