EDITORIALGood evening and welcome back to Rylands Way for this FTL Futbol Hellenic League fixture against Trowbridge Town. A warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters from Trowbridge who have made the journey from the south of the county for the game. We hope they will join us in the bar after the game for some beer and sandwiches.

The promotion race is now getting very tight and, as I have said in previous programmes, third place is probably not going to be good enough this season due to the teams who have lights in both the West and East division being at the top of the two divisions. Therefore, a top two place is an imperative and we cannot afford to drop too many more points in the final run of games. Trowbridge will be tough opponents tonight as always and their results have improved in recent weeks highlighted when they ran leaders Cheltenham Saracens very close a fortnight ago.

With the mid-point of March having past thoughts now turn to the usual end of season activities here at Wootton Bassett Town. In a couple of weeks the Youth Section will send three sides to Holland to play games against sides in both The Hague and Dordrecht. This year the trip is the return leg of an exchange with the Dutch and our party will be staying in the homes of the Dutch families from sGravendzandse football club. Prior to our trip to Holland, sGravendzanse will also be sending an Under 18 side over to the UK to play one of our Under 18 sides. Once the Holland activity is out of the way the Youth Section will then be gearing up for the Clubs six-a-side tournament in June. Tonights programme includes details of the dates for this years tournament and details of which age groups will be on which day.

Dave looks back on the Clanfield game in his From The Dugout column. The From The Archives series focuses on that 1968-69 Season, which saw an 11th place finish in the old Wiltshire Combination League.

Danny Groom reflects on a disappointing result for the Under 18 Floodlit side against Supermarine but the lads bounced back to record a win against Corsham Town, despite some erratic officiating. Knowing that Danny rarely passes a bad comment about referees, this one must have been very poor for Danny to feel the need to make a comment in his write-up. The Youth Section in Focus features games from the last two weeks and includes a report on the Under 18A side who have made the semi-final of their league cup competition.

In his Footy Nut Column, Steve Hale catches up on all that is happening in the local football.

The programme again features the latest edition of Touchline newsletter. The First Team player featured this week in the Player Profile is actually one of our therapists, Michelle Leighton. The WBTFC Dream Team feature sees me commit my all time WBTFC XI to paper. This is only because nobody has submitted another line up to me, so this may be the last week of this feature. As stated in previous programmes I would welcome all submissions, be they from club officials, players or supporters. Just send me an email using the address on Page 2.

Unfortunately I will not be at the match tonight as QPR will be playing at Reading but I hope to catch up with you all in the near future. Enjoy the game and here is to three more points tonight for that promotion chase.

Best wishes

CHAIRMAN’S CHAT

Girls Football Training in MarchWBTFC are offering training for any girls interested in playing football in schoolyears 4, 5, 6 and 7. The sessions are being held at Ballards Ash on allSaturday mornings from 9AM to 10.30AM. Please ensure that suitable footwear,weather-appropriate clothing and shin pads are worn and that the girls bring adrink with them.

FROM THE DUGOUT Firstly I would like to welcome the players, officials and supporters of Trowbridge Town bar after the game. It is always a pleasure to play against Trowbridge they have a great history and are one of the biggest teams in Wiltshire. They are still one of the best supported teams at this level and it is always a pleasure to see their fans turn out in numbers. I have to say how disappointed I was after the Clanfield game not with the players but some of the negative comments that were being bandied about. We have lost one game in the last 18 matches and have played some good football along the way. We have 8 games left and we are in with more than a fighting chance so let the team even when things are not going our way. This is a very young and very committed team. On a positive note I would like to take this opportunity to thank Simon Paish who runs the Reserves and despite their league position is doing a great job. It cannot be easy when I ask him to give four of my First Team squad a game for various reasons. Every time I have been to Simon he has accommodated us, he is doing a great job and it is really appreciated by everyone connected to the First Team. We must be doing something right at Bassett as I have had three players from three different teams in our league offering their services to me over the last few weeks. No disrespect to any of those players but I am totally happy with squad that I have assembled this season and they will be given every chance to see the season out. We really need to get back to winning ways today if we are going to fulfil our early season promise. The squad is fully fit as we come in to the last few games so no excuses now it is all down to us. We have worked our socks off to get where we are and with a little bit of luck we can compete right until the end of the season.

OPPONENTS HISTORY

The first year saw the Club with no team and no ground but a lot of time and effort put in by supporters of the resulted in finances being raised and a partner arrange-ment being agreed with Trowbridge Town Youth to share their Woodmarsh facilities.

The Club joined the Wiltshire County League for the 1999-2000 Season, winning the County Intermediate League at the first attempt and promotion to the County Senior League. Consistent performances were achieved in this League with the Club reaching the final of both the County Senior Cup and League Knockout Cup in two successive seasons. The club completed the Wiltshire League Championship and Wilts Senior Cup double in 2003-2004 and, together with ground improvements during the summer, brought the reward of a place in the Hellenic League.

The runners-up spot was achieved at the first attempt but promotion could not be taken due to ground requirements, something which was unfortunately repeated again two years later when runners-up was attained for a second time.

Since the Club’s formation the emphasis has been placed on running a Members Clubs that keeps itself financially sound. The Membership total has remained at a consistent level and together with average attendances at home matches that would be the envy of many other Senior Clubs, interest in the Club has remained at a high level. Since 1998, the emphasis on the playing side has been based on young players from the local areas (with a few exceptions). The club has always has a strong link with Trowbridge Town Youth and the two clubs formally merged in June 2008. Town Youth FC has been one of the most successful youth football Clubs in the County for a number of years and many of their players and coaches have progressed to play, or manage the senior side. Trowbridge appointed Chris Carr; their youngest ever coach, for the current season. Although the Club looks to the youth and the broader structure of the Club to secure an enduring future, there are long and proud roots to this County Town set up. Future plans include the further development of Woodmarsh in order to be to make the next step up the football pyramid.

Trowbridge Town AFC was formed in the summer of 1998 following the demise of Trowbridge Town (1983) Ltd.

