Our Mission: Camperdown College will provide exemplary teaching and learning programs within excellent facilities which foster school pride,
aspiration and persistence to achieve high levels of learning for all students.
From the Principal’s Desk…
Thank you to our school community,
particularly our upper primary and
Senior Campus students, for the
thoughtful feedback provided to
School Council during the scheduled
review of our Bullying and
Harassment Policy. The policy has
been rewritten to make it as user
friendly as possible and the
suggestions from students were
particularly helpful in this regard. School Council ratified
the new policy at the June meeting and it is published in this
newsletter for your interest and future reference.
Our newest staff member Lauren White commenced work
last week as our part-time Alumni and Marketing Officer.
Lauren joined the Corangamite Trade Training Cluster
introductory bus tour last Thursday which saw Year 9
students and staff from all cluster schools (Camperdown
College, Cobden Technical School, Derrinallum College,
Hampden Specialist School, Terang College and Timboon
P12 School) visit the Camperdown, Cobden and Timboon
training facilities and learn about all of the vocational
certificates on offer through the cluster next year. Lauren
will assist us in the development of strategies to promote our
Salon Assistant and Retail Cosmetics certificates to
prospective students from within and beyond the cluster, and
also to promote our hair and beauty training facilities to
potential users. Any questions or suggestions regarding our
certificates or courses can be directed to myself, Sue
Maskell or Lauren White through the Senior Campus Office.
School Council has recently endorsed the purchase of a
digital sign to be positioned on the Errey Street/Cobden
Road corner of the Senior Campus. This signage will
enable the promotion and celebration of Camperdown
College events and achievements and also the opportunities
available to Corangamite Shire students through the joint
schools Corangamite Trade Training Cluster. Installation is
expected to occur this term. Thank you to our school
community for the wonderful support of Parents & Friends
fundraising activities over the past year, enabling our P&F
to make a significant contribution towards the purchase of
the new sign.
This week we have again seen structured transition events
taking place at each campus, with the incoming 2020 Year
7 students attending on Tuesday to participate in Health and
PE classes, and all of the children from both kindergartens
attending on Thursday for tailored Maths and Art lessons.
Last week our Library Officer Gabrielle Bellman visited
Banana Splits Childcare Centre to read to the children and
will do the same at Camperdown Kindergarten (Baranbali)
on Wednesday 7th August. These activities sit within an
extensive transition program that takes place over Terms
2, 3 and 4 and intended to familiarise the kindergarten and
Year 6 students with the people, places and opportunities
that make up Camperdown College. The publicised due
date for Year 7 enrolments has now passed and the 2020
Prep enrolments are due by next Friday 2nd August.
The Department of Education Parent Opinion Survey is
presently underway and again will be completed online by
a randomly generated sample of College families. The
feedback from these surveys, along with the Staff Survey
and Year 4 – 12 Attitudes to School Survey, is very
helpful as an annual pulse-check and to identify
opportunities for future work. Thank you in advance if you
have been selected to participate!
Our new Senior Campus guitar tutor, Jacob West, visited
the school last Friday to meet with potential students.
Jacob is intending to start delivering private lessons at the
Senior Campus each Friday, providing we have sufficient
interest. Students must collect and return a permission
form to the office this week so that numbers can be
confirmed. Congratulations to our Year 11 students who
commenced Deb rehearsals last week. We are all looking
forward to celebrating their efforts with them at the
Debutante Ball on Friday 23rd August. Meanwhile our
Junior Campus Victorian State Schools Spectacular dance
rehearsals continue and it is great to see the popular after
school Sporting Schools program back on the agenda,
commencing in week 3 with softball.
A Student Free Day in week 5, on Thursday 15th August,
will see all teachers and Education Support staff undertake
Department of Education’s Cultural Understanding and
Sensitivity Training. The CUST training will be delivered
by the Department’s Koorie Education personnel and we
look forward to increasing our collective understanding of
local Aboriginal history and perspectives.
Thank you to all members of the school community who
have begun selling tickets for our Camperdown College
Major Raffle. The prizes have attracted a great deal of
interest and we are grateful for your enthusiastic support
of the raffle.

