The Bush Church Aid Society has a heart for people living

in remote and regional Australia.

We are committed to going the distance to reach

Australia for Christ.

Under God, we do this by

• proclaiming Christ so that people may respond to Him;

• nurturing Christians in their faith and ministry;

• strengthening local Christian communities in their mission;

• providing services of Christian care and advocacy;

• developing an understanding of Christ’s mission and

• promoting active partnership throughout the church.

Our core commitments are

• relying on prayer for God’s help and the Holy Spirit’s guidance;

• trusting in the vision, authority and encouragement

of Scripture;

• working in humility, servanthood and fellowship with the church

in mission;

• developing interdependent relationships with Diocesan Bishops;

• providing pastoral care and professional development for staff and

• responsibly managing our resources.

The Bush Church Aid Society of Australia

We are Going the Distance by

• bringing the gospel of Christ to the outermost parts of

Australia – We are committed to sending messengers so that all

Australians, no matter where they live and work, are able to hear

the life-changing message of Christ.

• developing a new generation of culturally diverse Christian

leaders – We are committed to engaging young people,

discipling them in the faith and encouraging them in ministry so

they can lead others to Christ.

• supporting ministry by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander

people – We are committed to working with our first peoples

so they can serve Christ in ways that are Biblically faithful and

culturally appropriate.

• planting and renewing sustainable churches –

We are committed to establishing vibrant and outward-looking

gatherings of Christ’s people.

• equipping local leaders for fruitful ministry –

We are committed to supporting Christians ‘on the ground’ so

they can be salt and light for Christ.

• providing care in Christ’s Name –

We are committed to serving hurting people in times of crisis and

through ongoing Christ-centred pastoral care.

Every three months an email drops into my inbox: “Prayer Notes please!” Since I nervously compiled our first BCA prayer points in the early days as Field Staff, I now do so quickly and confidently. I look forward in the calendar to local events in the upcoming season, and recall the good things God has done in, through and around us. I want to pray for big things that seem impossible to us but possible for God, for example the full evangelisation of Strathfieldsaye (almost 7000 souls)!

I am encouraged to do this by the words of Jesus: Seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well (Matthew 6:33). Seek first reminds me that before I get distracted by the increasing administrative requirements of ministry, the ongoing property demands, the never-ending cycle of Sunday preparation, and even the quarterly preparation of BCA Prayer Notes, the kingdom of God comes first. Indeed, proactively seeking the kingdom through prayer, sacrifice, service, and often quietness is needed to sort all these things out as well.

When we seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, our eyes are drawn away from the tyranny of the urgent and up to what is truly important – the good news of Jesus. The curse of sin and penalty of death is defeated through Christ’s death and resurrection. Jesus is the Alpha and Omega, sovereign over the heavens and the earth. These are the main things which need to be kept as the main things. These are the reasons we pray, and pray big, because we believe in the God who listens, cares and acts in response to prayer.

So, as you pray through these Prayer Notes this Winter, confidently pray big for us each day. Pray for more than we ask, because God can and will do immeasurably more than we ask or can possibly imagine (Ephesians 3:20). Sometimes we struggle to ask big, and that’s why we are so blessed to have you pray with us – and for us. We don’t take that for granted when the email drops: “Prayer Notes please!”

Now I commit you to God and to the word of His grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. Acts 20:32

June Give thanks for our Centenary celebrations, reflecting on 100 years of service to Australians in the bush and the hope we have as BCA continues to reach Australia for Christ. Please pray for the BCA National Director appointment process.

July Please pray for the BCA National Council who come together this month to meet, and for all committees who work to ensure good stewardship of the resources God so graciously provides BCA to do His work across the country.

August Please pray this month as new ministry proposals are submitted and considered. Give thanks and pray for the many Nomads who head north during this time of the year. May they enjoy safe travels and provide encouragement to Field Staff they visit.

1 National Office

Profile The National Office reaches Australia for Christ by stewarding the resources God gives BCA, so they are used effectively and efficiently to sustain existing and emerging ministries. We do this alongside Regional Officers, honorary officers and a team of generous volunteers.

June Pray for travelling mercies for David Rogers-Smith and Neville as they head to North Queensland. Pray that the Indigenous Anglican clergy in North Queensland will be encouraged by their visit. Pray also for the Eastern Area Aboriginal Evangelical Fellowship (AEF) ladies gathering.

July Pray for us as we share with BCA supporters at Blaxland about Indigenous ministry and that those present will be encouraged as we speak. Pray for Neville as he attends the Kimberley Christian Convention and also speaks at Richmond Anglican church.

August Pray for our Indigenous Staff throughout the country as well as those who work alongside Indigenous people to proclaim the gospel. Pray that the gospel will have free course and that people will become followers of Jesus.

Profile Neville and Kathie reside in Dubbo, central New South Wales. They have set up an office at the local Anglican Church. Neville travels and ministers around the country from this location.

No investment in time is more fruitful than that spent instructing and encouraging children in the Christian message. Pray for more sowers of the ‘Word’ to our children, for the harvest is the foundation on which Christ is entrusting us for the future building of His church. Praise God for a wonderful time of learning, sharing, visiting, door knocking with the gospel, fellowship with each other and the locals at the annual Nomads Gathering in Narromine. The huge highlight of the weekend was hearing wonderful talks from BCA Field Staff James Daymond, Ayumi Tamsett, Alfrene Wright and Neville Naden.

Profile The Bush Church Aid Nomads scheme connects Christian travelers with Field Staff and the churches they serve, so they can take part in ministry on their travels. Nomads support the work of the gospel and experience what life is like in remote areas. BCA’s Field Staff and their church communities are very encouraged by the presence of Nomads and their willingness to lend a hand.

Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times. Mark 4:8

June Pray that we will have courage to plant into mission; to share the seed of God’s word with all Australians, but especially to those in remote and isolated places.

July Pray for growth in both city and rural churches, that in partnership we will be able to send and sustain gospel messengers across Australia. Please also pray for the Lord to raise up new workers for His mission fields.

August Pray for the gathering of the first fruits. Pray that the harvest will produce an abundance of praise and thanksgiving to God’s glory.

I always thank my God for you because of His grace given you in Christ Jesus. 1 Corinthians 1:4

June Father, thank you for the believers in Karratha, because of the grace you have given them in Christ Jesus. Please pray that in You, those believers will be enriched in every way – in all their speaking and in all their knowledge – so that the testimony of Christ will be confirmed in their lives.

July Father, give great endurance and patience to all the believers in Karratha, so that their lives may be ones of joyful thanksgiving to you. May the new minister of your choosing soon be brought to lead this faithful congregation.

August Father, in your mercy, please fill the Karratha congregation with the knowledge of your will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. May they live lives worthy of your Name and please you in every way.

THE BCA PRAYERLord our God, help us to remember those who live in isolated and remote parts of our land. We ask you to strengthen and encourage all whose ministries are supported by The Bush Church Aid Society. Refresh them in times of discouragement and loneliness and call others to stand with them in the task of making Christ known. Grant that, through the ministry of the Word and Sacraments, through caring service and by support for young people, the message of your redeeming love may be proclaimed and accepted by the people of our land.