Football supporters in the town, saddened by the end of the Club, got together and agreed to resurrect interest and form a new Club.

FROM THE ARCHIVES 1968-69 PREVIOUS MEETINGSSuicidal Bassett Continue to Flounder Rylands Way, 2nd October 2007 v Trowbridge (Lost 2-4)

Mistakes are always going to hurt a team, whether they are against a struggling side or a high-flying side. You make too many and you’re going to lose. Wootton Bassett Town haven’t seemed to work that out yet. Despite a fantastic attacking display that saw Trowbridge Town ripped to shreds during the first half and for on and off spells throughout the second, their Wiltshire rivals came away with a 4-2 victory. Three of their goals came from Bassett mistakes. The first came eight minutes in when Martin Thompson scuffed a clearance and Dave Percival slid through Mark Gerrish down the left and he comfortably beat Sean Purcell from 15 yards. However Bassett were back on level terms 15 minutes in. Nathan Perkins swung in a perfectly placed corner, Steve Yeardley lost his marker, and the Bassett skipped emphatically headed home from 12 yards. For the first time in a long time, conceding first had not dented Bassett’s confidence. Up until six minutes before the break the chances fell solely to the home team. Dennis King was first to test Trowbridge, firing a 30 yard free kick just over midway through the period. Then Matty Bennett constantly torched Craig Brown down the right. Four times he was able to beat him and deliver in testing crosses. Firstly, Lee Stoddart saw a diving header at the front post go inches wide. Thompson then volleyed just over after a Bennett corner was only half cleared. Ten minutes before the break Bennett found John Magani’s feet and the forward took a step away from his man before firing viciously at goal from 12 yards. Lewis Porter though was equal to the effort and did well to hold onto the powerfully struck shot. A minute later a looping cross this time picked Stoddart out at the far post. The forward – making his first team return after a successful spell in the reserves – rose to the ball and headed goalwards but could only find the top of the bar and the ball bounced over. Then came mistake number two at the back. Challenging for a throw in with Gerrish in the right corner, Rich Gee decided to try win the ball by going past the forward on the inside. Instead the throw was sent into the corner, Gerrish easily rolled Gee, whipped in a powerful cross and Matt Minnis diverted a header in from all of six yards. Stoddart had another chance go begging at the other end as he got in front of his marker and struck low and first time from 10 yards. But a desperately stuck out boot from a Trowbridge defender deflected the effort wide. On the stroke of half time the killer blow was struck. A quick break was initiated by a Porter boot up-field. Brown raced onto the ball and delivered a low cross from the left touchline and Minnis slid in after racing 50 yards from the centre of midfield for his second and Trowbridge’s third. The final and most telling error came with five minutes gone in the second period. Gee was caught in possession deep inside his own half by Gerrish, who slid in Minnis for an easy one-on-one finish. In the 55th minute a clever switch from left to right saw Bennett race in behind the visitors’ defence. He struck a low shot from 15 yards across goal and another deflection took the ball wide of the post. Substitute Andy White did get a goal back with 64 minutes on the clock, towering above the Trowbridge defence to head a Lee Morse free kick in over the head of a flat-footed Porter. Trowbridge had seemingly learnt a lesson from Aston Villa the night before as they tightened up at the back, limiting Bassett to one more chance – another White header in injury time. White diverted a King cross towards goal but an acrobatic tip from Porter helped it over. In the proceeding minutes, the contest got a bit tasty with a few late fouls and a confrontation between King and opposite number Lee Salter, resulting in both being booked. Stu Hemsley found himself cautioned for a high tackle earlier on whilst timewasting saw Percival and Brown find their names in the book. Scoop’s Man of the Match: Steve Yeardley – despite only playing 65 minutes, Yeardley had a large impact on the game from his right back position. He linked up superbly with Bennett, feeding him down the right and creating space for the winger with his timely overlapping runs. Scoop Rating: 5/10 – Bassett had Trowbridge left for dead at times and were creating chances for fun in the first half. But three gifted goals saw confidence levels dip and cost Bassett at least a point against an average Trowbridge side, who aren’t nearly as good as they think they are.

The poor form was carried over into the first half of the following week’s league fixture with Spencer Moulton at Rylands as Wootton Bassett found themselves 2-0 early on. However, goals from Colin Taylor and Dave Challis, the latter an excellent goal following a Benny Lehane pass, ensured a share of the points. Christmas week saw a visit to Lacock based side Black Sports who were down at the bottom of the table. Probably the most disappointing result of the season saw Wootton Bassett go down 3-1 and the early season highs all of sudden seemed a long time ago as Wootton Bassett continued to slip down the table.

The first game of the New Year was played on 11th January 1969 when Wootton Bassett played host to near neighbours Wroughton, another side who were at the wrong end of the table and who were without a win to their name. Another disappointing result saw the two sides share six goals, Bob Pearce, Ian Sinfield and another Brian Ewen penalty scoring at the right end for Bassett, Colin Taylor scoring at the wrong end in Wroughton’s three goals. This was very much a point dropped rather than a point gained. There was a fortnight break before the next game against Devizes Town Reserves. Despite the Devizes goalkeeper not turning up at Rylands Way, Wootton Bassett still lost to yet another team down at the bottom of the table, 1-3 the score with Colin Taylor scoring the consolation goal for Wootton Bassett. The poor form was carried into February as the two fixtures played in the month were both lost. Melksham Town won 2-0 at Rylands and the other game saw Wootton Bassett lose 3-1 at Melksham, Tommy Gardiner scoring with a brilliant 20 yard drive the only high for Bassett from the match.

The first win of the New Year was finally secured on the first day of March, Brian Ewen with two goals and Dave Challis with one securing a 3-1 home win over West Lavington. The next fixture was against Sanford and was played in midweek, having been postponed on the Saturday due to Swindon Town’s League Cup final appearance against Arsenal. Wootton Bassett went down 2-1, a result which saw Sanford go top of the league on goal average, Brian Ewen with the goal for Wootton Bassett. The following week Wootton Bassett Town returned to winning ways with a 2-0 success over Devizes Town Reserves, Phil Marsh and Ian Sinfield scoring the Wootton Bassett winning goals.

