Under his leadership the Board has provided carefulgovernance of the school leaving day-to-day managementof the school to the Principal and staff. During his time asChairperson Geoff ensured the Board had a clear focus onits obligations to the community as well as to government

School trustees have a very important role in making sureevery child achieves their potential at school. This
opportunity only comes up every three years and is awonderful way for you to make a real difference to ourchildren, school, community and at the same time enrichesyour own personal development.
Payments to the schoolFrom the beginning of Term 2 the process to pay for theschool donation, sports fees, class trips/camps etc. willchange. Rather than paying the class teacher, all cash andcheque payments should be put in a drop-box that will beset-up in the foyer of the main office.
Eftpos payments can still be made at the office counter,
although please note that the credit card facility is notavailable. Internet banking is also possible through ourbank account: 03-0703-0481920-01, using your childsname as reference. It is also really helpful if you send anemail to [email protected] to confirm what isbeing paid. Receipts will be sent home where requested.
The new process will restrict cash to one secure area andwill also enable families to make one payment for multiplechildren/activities which will be an improvement for manyof you.
Room 6s trip to Waimarama Organic Gardens.Last Friday room 6 drove to Waimarama Gardens. Whenroom 6 got there, all of room 6 stood on a giant log. Thenthe lady that was there said, Come and sit on a bench. After she said that, all of room 6 ran to a bench. When theywere all sitting, she started talking about plants. Then she

started asking quest ions. Why do you think we put plants in tyres? she said. Nearly all of room 6 put their hand up.After she asked all the questions, she took us to look at a field of pumpkins, peas and other things. Siobhans groupstarted counting all of the pumpkins. As room 6 were walking past the peas, there was a sign saying Please do notpick. When room 6 began to sit down, she started talking again about plants planted next to special plants to keep thebugs away. Then room 6 went on another walk to a plant that attracts stink bugs. Isobel got a stink bug on her arm. After everyone finished looking at them, all of room 6 said to the lady, Thank you. Then all of room 6 got into theirgroups and the parents drove them back to school. (Mia, Year 4 R6)

International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) formerly Australian Schools Competitions
This year we are again making it possible for children to take part in the ICAS Competitions organized by theEducational testing Centre at the University of New South Wales. The ICAS competitions are a suite of assessmentsdeveloped for primary and secondary students to provide diagnostic information about student abilities in core skillsareas of the curriculum.
Critical thinking, reasoning and problem solving are higher order skills essential for success in school as well as in thewider community. The material presented in the ICAS Competitions reflects this importance, providing the opportunityfor students to perform a range of tasks using these and other skills. The Competitions cater for a wide range of studentabilities using contexts that stimulate students' interest and engage their attention.
The Competitions assess skills relevant to curriculum outcomes at appropriate levels. Reports provide valuable
diagnostic information that can be used to assess student strengths and weaknesses and to supplement school reports. Please note: The school will pay for Year 6 students to sit the Science, Mathematics and Computer Skills tests.
Please note the timetable below and ensure entries are handed into the office by the due dates. Please use a formavailable from the school office to ensure we dont lose your entry of money!

Other product stalls made a nett profit of $4,914 with plants making a whopping $1,578 and booksclose behind with $1,249. Remember for next gala, every donated item makes a big difference becauseits pure profit! (incl.
