Landscaping The concreting works around the new MOD 10 will continue over the holidays and start in the second week. The area will most likely be fenced off whilst the concreting cures and hoping this will be ready by Monday October 8th. Holiday Program Ben and Trevor and the OOSHC staff have prepared a fabulous 2 week program and I am sure all the children will once again enjoy these holiday activities. I will be in school in the second week and will pop in and see all the children then. Term Break Wishing all of my staff, children and our Armadale families a wonderful 2 weeks holiday. Enjoy the time spent together, the sleep ins in the mornings and the opportunities to have some fun and enjoy the spring weather. Relax, rejuvenate and get ready for a very busy and exciting Term 4. I look forward to seeing all the children on Monday 8th October for the start of term 4. Warm regards

Rochelle Cukier Principal STUDENT BANKING This week a Bronze Dollarmites Certificate is awarded to Angus Forsyth for making 10 deposits this year.

Well done Angus! There are two new reward items available in Term 4 - the Slushie Maker Cup and Zoom Flying Disc. Remember Student Banking will resume in Term 4 on Tuesday 9 October. Alison Crone School Banking Coordinator

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Yet another busy and exciting week for our Armadale students. As discussed in a pre-vious entry, if our young learners are to grow, then they need to be aware of what it is they are learning and the purpose. Choice is significant as it promotes willingness and participation in real decision making. Asking students about themselves as learners, we learn about ways to best engage them. We signal that what they say is important and that we are interested in working with them. We don’t want our students to work for us. We don’t want them to be proud of their efforts because we are proud of them. We want our students to be the drivers of their learning. We want them to be

willing and enthusiastic in their pursuit to learn. We refer to this as learner agency. We are proud of our school and I would like to highlight and acknowledge evidence of learner agency evident this week.

FUN RUN Our Year 6 House Captains were invited to be involved in the planning of our upcom-ing Fun Run. The students, along with a group of parents and teachers shared their thoughts and insights into how we can tweak the event so that we can make it even better. I would like to acknowledge the way our students, parents and teachers worked together to get preparations underway. The format for this year’s Fun Run will be slightly different to previous years but we are so excited that our students will have been involved in the shaping of the event.

FRANKY AND 1Z’s LOLLY STALL Frankie had been keen to introduce Lego and coding units into the school. He had an idea and with the guidance and support of his classroom teacher, Allira, Frankie and his class organised a lolly stall. Together, they all planned and packed the lolly bags and determined the cost of each bag. The lolly stall ran as scheduled on Thursday and the class raised over $400. This has inspired our learners to be mathematicians, writ-ers and researchers.

WRITING PILOT Our Year 1 & 2 teachers will be participating in a project that is supported by Mel-bourne University and initiated by the company, ‘scribe’. The aim of our participation is to build our pedagogical knowledge to build better writers and support our young learners to self-assess as writers. I would like to acknowledge the commitment of our staff in their desire and action to be learners themselves. We look forward to working with Sam Nicolaides next term and sharing our learnings with you.

Italiano- Le Notizie Italian Day at Armadale Primary School WOW what an amazing day it was. We could not put on such a wonderful day without the help of some super

hardworking parents including:

Steph D (Franky, 1Z) for organising the bread baking activity and the donation of tomatoes from Organically Grown.

Kim Fleetwood (Maddie 5/6B) for donating watermelon and rockmelon for fruit salad.

Rebecca Bond (Sophie 0N, Lachie 3/4J, Lucy 3/4E and Charlotte 5/6T) for coordinating parent helpers and completing the

parent rosters.

Caz Hagedorn (Angus 2E and Hannah 1Z) for organising the harvesting/bruschetta activity set up and coordinating parent

helpers.

All other parents who helped with the ristorante, bread making, harvesting/bruschetta activities and cleaning up.

Finally all parents and families who assisted or supported us by attending our special assembly, or helped in any other way.

A special thanks also goes to all APS staff for embracing Italian language learning and culture, especially Pippa and Jocelyn for helping plan the Harvesting/Bruschetta activities, and Peter for collecting many kgs of pomodori, Pina, Rosa, Donna and Jane for cooking and preparing the delicious Italian fare enjoyed by all staff and lastly thank you to Jane for preparing stickers for each child. Students have been reflecting on the day and have expressed how much they enjoyed spending time with their buddy and eating the delicious bruschetta, insalata and macedonia in the ‘Ristorante Armadale’. Thankyou Armadale Community for helping make Italian Day such a great success. Vita Vampatella Italian Language Co-ordinator [email protected]

Recycling soft plastics at APS Our soft plastic recycling was collected by REDCYCLE http://www.redcycle.net.au/ this week. Throughout the term we store all our soft plastics under the School. Look how much plastic waste we reduced going to landfill!

WHERE DOES ALL THE PLASTIC PACKAGING GO? The collected plastic is returned to RED Group’s facility for initial pro-cessing then delivered to Australian manufacturer Replas where it can be recycled into outdoor furniture , bollards and oth-er products. Please read the following page about what can go into the soft plastic recycling bins. Families are welcome to drop off their soft plastics in their child's classroom soft plastic bin or place items in the ‘Redcycle’ bin located in the staff resource room.

Please read the following page for more information about what can and can’t be put into the soft plastic recycling bins.

The Arts

Term 3, Week 10

Our school has a story that we can discover and contribute to through The Arts

Thank you 1K and Prep N for your fantastic team work making Italian paper chains to decorate the school for Italian day. Your enthusiasm and collaboration skills were great to observe!

Donations/Items required for next term: clean foam trays, from fruit/vegetable or meat items, to be used for printing any coloured wool for weaving

Art fundraising: Crazy Camel art orders Thank you for placing orders for your child’s work. The money raised will contribute to the School’s PFA fundraising projects. Thank you to the parents who are collating all the orders. For parents attending the first PFA meeting next term there will be a final count required before the orders are sent to the

printers. If you can help after the PFA meeting that would be greatly appreciated!

Junior and Senior Singing Group: Junior and Senior Singing Group rehearsals will recommence in Term 4 on Tuesday 16th October i.e. the second week back.

Upcoming events: Prep – Grade 2 Drama Toolbox workshops: During Enviroweek (Oct 22 – 28) each class will participate in a hands-on puppet workshop exploring the well known indigenous story, ‘Tiddalick’ the frog. The cost p/child is $13.50. A compass alert will be sent out next term.

What’s on in the holidays: If you haven’t seen the MOMA exhibition already it’s a great opportunity to see some significant artworks before they head back to NYC. The exhibition at the NGV closes on 7 October.

Have a great holiday, perhaps with a sprinkling of MUSIC, ART, DANCE, DRAMA AND MEDIA!