The first game played in April saw a draw away at Dursley. This was followed by a narrow midweek win away at Vickers, Dave Challis scoring the only goal of the game. Two days later another point was secured following a 3-3 home draw with Dursley in the return fixture, Roy Blackburn, Benny Lehane and Dave Challis scoring in a game which saw both sides miss penalties. April ended with two defeats away from home, a 2-1 defeat at Radstock Town being followed by a similar result at Westcott, Tommy Gardiner with the consolation goal in the latter fixture. Two days later Wootton Bassett won 2-1 in the Subsidiary Cup against Dursley with goals from Roy Blackburn and Brian Ewen. Unfortunately it has not been possible to trace any further results in the competition. The season ended with a 4-1 defeat at Warminster, Bob Thomas with the Wootton Bassett goal. A season that had started so brightly had faded away badly and the side finished in a disappointing 11th place.

The final league table for the season and results and scorers (where known) for games played are shown overleaf:

against Black Sports then Wootton Bassett would have had a much bigger win. The early part of the game was plagued by home misses. Even a penalty was shot tamely into Andy Beattie’s waiting hands by Brian Ewen. Wootton Bassett breathed more easily, however, when Dowdeswell at last netted, for one or two Blacks attacks had gone desperately near. It was better in the second half after Benny Lehane had slipped the ball through for Bob Thomas to fire in the second goal. The game was then Wootton Bassett’s and remained so.

A week after the report was published the bubble was well and truly burst when Wootton Bassett left Trowbridge Town Reserves having conceded four goals without reply. The four goals included a hat-trick from Alan Peacock, the son of a former Bristol City forward, who was playing his last game before returning to university. Fortunately Wootton Bassett were able to bounce back immediately and secured a 4-0 home win of their own against Warminster Town, Mike Beale, Bob Thomas, Dave Challis and Ian Sinfield all scoring in the win. Radstock Town were the next visitors to Rylands Way and Wootton Bassett found themselves 2-0 down at the break, an improved second half saw Tommy Gardiner pull one back but it was not enough against another of the title chasing sides. Completing a run of three consecutive home games was a visit from Westbury. The two sides shared six goals and the points. Tommy Gardiner had put Wootton Bassett in front in the 3rd minute from Martin Oxborrow’s pass but then Westbury scored twice to lead. Dave Challis equalised only to see Westbury go back in front. Wootton Bassett ensured the points were shared when Brian Ewen hit a splendid goal from Alan Dowdeswell’s centre to make it 3-3.

October ended with a trip to Spencer Moulton in an attractive game which was described in the Football Pink, quoting an eye witness, as being “amateur football at its best”. Under the headline Wootton Bassett on Upgrade Hold Highest Position for Ten Seasons the paper went on to note that Wootton Bassett had only really gained points against sides at the bottom and that the 5th place position, level on points with the 3rd placed team, might be a false position but countered this by saying Bassett had “run Radstock and Westbury close”. In the Spencer Moulton fixture Wootton Bassett had trailed 1-0 at the break but two penalties from Brian Ewen and a Tommy Gardiner had put Bassett 3-1 up, Bassett eventually winning 3-2.

November was to prove to be a disappointing month for the team from Rylands Way. Consolation goals from Martin Oxborrow and Dave Challis were not enough as the side went down 5-2 away at title chasing Melksham Town. This was followed by a 1-0 defeat against Bromham at Rylands in a game played in thick fog. The only points won in the month were obtained from a visit to West Lavington where Colin Taylor (2), Dave Challis and Brian Ewen, with yet another penalty, scored in a 4-0 win. A 3-0 defeat at home to 2nd placed Bemerton ended the November fixtures as the game the following week at Radstock was postponed by the match referee much to the annoyance of both teams, particularly the Wootton Bassett contingent, as noted on the back page of the Football Pink:

Despite protests from both teams the referee, Mr R. Feltham, postponed the Radstock v Wootton Bassett fixture at Radstock this afternoon. “The pitch is waterlogged” said Mr Feltham, “We would not get through the match.” “It is ridiculous” said Mr A.K. Thomas, secretary of Wootton Bassett. “At least he could have started the match to see how conditions were”. Mr Frank Davies, Chairman added, “Four of us brought cars down and many of the lads lost an hours work this morning to get away in time. We came here prepared to play and are still ready to do so.

The beginning of December saw the traditional Country Cup fixtures with Wootton Bassett Town making an early exit from the prestigious competition, going down 4-0 at home to Chippenham Town.

FROM THE ARCHIVES 1968-69 FOOTY NUT What was going on in the world Crazy World of Arthur Brown topped the charts with Fire as the season kicked off and ended with the Beatles at number one with Get Back. Mary Hopkin was top the charts for six whle weeks during the season with Those Were The Days. Leeds United were Division One champions finishing six points ahead of Liverpool. QPR finish bottom of the table in their first season in the top flight with a measly18 points from 42 games. Swindon Town have a successful season finishing runners-up in Division Three, just missing out on the title on goal average and also winning the League Cup Final, defeating Arsenal 3-1 after extra-time thanks to an inspired performance and two goals from Don Rogers. The FA Cup was won by Manchester City who defeated Leicester City 10 in the final. n voyage. As the season starts Czechoslovakia is invaded by Russian and Warsaw Pact forces. Richard Nixon is inaugurated as the 37th president of the US. The season ends with the Kray Twins being given life sentences for murder.

Season 1968-69 kicked off on 10th August with the visit of Trowbridge Town to Rylands Way. A Brian Ewen penalty put Wootton Bassett in front and Colin Taylor made sure of the two points following a clever move between Martin Oxborrow and Terry Gardiner which Colin Taylor finished off n splendid fashion. A visit to Calne the following Saturday saw another two points gained, Martin Oxborrow and Graham Norris the scorers in a narrow 2-1 win. A strange piece of fixture planning saw the same opponents visit Rylands Way the following week and again it was two more points for Wootton Bassett in a very encouraging start to the season, Mike Beale and Colin Taylor netting in the 2-0 win. After such a good start to the season August ended with just one point from the next three games. A 2-1 home defeat to Westcott was followed by a 3-1 reverse at home to Vickers, Bob Thomas with the consolation goal. This was followed by a 1-1 draw away at Bromham, Graham Norris firing the Wootton Bassett goal.

