Scriptural Rosary A Scriptural Rosary recital is held at 8:30 am on the first Saturday of each month in the Day Chapel. In the Scriptural Rosary, one or two lines from the Bible, appropriate to the rosary decade being meditated on, are said before each Hail Mary. The whole rosary takes only about 25 minutes to complete. Dedications for personal and family intentions are welcome. Please bring your family, children and friends on January 5. All you have to do is join in saying the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be or just pray along silently. You will find this is an easy and concise way to meditate on the mystery of Christ’s life, a refreshing way to start the weekend and pray to our Blessed Mother. This Rosary is supported by the Prince of Peace Knights of Columbus Council 11537.

An Advent Reflection

Advent is a time when we, like Mary, carry Christ who will not be there unless we take him. Advent is the time when we must pause and remember that Jesus, not Santa or Rudolph, is the main event; to recall that Christmas is not a holiday, but a holy day, very holy. It is the coming of God in the flesh. God came once. We must practice how to make him come again, every day. So the difference between Christians and all others during this time of year should be that Christians remember, and give evidence of it.

Youth Protection 1 Online Training The Diocese of Birmingham is now offering an online alternative for taking the Youth Protection 1 training class. To meet diocesan standards an individual must complete a 2 part class, “Protect Children”, provided through Shield the Vulnerable, an established and respected provider of child protection training for the Church. The charge for taking this class is $9.50, payable when you sign up. Free classes, taught by the Diocese, are still available. You can find the complete schedule of classes at www.bhmdiocese.org under ‘Child and Youth Protection Information’. In either case training is good for 3 years after which certification must be renewed. For information about the process requirements and sign up instructions please go to www.popcatholic.org and on the Church tab click on ‘Parish Services’, ‘Youth’, ‘On-line Alternative Youth Protection 1’.

Stewardship: Parishioners Answering God’s Call For the past 2 weeks, the young children in Religious Education and Prince of Peace School have been hard at work creating

Christmas cards to let others know that someone is thinking about them and wishing them the peace of Christ this holy season.

“Merry Christmas” cards were artfully designed for the residents of The Oaks. “Feliz Navidad” cards were created

for delivery by the Forgotten Children Ministries to INFA, a government run orphanage in Honduras. A team from

Birmingham, a parishioner included, will be there on a mission trip December 14-20. While there they will deliver

food to the needy and share and teach the gospel to the children.

Help us! Submit your stewardship story examples to [email protected].

They may be edited for space consideration.

Casting Lots for the Seamless Garment (John 19:23-24)

Here is Cardinal Bernardin’s gift to the world

The Seamless Garment of Life is not a theory but a principle that all life is sacred, from womb to tomb, in the unborn and the dying, in the murderer on death row and the mother in a coma, in the soldier in Afghanistan and the homeless family in Iraq, in the child abused by a pedophile and the pensioner who can’t afford a doctor, in the oil-poisoned Gulf and the coal mines of Pennsylvania, in the Arab and in the Israeli. “When human life is considered ‘cheap’ or easily expendable in one area,” said Cardinal Bernardin, “eventually nothing is held as sacred and all lives are in jeopardy.” The Seamless Garment of Life is not a religious belief but a spiritual understanding that all of us are one. I stay Catholic because the Church has a consistent ethic of life. The seamless garment is not always comfortable, but it fits all sizes. Today’s post is excerpted from: Why Stay Catholic? Unexpected Answers to a Life-Changing Question, Michael Leach, Loyola Press, Chicago If interested in becoming involved with the Seamless Garment Committee, call Tom & Elsbeth Germanson at 205.565.3456.
