HEALTH AND SAFETY INFORMATION. DEHYDRATION ALERT
We are pleased to report that David Akerstein is now fine.
But on Saturday he was very unwell and collapsed, due to DEHYDRATION.
This was determined in hospital later in the day.
The Ambulance and Hatzolah were called, as is our standard procedure.
And as we all know, this is very frightening.
David would like all of our members to be very mindful of what he experienced.
It was our first warm day of the season, and David had practised in the morning without sufficient fluids on Friday
and Saturday.
By lunch time David suffered these ill effects.
Dehydration AND perspiring heavily can lead to serious and life-threatening complications, including:
PLEASE
Start practice or ANY GAME hydrated, and continue drinking throughout the game.
Be aware dehydration in most instances at the Club results in a FALL.
This in itself raises further complications.
USE A BOTTLE rather than a Cup. These are not sufficient.
ASSIST ANYONE IN DISTRESS and get help.
Call a Safety Officer.
Call the Ambulance on 112 and Hatzolah on 9527 5111
Stay with the patient, and respond to the questions from the Emergency teams
Call to someone to get the Defibrillator
PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ATTEND THE IMPORTANT TALK ON “FALLS PREVENTION”
from 9 -10am On THURSDAY OCT 12.
Thank you to all of the Safety Team and Members who assisted on Saturday.
It was a great Emergency Response.
SAFETY TRAINING ON “PREVENTING FALLS”
THURSDAY OCT 12, from 9 - 10am
Members,
Our two biggest Safety Incidents at the club are:
1. Falls
2. Dehydration (which usually leads to a fall, and significant injury as a result).
So we have arranged this Learn how to fall-proof yourself! talk, to be run by RDNS Experts.
It is before practice, as many of us are already there at that time.
Can you please make every effort to attend, and be on time at 9am. (not the usual 9.30am).
Did you know that a third of people over 65 experience a fall at least once per year?
And half of these are in and around the home.
In this session we will learn why we fall and what steps to take to reduce the risk of falling.
They will demo Strength & Balance Exercises.
And how to get up if you have a fall.
We will also take this opportunity to have a demonstration of the DEFIBRILLATOR Machine.
We know that most of us have seen this many times before.
IN AN EMERGENCY, we are very likely to be distressed and confused about what to do.
So if you have seen the demonstration before, it bears seeing this again.
There seriously aren’t enough times you can do so.
Any of your family members or friends are very welcome to attend.

CARRUM BOWLING CLUB PARKING RESTRICTIONSYour club will be playing Carrum Bowling Club at Carrum over the current Pennant season and I am writing to inform
you about the parking conditions at Carrum Bowls Club.
The Frankston Council has deemed Keast Park parking area as a paid area and has provided a very limited number of
passes to the Carrum Bowls Club. This restriction means that we are able to only issue visiting teams with one parking
permit per rink valid for the day of play. Passes will be provided to your Team Manager for distribution.
When playing at Carrum Bowling Club, I suggest that you advise your members to car pool 4 players to a car and on
Saturdays arrive at 12pm or earlier, or they will have to park in the metered bays and pay the appropriate parking fee.
Alternatively parking on Nepean Hwy north of our Club is free.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused but unfortunately this situation is beyond the control of the Carrum
Bowling Club.
We look forward to an excellent bowls season and to making you and your members feel very welcome when visiting
our club.
Kind Regards
Jennifer Ellis
Secretary & CCO Carrum Bowling Club

SPONSORS
Our valued Sponsors are a very important part of our Club community with Sponsors contributing about 10% of our
annual revenue. Can we ask that you please be aware of who our Sponsors are, by checking in the Fixture Book or on
our website and on the board in the Clubroom. Whenever possible, please support them and make it known to them
that you are a member of the Armadale Bowls Club.
Also, if you have an idea or suggestion as to who could be approached as a possible Sponsor, please advise Jack Cooper,
Robyne Schwarz or Rob Millingen, who will follow up the lead. We all have wide circles of contacts
who could provide a source of new Sponsors
In the coming months, a member of the sponsorship committee may contact you personally to ask if you can assist by
providing the name of a company or service provider who might be a potential sponsor. Your assistance will be

JOKES OF THE WEEK
1955 - 62 Years Ago....Comments made in the year 1955!
I'm afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the door to a whole lot of foreign business.
Thank goodness I won't live to see the day when the Governmenttakes half our income in taxes.
I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best people togovernment.
The fast food restaurant is convenient for a quick meal, but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on
There is no sense going on short trips anymore for a weekend. It costs nearly $2.00 a night to stay in a motel.