September opened with a trip down south to Westbury and another point was gained from another 1-1 draw, Graham Norris again the scorer. Wootton Bassett were again on their travels the following week but this time it was the much shorter distance to play Wroughton and Wootton Bassett returned with both points having secured their second away win of the season. First half goals from Ian Sinfield ad Bob Pearce sent Wootton Bassett on their way to a 5-2 win. Goals from Alan Dowdeswell and Bob Thomas secured a 2-0 home win over Black Sports the following week, Dowdeswell scoring with a long range effort. Wootton Bassett could also afford the luxury of a missed penalty by Brian Ewen, as reported by the Football Pink under the headline Wootton Bassett Rise, High Position consolidated by 2-0 win:

The tense struggles at the top and bottom of the Wiltshire Combination have not obscured the manner in which Wootton Bassett have thrust themselves into a high position. Last Saturdays 2-0 win over Black Sports consolidated Wootton Bassett in third position , only one point behind Sanford Youth Centre who were two behind Bromham, the leaders [Ed: should have read Bemerton]. Naturally this has brought a good deal of satisfaction to Wootton Bassett, even if they have not overlooked the fact that fixtures have favoured them with their two most recent games up to date being against the bottom two. Both games were won, and these victories, plus four games without defeat have given a lot of confidence to a side in which young players like Ian Sinfield and Alan Dowdeswell have been introduced among the older members. There is still some polishing up to do for goals are being missed too easily. Indeed if a reasonable number had been taken from among chances that presented themselves

It is getting tight at the bottom of the Zamaretto Premier Division for Swindon Supermarine as they are 3 points off safety but they do have 4 games in hand over Bedford Town, so their destiny is still in their hands. An excellent 1-1 draw at Truro was achieved but that was then followed up with a 0-0 draw away at bottom side Rugby Town so that could be viewed as 2 points dropped then. On Saturday they did achieve a good 1-1 with local rivals Chippenham Town who are on the verge of the playoff spots. It is good that they have kept things tight defensively in the last three games but at this stage of the season 3 points from 3 games could make things tough and they will need to start scoring a few more goals and turning draws into wins as I am sure they will not want it to go to the wire. Manager Mark Collier has done an excellent job at Supermarine and has worked with his hands tied at times with budgetary constraints. I have always said that it is good for the town that Swindon has a team other than Swindon Town playing at the highest non league level they possibly can so I hope he can steer them to safety. I could not understand the story in the paper about a rumour that Hungerford manager Alan Clark was taking over from Mark, it is certainly not a rumour I had heard and there is not much that goes past my ears! With all due respect to Clarkie, he has had a tough first season himself in the Zamaretto South & West Division with Hungerford, a league lower who have only won once in their last 9 games which sees them in the bottom part of the division so where the rumour has come about him taking a job higher up I am not quite sure.

In the Hellenic Prem it is still neck and neck between Reading Town and Almondsbury, although Wantage are sneaking up on the outside but with their top scorer Rich Claydon now off travelling I do not think they have enough in their locker to really push the top two to the wire. Almondsbury slipped up recently losing to Oxford City Reserves (sorry should I not call them that?) and drew with Ascot at the weekend but I still back my original opinion that they will overtake Reading Town, who themselves are having a brilliant season and are also through to a cup final. Over at Highworth they have been on a good run and it is nice that it has coincided with former Bassett Keeper Adam Miller stepping in to cover for regular keeper Ian Gill. Adam came out training with me at Cirencester Town and signed a form to act as cover for our keeper and he has worked hard in the sessions we have had. Webby needed a keeper with Gilly injured and we needed Adam to get games so it suited all parties and he has done such a good job that he has kept Gilly out since he has returned from injury. In fact Gilly is now covering for Chippenham keeper Chris Snoddy who is injured so he cannot get in at Highworth but is playing at Zamaretto Premier level, it is funny how this game works!

In Division One of the Hellenic West Cheltenham Saracens have now taken over at the top by 3 points from Slimbridge but have played 3 games more so there is still all to play for with Purton and Wootton Bassett also still going strong. I have not really talked about the East division before this season as I have not seen anything of it but this past week I have had an experience. My old mate Lyner at Witney has had a keeper crisis and some crisis it must be as he first asked me to sign a form, then to my surprise actually asked me to play in a game! I had told him to make sure I was the last resort and that he should ask the groundsman, cleaner and cook first so I can only presume they were all busy when I got the nod. So the gloves came out after over a year of not having played a single game for Witney's league cup tie with East division side Woodley Town who I had never heard of. I looked at their stats and they had won their last 7 games on the bounce and were sat third in the league so I thought they must have something about them. To be fair I was very impressed with them, they were very organised and had a pattern to their play, were organised at set pieces and had pace going forward and had a cracking little winger who was not asked to do much defensive duties to free him up to attack every time he could. He ran at us and took players on for fun and was a real handful. We were 1-0 up and they had a man sent off so it looked like we would see it through but one ball over a square Witney back four sent their lad away and he finished well past me with 7 mins remaining. We then won a penalty in the last minute which I thought great I can get home at a reasonable time......wrong!...we missed that. No further goals were added in extra time but their keeper pulled off some great saves and the inevitable happened when it went to penalties. Their keeper pulled off two good saves, well I say two good saves.....the first one as I watched on next to the linesman by the goal he clearly moved off his line before the ball was struck then making a good save. I turned to the linesman and screamed he is off his line to which he just said "that is being pedantic"!!...excuse me but why does the linesman stand there looking along the line????...though really I should not have been surprised as just before the kicks he was moaning to me about it going to extra time and penalties as he wanted to get home!!.....as for my own penalty saving feats, well I am afraid I follow in the same line as top keepers such as Dave Seaman and Peter Shilton....I kept going the wrong way hahaha.................