State Cross Country:
Five students qualified to participate in the State Cross Country held in Bundoora last Thursday. Thank you to
the parents/siblings who made the long trip in order to support our students. Riley Helmore placed a credible
16th in a very impressive performance and can now apply to be part of the Australian competition. Bailey
McDonald, Charlie Tickner, Harry Sumner and Daniel Nelson all placed in the 60-80 range which is a
wonderful achievement.
Student Progress:
All parents would have received their child’s reports during the last week of Term 2. If there is any aspect of
the report that you would like to follow up on please feel free to make contact. Parent Teacher Interviews will
be conducted during week 9 of this term but please don’t hesitate to make contact with teachers before this if you have any concerns.
Regular progress information about your child is available on Compass. Just a reminder that for students in Year 7 – 10, you are able
to see the learning cycle that your child is working on in each of their subjects. In week five of each term, mid-term comments are
posted which outline how your child is progressing and what their next steps are for learning. For VCE/VCAL students, mid-cycle
comments are added mid-way through each outcome and performance results are added at the end of the outcome.
Work Experience:
The Year 10 students have participated in work experience this week. We have had the majority of students placed locally in a range
of businesses and we thank these businesses for the support of our program. Students were looking forward to their time in the
workforce and we trust that the students will enjoy this opportunity to assist their career education.
Year 6 to 7 Transition:
Our Year 6 to 7 transition program continues this term. This week the students participated in Health and Physical Education lessons.
Mr Van and Miss Lee conducted these fast paced sessions and students enjoyed interacting and getting to know each other.
Examination Navigator:
Students studying Year 12 subjects have been given a very important piece of documentation – VCE Exams Navigator 2019. This
booklet provides information on: VCAA rules, approved materials and equipment, examination timetables and special provision. It is
vital that students/parents familiarise themselves with the content.
Celebration Assembly:
Our Celebration Assembly at the end of last term opened and closed with a musical performance from Otto Leonard-Pekin, Tim
Fagan, Mathew Pineo and Daniel Nelson. Continuing on from their performances on the Year 7 Open Night, the boys rehearsed over
lunch times to add more songs to their repertoire. They performed Seven Nation Army and Old Town Road and wooed all present with
their skills.

Welcome back to Term 3! It has been very pleasing to see how well all our students have settled back into the
routine of school life following the school holidays. This term we welcome Mrs Honor Rahles-Rahbula as she
steps into Year 1/2T whilst Mrs Tolland and her family enjoy a well-earned rest touring around Australia.
Students of the Term and 100% Attendance:

Reports:
All students were given a copy of their Semester 1 Report at the end of last term and an electronic version is also available on
Compass. If there is any aspect of the report that you would like to follow up on, feel free to make contact with your child’s class
teacher through the Junior Campus Office. If you haven’t done so already please take the time to discuss your child’s progress with
them and set an achievable goal/s for this term for future improvement. The partnership between home and school is important if our
young people are to achieve even better outcomes, academically, socially, creatively and physically. Later this term, all families will
have the opportunity to participate in Parent Teacher Interviews.
Transition:
Our Kindergarten children visited us today, participating in a Maths session in the Prep Room and an Art session in the Art Room.
This concludes our Kindergarten transition visits. If you know of any families who are considering enrolling their child in Prep at
Camperdown College in 2020, please invite them to make contact with the school as Prep enrolments close next Friday 2nd August.
Our Year 6 to 7 transition sessions continued this week with Year 6 students experiencing Health and PE classes. Year 6 students will
visit the Senior Campus again in week 4 to participate in Food Technology and English classes.
100 Days of School:
It is hard to believe that next Wednesday 31st July marks a huge milestone for our Prep students who will celebrate 100 days of
school! Students will be participating in numerous activities associated with the numeral 100 as well as marking the occasion with a
Prep party lunch. All Prep families are invited to come along and help the students celebrate this special occasion in the Prep Room
from 11.10am – 1pm.
Scholastic Book Fair:
A reminder that our Scholastic Book Fair commences tomorrow and continues next week. Mrs Uebergang has set up the display,
ready for families to come in and browse the wide selection of books that are available for purchase. The books are good quality
literature and reasonably priced. For every purchase made, we receive a percentage of the sale. See page 6 for exact opening days and

Sporting Schools Program:
Our Sporting Schools program will commence next Wednesday 31st July. Coordinator, Sally Sutterby, has organised for students to
participate in a softball program for Term 3. Year 11 student, Charlie Tickner will assist Sally each week with the program. The
Sporting Schools program is an extremely popular activity and with many names on the waiting list, it is an expectation that students
attend each week, unless they are absent from school.

