Reflection In this Year of Mercy, pray for a deeper conversion of heart and the courage to be the light in the dark places.
Take a deep breath, breathe in God’s love and breathe out tension. Take a deep breath, breathe in God’s love and breathe out fear.
Take a deep breath, breathe in God’s love and breathe out anger. Take a deep breath, breathe in God’s love and breathe out resentment.
Take a deep breath, breathe in God’s love and breathe out worry. Breathe in and out imaging God’s love flowing through you.
Adult Education Programs
Coming in September The Lives of Great Chris"ans, Part II – Sundays, 9:45 - 10:45 am, St. Monica, beginning September 11. We con#nue this fascina#ng video series by Professor William Cook. Learn about key persons who were great prac##oners of the Chris#an life, such as St. Thomas More, Mar#n Luther, John Wesley, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, St. Damien of Molokai, St. Teresa of Calcu(a and Mar#n Luther King. Professor Cook’s enthusias#c presenta#on style has made him a popular lecturer.
The Reforma"ons – Tuesdays, 9:30 - 10:30 am, St. Monica, beginning September 13. 2017 will mark the 500th anniversary of Mar#n Luther pos#ng his 95 Theses on the cathedral door at Wi(enberg, Germany. We will learn about various a(empts to reform Chris#anity from the 14th to the 17th centuries and beyond. Christopher Belli(o, Ph.D., Chair and Professor of History at Kean University in New Jersey, provides insights into the abuses that mo#vated reformers to change the course of Chris#anity and the reac#ons of Catholic leaders to reform the Church from within. Professor Kean has published extensively and has appeared on The History Channel, CNN, MSNBC, PBS and NPR.
For more informa!on about these and other adult educa!on programs, contact Mike Brown at [email protected].
August 15 is the Assump!on of the
Blessed Virgin Mary…..
The bodily taking up of the Virgin Mary into Heaven at the end of her earthly life.
The Catholic Church teaches as dogma that the Virgin Mary “having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory.”
The 2016 liturgical calendar does not recognize this as a holy day this year as it falls on a Monday…
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are
you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb
Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now
and at the hour of our death. AMEN
Color Your State! If you would like to lead or represent your state/country in our Hometown Way or for more info, please contact Bridget Carter, [email protected] or email the church office, [email protected]. States/Countries represented so far: New England States, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Philippines, Ireland, and Mexico. Look for our map in the Gathering Space on Sunday, August 21 to sign-up and color your state!

Religious Education Taking Time to Read the Bible
One of the reasons we don’t read the Bible more is because we have become an increasingly impa#ent society. The Bible isn’t like other books. It requires pa#ence. It is like when you meet a fascina#ng person; it takes #me to get to know him or her.
The more impa#ent we have become as a society, the more our rela#onships have suffered. Pa#ence is at the core of any great rela#onship, because it takes pa#ence to listen and really understand the heart of another person.
The Bible helps us know the heart of God and the heart of man. That takes #me. It’s not a self-help book, in which every line is filled with clichés and step-by-step direc#ves. It is about learning our own heart.
But in a deeply subconscious way, the explana#on for why we don’t read the Bible more is deeply profound: We know the Word of God has the power to transform our lives, and the uncomfortable, unspoken, and o'en-avoided truth is that we don’t want our lives transformed. Be honest. Do you want God to completely overhaul your life and totally transform you? (Rediscover Jesus)
Forma!on classes con!nue for grades K3-1 during both the 8:30 and 11:00 am Masses. If you haven’t tried the classes, please come down to the Religious Educa!on Office to join the fun! Faith Forma!on for the fall for grades K3-10 will begin on September 18. Registra!on has begun. Confirma!on Parent Mee!ng - Sunday, August 28 - 9:40 am in the Day Chapel.

Casting Lots for the Seamless Garment (John 19:23-24) St. Mother Teresa Quotes
“We think some#mes that poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty. We must start in our own homes to remedy this kind of poverty.”
“Let us touch the dying, the poor, the lonely and the unwanted according to the graces we have received and let us not be ashamed or slow to do the humble work.”

Respirar adentro y hacia fuera imaginando el amor de Dios que fluye a través de usted.