Hellenic League Reserves Division 2 West Champions

MATCH REPORTSClanfield hold Bassett in check Rylands Way, 6th March 2010 The Hellenic League Division One West promotion chase continued to bewilder as Wootton Bassett Town dropped points at home for the second consecutive game, this time in a 1-1 draw with Clanfield. Bassett had taken the lead through Andy Philpott, but an equaliser from their Oxfordshire visitors , who were beaten 3- en only a couple of weeks ago, ensured the spoils were shared. After Purtons defeat last week at home to Easington Sports, Bassett had the opportunity to ensure Chris Pethicks men would only be able to go level on points with them. But this was chance was blown with another disappointing home result. The damage of only drawing was limited though as Slimbridge were held to a goalless draw at Letcombe. Cheltenham Saracens and the resurgent Headington Amateurs , both victors in their respective games , appear to be the only two sides in the top five interested in winning currently, but even then they both had wins by the slimmest of margins against strugglers Trowbridge Town and Winterbourne United respectively. It is those two sides who Bassett face next at Rylands Way and it is arguably now an imperative that both see three points gained from both games.

Dave: Here Al, cannot believe that hat Tucks is wearing today.

Al Blake: Yeah looks right silly Dave, especially the green fire exit bit.

Five wins on the bounce became six when Binfield gave Kidlington a real mauling, scoring six times through Tim Walsh, Callum Whitty with a pair and Ian Davies with a hat-trick. Jordan Parker managed a consolation effort for the visitors. Lowly Carterton were beaten by two second half goals from Witney United’s Anaclet Odhiambo and Dean Smith, after Kevin Lewis had given them a half time lead. Malmesbury Vics conceded twice in the first half through Sean McKeon and Tom Austin for the in-form WantageTown. Mike Scarff’s second half reply was not enough to alter the outcome. Marlow United were rolled over by the improving Ascot United thanks to an own goal and a Rob Saunders strike. Old Woodstock Town mugged struggling Fairford Town with two late goals from John da Silva and Nick Thorne. This was after Rhys Denton’s first half effort was cancelled out by Neil Hodgkins’ reply for the visitors. Oxford City Nomads were comfortable winners over Pegasus Juniors thanks to goals from Dan Jones and Jamie Brooks with a brace. Table toppers Reading Town hammered Shrivenham, scoring five times without reply. On target for the Town were Dean Thomas and James Clark with a pair each and Scott Rees. Shortwood United’s fading championship challenge was given a boost with a good win over Hook Norton. Despite missing numerous chances, James Baldwin, Alton Axton, Matt Green and Ross Casey were able to find the back of the net. This was after Jason Smith had given the visitors an early if unexpected lead.

With only one point separating the top four, new leaders Cheltenham Saracens consolidated their position with an entertaining 4-3 win over Trowbridge Town. On target for the Saras were Ryan Oldham, Seb Tovey, Carl Griffiths and Jamie Hammond and for the visitors, Mark Hunt grabbed a brace with Steve Hulbert completing the scoreline. Second from bottom Cirencester United were easily beaten by Tytherington Rocks thanks to Dave Legg and a James Hicks hat-trick. Easington Sports lost to Cricklade Town conceding twice without reply. Basement club Launton Sports’ woes continued after losing to Lydney Town. Mark Lee and Mike Robbins had given the visitors a two goal cushion within five minutes of the start of the game and despite Matt Green’s first half reply, the Sports were unable to get anything form the match. Letcombe held championship challengers Slimbridge to a creditable goalless draw. Winterbourne United succumbed to a first half effort from Liam Morbey for visitors, Headington Amateurs. Wootton Bassett Town’s challenge for the title was dented somewhat after a 1-1 draw with Clanfield. Andy Philpott gave Bassett a first half lead but Craig Mays’ second half reply was enough to earn the visitors a point.

Chalfont Wasps were quickly down by two goals from Jamie Piercey and Tommy Boylan for visitors, Henley Town but strikes from Kieran Webb, Dan Moakes, Tom Seddon and Fred Trip ensured maximum points for the home team. Farnborough Reserves scraped past bottom club Penn & Tylers Green by 2-1. Louis Wilson and Josh Daniels netted for the home side before Andy Savage managed to pull one back for the visitors. Finchampstead were surprisingly beaten by strugglers, Newbury. Kalief Madden and Luke Ramos had given the visitors an early lead before Gary Sargeant’s penalty just before the break reduced the deficit and despite much second half pressure, the Berkshire outfit came away with three valuable points. Third placed Milton United’s title challenge was somewhat dented after a 1-1 draw with Chinnor. Antony Alleyne had given the home side the lead early in the second half but an own goal ensured that the points were shared. Rayners Lane were turned over by strugglers Kintbury Rangers thanks to strikes from Paul Thomas, Curtis Angell and Gavin Mackie. South Kilburn lost out to Woodley Town after conceding goals from Dave Thomas and Jim Nightingale with a pair. League leaders Thame United managed a slender victory over Holyport after Stuart Braun had given them the lead in the 7th minute. Second placed Wokingham & Emmbrook kept up the pressure for the title with a 5-0 thumping of Didcot Town Reserves. On target for the Satsumas were Shane Cooper-Clark with two, Nick Bateman also with two and Rich Bland.

