About the Vessel Design Portfolio

BMT Designers & Planners produced our first Vessel Design Portfolio in 2014, drawing on the complete range of experience within the firm and throughout the BMT Group of companies in delivering high-performance, high-value designs for a wide variety of missions and operating environments.

As the year progressed, and copies of the portfolio found their way into the hands of vessel owners, operators, and shipbuilders, it became apparent that we had struck a chord. Many readers have remarked how helpful the portfolio was in educating them about how BMT is engaged in markets they previously didn’t realize.

The strong, positive response encouraged us to make the Vessel Design Portfolio an annual production, each year reflecting the ever-growing number of concept and built designs we have and are capable of delivering for our customers.

The Requirements

BMT was contracted by Syncrude Canada Ltd to carry out services that would improve safety and mitigate the risk of losses in the event of an incident.

Outcome

BMT provided the following services related to the small aluminum workboats operating on the tailings ponds at the Syncrude site:

• BMT recommended modifications to the existing workboats to prevent loss of assets when below deck compartments were damaged and flooded

• BMT performed inclining tests on the workboats and produced static intact and damaged stability booklets

• BMT produced General Arrangement drawings for the workboats
