Directors DeskWeve won, weve won was all that I could hear on the phone.
There was shouting and screaming in the background and the voice, unrecognizable I might add, was getting more and more excited.
Slow down, take a big breath, tell me who you are and what haveyou won? I said.
There was a pause for a few moments and then Cathy Stacey ourMaster Franchisee for Victoria blurted out the most amazing news.
Step into Life was voted Fitness Victoria Business of the year2007
Step into Life was invited to submit a detailed profile of who we are,
what we do, how do we do what we do and why we think we arebetter than the rest.
Cathy in her dedicated and super efficient manner compiled adetailed presentation consisting of power point presentations, statistics, brochures and facts and figures about Step into Life.
This was presented to Fitness Victoria the governing body of Fitnessin Victoria. They in turn paid surprise visits to some of ourfranchises, phoned Step into Life members and interviewed them onall aspects of their experiences with Step into Life covering topics ofcustomer service, customer satisfaction, professionalism andproficiency of franchisees, reasons why they joined Step into Lifeetc.
This all culminated in a gala evening held at Bay View on Eden
where it was announced that Step into Life was a finalist togetherwith two other fitness organizations namely Equilibrium Fitness andGenesis Health Clubs.
And then they announced and the winner is Step into Life
Well done to every one associated with Step into Life Victoria, fromour fantastic franchisees to our wonderful members and especiallyto Cathy Stacey and Elsa McMillan and their dedicated and loyalbunch of staff members who all contributed to making this award areality.
The good news just keeps on coming!!!!!!!!!!!
Step into Life is very proud to announce that our group is now
100 plus franchises strong
Our January 2007 intake of franchisees has launched theirbusinesses with a bang and there are now over 100 Step into Lifevenues around Australia.
Step into Life is a growing force in the Fitness Industry due to thededication, professionalism and enthusiasm that each and everyone of our franchisees brings to the group.
With the quality of both our management team and our franchiseesStep into Life will continue to be a force to be reckoned with withinthe Fitness Industry.

Play it SafeSteps to reduce the risk of sustainingan injury during sport or recreation
An injury free lifestyle allows us to focuson getting the most out of life, gives usthe ability to train consistently and tocontinue having fun at sporting activities.Unfortunately as we age our inbuiltmechanisms that protect us from injuriesget slack and we get more complacent. When taking this into consideration andcoupled with the fact that some of ustrain more than ever, and take sport more
and more seriously, it's no wonder thatinjuries in sporting activities are rife andgenerally accepted as inevitable. Beloware some practical tips on how to reduceyour risk of injury in sport, keep you outof the doctor's office and into the sportingfield for longer. As always, it is action thatproduces results, so read on but moreimportantly "apply".
Sport and recreational activities are amajor part of many peoples lives. Theypromote fitness, fun and socialisation. However, there is also a risk of injuryassociated with many of these activities.
Back in a 1990 study, sports injury inAustralia was estimated to result inindirect costs of close to $1billionannually, with an estimated 1 millionsporting injuries occurring each year.
It is a common misconception thatinjuries are an acceptable part of anysporting activity. However this is not thecase. By taking appropriate measures wecan significantly reduce the risk ofinjuries sustained whilst engaging insporting or recreational activities and in
some cases prevent them entirely.
Apart from the actual physical effects ofan injury, there are many broaderconsequences suffered as a result. Eg.Inability to work, and psychologicalfactors that can reduce a persons qualityof life and impact on their family. Thereare also significant health costsassociated with injury, therefore it is vitalwe try and prevent them occurring.
There are some simple steps we can takeourselves to reduce the risk of sustainingan injury during sport or recreation. Theguidelines listed below can also be appliedto many activities we do daily around thehome to help reduce the risk of strains, sprains and overuse injuries.
WARM UPThis helps to prepare the body forexercise, and often consists of gentleaerobic exercise. It should be gentle andslow to the point of very light sweating. Thewarm up causes an increased circulation ofblood to the muscles about to exercise andhelps reduce stiffness. The warm up periodusually lasts 15 to 30 minutes, dependingon the exercise and individual differences.
STRETCHStatic stretching is a very important part ofinjury prevention. Warming up beforestretching increases the blood flow to themuscles as outlined above, making yourstretches more effective. The stretchesmust be both general and specific to thesport you are preparing to do. It is important
to hold the stretches for 30-60 seconds. You should feel a gentle stretch, with nopain or discomfort. The stretch feelingshould reduce as the muscle adapts, at thispoint you can stretch a little bit further andhold for a further 30 seconds. DO NOTBOUNCE. Bouncing can cause tiny tears inthe muscle, which can lead to further injuryand reduced flexibility long term.
STRAPPINGTaping, strapping or bracing of specificparts of the body may be done for tworeasons. It may be used to help preventinjury occurring in high risk activities (eg.Ankle taping in basketball) or it is moreoften used as part of the rehabilitation ofan injured joint to protect it from furtherinjury as a person returns to exerciseafter injury. This should only be done onthe advice of a health care professional.
COOL DOWNThis should comprise light aerobicexercise for 5-15 minutes. The cool downperiod is important as this is when theblood carries oxygen and nutrients to themuscles used in exercise and removeswaste products resulting from exercise.
STRETCHStatic stretching again after exercisinghelps the muscles recover and preventssoreness.
OTHER TIPS
Avoid exercising when tired. Ensure supposed minor injuries
are treated correctly to preventthem recurring or fromdeveloping into more majorinjuries.
STOP if you experience pain.Ignore the old saying, no pain,no gain.
Consider appropriate dietincluding hydration.
Ensure you have appropriatefootwear.
Whenever starting a newactivity, start slowly and
gradually build up.
It is important to seek advice from anappropriate health care professionalprior to starting an exercise programor if you wish to discuss specificinjury prevention strategies.
