Casting Lots for the Seamless Garment (John 19:23-24) Immigration - An Opinion
Conservative columnist George Will caused a stir when commenting on Fox News Sunday, August 10: “We ought to say to these children, ‘Welcome to America. You’re going to go to school, get a job, and become Americans. We have 3,141 counties in this country. That would be 20 per county. The idea that we can’t assimilate these eight-year-old criminals with their teddy bears is preposterous.”
He then points out that conditions in their home countries need to be improved, and while his conservative solutions may not be ones everyone would agree with, it’s obvious that the ethical way of stemming the tide of immigrant children involves helping to solve the problems from which they are understandably fleeing. (Consistent Life webpage issue #224 08.22.14)