Hoad bags handful as under 11s run rampant Wootton Bassett Town under 11s ran all over Wanborough Juniors in their Division Two clash as they ran out 8-2 winners. Oliver Hoad led the way, netting five times, whilst Buhle Mincili Mbooi bagged a brace; Ryan Scarrott also got on the score sheet. The win moves the team into fifth. Both the under 15s and under 18Cs were involved in cup action. The latter came up agonisingly short in the Wiltshire Youth Cup semi final at FC Chippenham. Trailing by a single goal going into the final ten minutes, Bassett conceded three more as their chase for a lifeline opened up the game. The under 15s fared better though, winning their North Wilts & District League Cup quarter final contest with Bemerton Heath Harlequins 2-0. Callum Costello and Danny Fishlock were the scorers who fired Bassett into a tricky semi final date with league leaders Ferndale. A hard fought 3-1 victory over bottom side Old Town United saw the under 10A team extend their lead at the top of Division Two to four points as Stratton Youth were idle for the weekend. Tyler Fitchett added to his impressive total for the season with a brace, Jordan Wright supplying the other goal. The B team were meanwhile involved in an eight goal thriller, succumbing 5-3 at home to Highworth Town Juniors J. Declan Cox netted twice with Declan Coffey also finding the net. Joe Mitchells goal was not enough for the under 9 B side who were defeated 4-1 by Purton Youth B. The under 13 B team were well beaten, losing 6-0 to current Division One leaders Chiseldon. Meanwhile, the under 16s, still without a point in the league, were narrowly defeated by Shaw, the visitors prevailing 3-1. Up for the cup This coming weekend (March 20th/21st) gunning for a place in the final of their respective cup competitions. In the North Wilts League, the under 18A team and under 15s are vying for places at the County Ground, whilst the under 16 Girls and Ladies teams are duelling for places in showpiece of their respective County Cup competitions. The Under 16 Girls are first up as they face their nearest rivals for the league title, Trowbridge Town at Ballards Ash on Saturday (10.30am kick off). Trowbridge have twice beaten Bassett in the league, both 4-1 wins for the South Wiltshire side. But the last time the teams met, Bassett romped to a 5-2 victory. The Ladies team face tough opposition in Gloucestershire County Womens League Division One side Swindon Supermarine, who made it to the First Round s FA Cup before losing to Plymouth Argyle, in their Wiltshire Cup semi final. This takes place at Rylands Way on Sunday with kick off at 2pm. They are in cup action again next weekend (March 28th) when they take on Supermarines Division One rivals Forest of Dean Ladies at Rylands Way in the quarter final of the Gloucestershire County Womens League Knockout Cup. The Under 15s,having seen off Bemerton Heath Harlequins in their quarter final this past weekend, will look to make it five league cup finals in a row when they face current league leaders Ferndale Rodbourne on Sunday at Ballards Ash (10.30am kick off). A tricky encounter also stands between the under 18As and a place at the home of Swindon Town as they travel to Division One leaders FC Chippenham, who are on course for the treble, having booked their place in the final of the Wiltshire Youth Cup at the expense of the under 18C team. The game takes place at Stanley Park on Sunday (2.00pm kick off). As much support as possible for all four teams would be very much appreciated

HELLENIC BULLETINYOUTH SECTION IN FOCUSPaish stunners puts under 18As into semi A stunning extra time winner from Jack Paish ensured the under 18 As became Wootton Bassett Towns first youth team to book their place in the semi finals of their North Wilts League cup competition this season. His rasping 18-yard effort gave his side a 3-2 victory over Shaw after the two sides had been level at 2-2 after the original ninety minutes. Bassetts other scorers were Andy Butt and Steven Gruar. There was disappointment for the under 14s though, whose cup dreams were dashed by Croft Juniors A, who prevailed 3-1 at Ballards Ash. A rematch with last year’s winning finalists Wickham Wanderers would have been Bassetts reward had they prevailed. The under 15s have to wait till next week for their quarter final against Bemerton Heath Harlequins. In league action, a brace from Tyler Fitchett and sterling glove work from keeper Conor Chivers ensured the under 10 A side returned to winning ways at the perfect time. Last week’s unexpected draw against strugglers Shaw had extended the sides winless streak in all competitions to three, after a lengthy unbeaten start to the season. And more worryingly it had afforded Stratton Youth the opportunity to leapfrog Bassett into top spot should they win their game in hand. But Fitchetts pair and a further strike from Zach Bunce helped ensure a 3-1 away victory at their fellow title challengers, increasing the gap between the two sides back to four points. Meanwhile, despite losing 4-2 at home to Greenmeadow Youth, the under 10 Bs showed how far they have come in a matter of weeks. When the sides met three weeks ago, the league leaders triumphed 11-0. George Staten and Declan Cox registered themselves on the score sheet for the home side. A crushing 8-0 away win at Purton put the under 18 C team back on top of Division Two. Jack Ellis was Bassetts main protagonist, scoring four, with two from Robbie Ali and solo strikes from Jacob Hayden and Elliot Wheatley finishing off the rout. The B team had the chance to leapfrog Tetbury Town and also do the C team a favour, but saw their recent run of good form come to an end with a 5-1 home defeat. Adam Topping netted the consolation. An emphatic 8-1 win for the under 16 Girls side away to Derry Hill increased their lead over Trowbridge Town, who have three games in hand, at the top of the league to six points. Last week, they booked their place in the semi-finals of the League Cup with a 3-1 victory against FC Chippenham Youth. The under 13 Girls meanwhile were beaten 5-1 by table toppers Trowbridge Town. A 3-0 defeat to Melksham Town, currently second in the league, curtailed their cup hopes a week ago. The under 13 B team wasted an opportunity to pull themselves away from the Division One relegation zone as they were held to a 1-1 draw by bottom side Purton. An Oliver Hoad goal was not enough for the under 11s, who lost more ground to the Division Two frontrunners as they lost 4-1 at home to Highworth Town Juniors H. The under 9 As winless streak was extended to seven games with a 4-0 loss against Ashton Keynes, which also saw Bassetts hosts leapfrog them into seventh place. FC Chippenham made sure the under 16s woes continued, showing no mercy by inflicting a 4-0 defeat upon Bassett.

