Summer Sunday School...Why Go? Summer Sunday School at Prince of Peace has begun. All children, K3 - Grade 1, are
invited to attend. As discussed in the article below, it is important that we foster an interest in learning about God during these formative years. Please consider having your
children join us...no registration required.
Why a Parish Early Childhood Program Is So Important By Margaret DeMatteo (courtesy of Our Sunday Visitor)
Learning the Language of Faith
The rate of development in the first five years surpasses that of any phase of life; rapid expansion of vocabulary is just one part. We can lay the most important of foundations, that of a loving and trusting relationship with God; the kind of
foundation Jesus talks about in the Parable of Two Builders (Matthew 7:24-27; Luke 6:47-49) Expanding Horizons
In addition to everything that is happening cognitively with the brain, the physical, social, and emotional skills of the preschool-kindergarten age child are exploding. His/her interest and ability to sing, dance, and engage in pretend play and
dramatizations are modes that lend themselves so naturally to faith learning.
Christ’s Call to Welcome and Love At Baptism parents pledge to guide and form their children in the ‘practice of the faith.’ As parishes, we promise to support
them in that undertaking. Providing a quality early childhood program is an extension of this. It also ties into our call to hospitality as a Church. Margaret DeMatteo has a M.A. in Teaching. She has facilitated early childhood programs in various parishes and taught in Catholic

Stewardship: Parishioners Answering God’s Call We NEED YOUR HELP! Living the stewardship way of life often involves some very ordinary things that each of us do in the course of our day...speaking to someone new in church, taking a meal to a sick friend, praying for a family in need, etc. It also involves the great work done by our many ministries, whether you are a member of that ministry or a one-time volunteer helper. Tell us about it! The stories really help us all to come to a better understand of what living a stewardship way of life really means.
Please submit your stewardship story examples to [email protected].
On Sunday, June 8, a group from Prince of Peace will serve lunch to the needy at the
Church of the Reconciler. Volunteers are needed to provide food and desserts and help
serve the meal on that Sunday. If you would like to help with this ministry, please call
Cheryl Walker at 205.949.2907 or 205.540.7691.

Casting Lots for the Seamless Garment (John 19:23-24) The Pope’s Moral Code
Pope Francis is reinvigorating a widely if not universally shared moral code, one that has been suppressed by the glam and glitter of our media age and hijacked by the idolatry of private property (which the pope likens to the golden calf). With his joy and humility, Francis is trying to awaken us from our stupor, from what he calls “the globalization of indifference.” Pope Francis appeals to us to reawaken our personal moral awareness. We know not what we do, he tells us, because: Almost without being aware of it, we end up being incapable of feeling compassion at the outcry of the poor, weeping for other people’s pain, and feeling a need to help them, as though all of this were someone else’s responsibility and not our own. The culture of prosperity deadens us; we are thrilled if the market offers us something new to purchase. In the meantime all those lives stunted for lack of opportunity seem a mere spectacle; they fail to move us. (No. 54) (America, Mar 24, 2014, p. 18)