2019 Parent Opinion Survey Many families will have received notification that they have been randomly selected to participate in
the 2019 Parent Opinion Survey. This annual survey offered by the Department of Education and
Training is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents and all responses to the survey
are anonymous. The assistance of families in completing the survey based on their experiences and
perceptions of Camperdown College over the past year is greatly appreciated.
The Parent Opinion Survey helps us to gain an understanding of parents’ perceptions of school climate,
student behaviour and student engagement. We use the survey results to help inform and direct future
school planning and improvement strategies. The survey will be conducted online between Monday
22rd July to Sunday 11th August, only takes 10-15 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any
convenient time within this period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.
The survey results will be reported back to our school at the end of September and a summary of the results will be shared through the
school newsletter. We thank you for your participation and feedback!

Camperdown College VCAL students are again preparing for their
Mow Down event in conjunction with VicMow (The Victorian
Mower Racing Association), to be held on Saturday 26th October.

event, we would love to hear from you!
We are seeking sponsorship in the form of goods, services, a gift for
our raffle or a cash donation of $50. In return you will be provided
with free tickets to the event, advertising on our program and

Last week, students from Prep – Year 4 attended a “Market
Fresh” incursion from the Melbourne Market Authority.
Students learned about fruit and vegetables and the
importance of including fruit and vegetables in our diet.
Students also had the opportunity to sample a wide variety of fresh fruits which had been generously donated by Greavesy’s Fruit ‘n’ Veg in
Terang. This incursion was made possible by the kind
nomination of our school in the ‘A Better Choice’ Back-to School promotion by the
Senarath family – thank you!
Graeme Bennett Assistant Principal Our students were treated to this incursion
thanks to Onaya and Jayavi Senarath (above).

Mrs Marie Mutton
Mrs Mutton is a Maths and Physics teacher. She used to be an electrical
engineer in Sweden but became a teacher when she moved to Australia in
2001. She was born and raised in Linköping Sweden with her two siblings.
Mrs Mutton’s schooling was very different compared to ours in Australia.
She went to a mainstream school then in Year 10 she had to pick what type
of school she wanted to go to out of Technical, Trade, Maths and Science
and Humanities. She chose Technical School. She then moved onto
university and became an electrical engineer and then went to University in
Australia to become a teacher.
Mrs Mutton teaches Maths and Physics. She likes to share knowledge and dislikes poor
behaviour that distracts people from their work. Welcome to Camperdown College Mrs Mutton.
Harry Molan, VCAL Student
Year 3/4 students braved the cold and made their way
to Tower Hill on Monday to expand on their new
Inquiry Unit Our Country, Our Place Upon arrival,
students were taken on tours around Tower Hill that
had them taking part in boomerang and spear
throwing, a walk around the wetlands and a talk
about Aboriginal clothing, painting and tools. Whilst
on the wetlands walk, students tried some bush tucker
that included native spinach, salt tree and sap.
Students enjoyed a close up look at the emus,
wallabies and koalas that roamed free and were
educated about the possum skin cloaks. Possum
skin cloaks were used not only to keep
Aboriginals warm, but on the inside is their life
story; each possum skin tells about a part of the
Aboriginals life. Students also learnt how to make
paint, soap, food and tools from their
surroundings. Based on the information that
students were sharing on the way home, this
excursion proved to be fun and informative.
Lauren Murphy
Year 3/4 Teacher
Year 9 students toured the district last week learning
about the training opportunities available from their own
school yards as part of the Corangamite Trade Training
Cluster (CTTC) initiative.
Camperdown College host Hair and Beauty,
Derrinallum College provide Agriculture, Cobden
Technical School deliver Building, Automotive and
Electro technology, Terang College offer Community
Services and Timboon P12 School deliver Hospitality,
Engineering and Music.
Students have the ability to access nationally recognised
courses whilst staying in school completing their VCE
or VCAL, in some cases not leaving their own campus.
Mrs Maskell will be meeting with students in the
coming weeks to discuss career pathways. Please
contact Mrs Maskell to arrange a time if you would like
to join the discussion with your child.