Bulletin No 033/2009-2010 Boot Room Chatter 14th MARCH 2010

Abingdon Town drew with Pegasus Juniors in a dour goalless encounter. Ardley United’s Danny Mason and Troy Bryan hit the only goals in the first half of their match against Kidlington. Ascot United were hoping to give title challengers Almondsbury Town a run for their money and after going down to an early Dean Griffiths strike, did well to collect a point thanks to a Rob Saunders 2nd half equaliser. Bottom club Bicester Town were looking to get something from their encounter with Malmesbury Vics and after going behind to Chris Oke’s second half effort, a Rich Young reply ensured the draw and a valuable point. Carterton were 3-1 victors over Marlow United in an absorbing encounter. On target for the home side were Kevin Lewis, Mike Duerden and Chris Zoldan, with Jamie West replying for the visitors via the penalty spot. Struggling Fairford Town kept high flying Wantage Town at bay for 80 minutes but eventually succumbed to the only goal of the game from super-sub Danny Keen. Shortwood United had to wait for a second half Craig Cole penalty kick to take the points at Flackwell Heath to keep their slender title hopes alive. Oxford City Nomads drew 1-1 with top of the table Reading Town. A Mark Hughes’s opener for the visitors was cancelled out by Pete Nagy’s equaliser. Witney United succumbed to two first half efforts form Binfield’s Callum Whitty and Ian Davies. The Moles now have an enviable eight game winning streak in the league.

Strugglers Cirencester United lost out to a late strike from Easington Sports’ Greg Shawyer. Clanfield lost 0-2 to Tytherington Rocks after going behind to an early Danny Clarke opener and giving away an own goal early in the second period. Cricklade Town were no match for title challengers Slimbridge, conceding three times without reply courtesy of Rob Hine, Tom Cole and Adam Philp. Lydney Town just lost to top of the table Cheltenham Saracens after conceding the only goal of the game from Jamie Hammond early in the first period. North Leigh Reserves were 2-0 up against Purton, thanks to Ben Reardon and Harry Burnley but three second half strikes from Paul Day, Warren Fuller and Steve Avenall gave Purton’s title challenge a welcome boost. Trowbridge Town lost 4-2 to Letcombe in an entertaining encounter. On target for the home side were Tom Bonsor and Booker Woodford and for the visitors, Luke Faircloth, Tom Patten, Josh Cottrell and Mark Denny. Winterbourne United hammerred basement outfit Launton Sports, scoring seven without reply courtesy of a Jimmy Potts four-timer, Sam Vile, Nick Waters and Neil Ward.

FTL FUTBOL Division One (East) Chinnor lost to Henley Town after Jamie Piercey scored the only goal of the match in the 2nd half. Eton Wick were victors against Newbury after an own goal and a Hamish Harris strike. Holyport overcame Chalfont Wasps by the odd goal in seven in a thrilling encounter. Tom Seddon and Fred Trip with two had given the visitors a comfortable 3-0 lead but a fantastic rearguard action by the home side saw Jamie Handscomb with two, Alan Akerman and Lee Jerrum overturn the score for the victory. Kintbury Rangers left it late in their fixture against Didcot Town. Adam Bell gave the home side a 1st half lead and after Paul Powell equalised the match was heading for a draw, but, late strikes from Curtis Angell and Nick Lukacs ensured the victory. Bottom of the pack Penn & Tylers were no match for title hopefuls Wokingham & Emmbrook. Danny Horscroft with two, Ben Rice and Shane Cooper-Clark all scored for the visitors before Ricky Puttnam’s very late consolation reply for the home side. South Kilburn scraped a draw with Farnborough after Scott Young’s late equaliser cancelled out Louis Bell’s opening goal. League leaders Thame cruised past Finchampstead, scoring three times without reply, courtesy of Nick Rhodes and a Luke Ricketts brace.

City Nomads on a run of five games without defeat and having beaten title challengers, Almondsbury Town convincingly in mid-week this was always going to be a tricky away game for leaders Reading Town. Nomads started brightly but after only 8 minutes, went behind when keeper Milan Barisic came out to pick up a loose ball on the edge of the area but as he bent down a defender panicked under pressure and tapped the ball into his arms. The resulting free kick for the back pass infringement rebounded off the defending wall and the resulting cross found the unmarked Mark Hughes at the far post who headed home to give Reading the lead. This seemed to give the Berkshire outfit a confidence boost and they provided much of the attack for the rest of the half but the only shots on goal came from outside the area. However, Ross Heritage found himself twice one-on-one with keeper Barisic but each time was thwarted. The equaliser came against the run of play when a free kick after 30 minutes found Peter Nagy rising above the defence to head into the corner of the net. Nomads had the ascendancy in the second half creating the better half-chances and they had the edge for long spells but just could not create the final opening. With 15 minutes remaining, Reading showed real determination and threw themselves forward trying to !

TOUCHLINE - LATEST ISSUE UNDER 18 FLOODLIT LEAGUE

WBTFC Newsletter Volume 6, January 2010 WBTFC.CO.UK

Youth teams: On April 9th 2010 the club will undertake the 22nd Holland Tour when we visit our friends at Gravenzandse SV Football Club, returning on the 14th.

This trip will be the reverse of last years visit to England by the Dutch during which the club played host to 45 youngsters and 15 adults. This year we shall be taking around 40 players between the ages of 12 & 16 along with 14 adults all of whom will be staying with Dutch families. When the idea of the exchange visits between WBTFC & Gravenzandse was realised the prospect of finding host families and organising their trip whilst in the UK is not to be underestimated. On this occasion the club and the parents of the players really excelled. Our Dutch visitors were overwhelmed with the welcome that they received and the hospitality offered to them. My mind goes back to the party that we had at Ryland’s Way. We had meetings to sort out things such as the football tournament and some entertainment but Pete’s suggestion of the pig roast was inspired, it truly was a great evening. We did such a good job in fixing together a random collection of gazebos and tents that we were later asked if the ‘marquee’ was for hire.

Next April’s trip will undoubtedly be another great success. This won’t be down to luck or good fortune but because people such as Pete Yeardley and Chris Kirkland put so much effort into making it what has become one of the highlights of our season. For a small club to arrange for its players to play football abroad year after year is quite a tribute to everyone concerned, but without the support of the players and their families it couldn’t happen. For further information about the trip please drop a note to Nigel Deane through our web site: (click here).

