crockery cookers have 3 settings - high, medium, and keep warm.

Don't use the "keep warm" setting instead of the"cooking" settings for extended periods. Some-times the high setting will cause overcooking andyou will lose the benefits of using a slow cooker. The high setting is best used to bring food up toa safe temperature quickly before beginning slowcooking at the "medium" or "normal" setting. Ifyour Crock-Pot is causing liquids to boil, lower thesetting or meat will become dry and tough.

. . .”Ring”went up to $130,000 euros, then pacingitself to $450,000. Several bouts oflaughter were heard during the biddingas seen through the auction house’s livewebsite. Right before the hammer fell at630,000 euros someone pushed it to640,000 which produced more laughter.

The sale was held Sunday to honor the250th anniversary of Joséphine’s birth, according to reports. The ring was de-scribed as modest by the auction housefrom someone who had not yet acquiredgreat wealth and power. However, it gaina lot of international interest based on itshistorical significance.

Empress Joséphine was 32 years old,six years older than Napoleon, and awidow with a son and daughter at thetime of their marriage on March 9, 1796.According to Napoleon's memoirs writ-ten at St. Helena, he met Josephinewhen her son Eugene came to ask himfor the right to keep his father's sword.

Napoleon said yes, and Josephine in-

vited him to her apartment in Paris to

thank him. Napoleon was immediately

smitten, and within the first couple

months of their relationship had fallen

completely in love with her. He wrote

about this in his memoirs:"Everyoneknows the extreme grace of the EmpressJosephine and her sweet and attractivemanners. The acquaintance soon be-came intimate and tender, and it was notlong before we married."

The marriage didn't last, but "Josephine

continued to treasure the ring and gave it

to her daughter Hortense, later Queen of

Holland, through whom it came down to

her son, Napoleon III and his wife Em-

press Eugene.

Napoleon III, the last monarch of France,

was the nephew and heir of Napoleon. It

was sold during Sunday’s auction of the

“Collection of Prince Victor Napoleon

and Princess Clementine of Belgium.”