Nigel Deane – Deputy Section Head of Youth Football

Senior teams: A very Happy New Year, I hope you all enjoyed the Xmas and New Year festivities and are refreshed ready for the run in to the end of the season. I must take this opportunity to mention some good news. Firstly our congratulations to Kara (our physio) and Ben Gregory on the birth of their baby son, we look forward to Kara’s return early in the New Year, and secondly to Amy Tye who has passed her physio exam and is now the youngest physio in the Hellenic league. On the football front the 1st team is sitting in 4th place and has now been unbeaten in 10 games. The next few games will be critical and whilst we will only look at the short term we are hoping that a good Jan and Feb will put us firmly in promotion contention. Certainly morale within the team is high as those who attended the xmas bash with the team dressing in fancy dress (including management) would have seen. Focussing on the reserves, Simon Paish and Simon Packer have come into senior management and are in a transition period. Their remit is to play and develop a very young team, introducing them to senior football. Although the league position is not good I am delighted with their efforts and I am sure that this will be rewarded in the latter part of the season and into next. The under 18s floodlit are doing remarkably well considering the age of the team (I am sure we must be the youngest team in the league) and I know that Danny is extremely proud, as we all our, in their performances. The much required refurbishment work has now been started and I have now made the decision that the end of season presentation will be held at Ryland’s way this year. This will allow much need income into the Association. As always, please support the senior section, bring along the kids and let them enjoy local football – it MAY SURPRISE YOU!!!!

Chris Jones – Section Head of Senior Football

Welcome: Well, with such a prolonged cold snap, preceded by wet pitches, it seems like some time since our teams were out there on the park. And indeed it may well be a few weeks yet before games re-commence in anger. This of course leads to fixture congestion, and spare a thought for the league fixture secretary’s who must really be up against it. Of course, it’s happened before, and will no doubt do so again, but it is likely to mean a very busy March and April. However, despite that, your club continues to operate, and I’m delighted to introduce this latest edition of our in house newsletter. We’ve hopefully covered all areas of club activity, but please do contact if you have any questions regarding club operations. We are though concerned that Touchline does not get distributed to all our members, and the current weather will not help in that, so please do pass copies on should you be aware of that problem and feedback to us so we can ensure better distribution next time. Paul H - Chairman

WBSA: Work has commenced on redecorating the interior of the club house, old heating systems have been replaced, and work has started on moving toilets to make room for the bar extension. We hope to have all this complete by end of May this year so please pay a visit when you have some free time to take a look at progress. Our aim is to improve the environment to attract families, but also to add a lick of paint to make a more welcoming environment.

After another month of inactivity caused by the weather the U18's started their March fixtures against Supermarine managed by last year's U18 Manager Ken Turner. We went into the game on the back of a run of 9 undefeated games but didn't look anything like a team with this record as a woeful display ensured we suffered our heaviest defeat of the season 5-1 .Supermarine were better in every area of the pitch and thoroughly deserved their win. The only bright spot for us was another goal from Sam Farr (his 5th in the last 6 games). Although it was disappointing to lose in the manner we did, it should be remembered that at the start of the match were at the summit of the league which is a superb effort as the majority of the team are U16's and have performed brilliantly all season.

The next game against Corsham gave us the chance to avenge the two points dropped in the 1-1 draw at their place in October. Regrettably the match was referred appallingly and in a good natured game how 9 players were booked and two sent off was mind boggling. It was one of the worst refereeing displays I have seen in over 30 years in football. We seemed to be carrying a hangover from the Supermarine match and if anything the first half display was worse than that against Supermarine and saw us 2-0 behind at the break against a team that haven't won a match all season. However after a couple of half time changes and a change of formation the second half showed just what we are capable of. Within 10 minutes of the restart we were level through strikes from Danny Hale and Brad Hooper before conceding a poor third. Man of the match James Smith then immediately equalised with a superbly taken goal and then it was all one way traffic which saw us score two more through Hale again and Kyle Pitts to run out 5-3 winners and record our 8th win.

I'd also like to take the opportunity to mention that I was involved with a very young Reserve side at Wantage last weekend and saw them win 3-1 against a good Wantage side. Out of the 14 who featured 9 have played in the Floodlit team in the past three years with 5 of this years squad playing and performing well in the match. One thing that struck me was despite a disappointing season for the Reserves in terms of results the attitude of the lads was fantastic and I was thoroughly impressed with the management team of Paishy and Simon Packer and how they constantly encouraged and communicated with the young players. With the current crop of U16's potentially being available next season I believe the future is looking good as long as we can keep these lads together and allow them the opportunity to progress further.

Cheers

RESERVES IN FOCUS TOUCHLINE - LATEST ISSUELadies & Girls: All three Bassett sides have started this season well, with the U13 girls in 3rd place while both the U16 & ladies sides sit 2nd in their respective leagues. With these three sides now looking very stable my attention moves back to getting an U11or U10 girls team up and running, and I have now targeted late January or early February taster session on Saturday mornings at Ballards Ash . Again anyone interested in helping run a team or could help put the word out about girls football for school years 5 & 6 can contact me via the club website www.WBTFC.CO.UK using the “contact us” button on the top right hand side of the club home page or (click here).

I don’t believe it: With so many games now falling foul to the wet weather, how reassuring it was that at least your training is safe on the all weather astro pitch. Well not any more as just the other week when we all got to training to find gates locked and a note on the gate saying training cancelled due to astro being flooded. And so the old saying to be used now is,

It never rains but pours

Club development: The club will be taking a further step forward in 2010, for the first time WBTFC have formally entered into agreements with local schools to provide football coaching as part of the Wiltshire Council School Sports Partnership (SSP) as well as the WCFA School Club Link. Delivery will be run and managed on the back of, what is becoming a very successful, Community Football program. I can also communicate changes within the Wilts County FA Football Development team, Barry Stephens has decided to take early retirement and has been replaced by Miss Emma Small who is now the Football Development manager. Also, Kirsty Brammer has decided to move to “England Hockey” and has been replaced by Mr Stephen Neale as the County Development Manager. We are looking forward to working closely with Emma and Stephen as we move forward. The WCFA have been driving Age Appropriate coaching, WBTFC very much support this new style, to date we have had very positive feedback from those who have attended. If you would like to find out more click here or take a look at the WCFA web site. www.wiltshirefa.comI can confirm that last quarter’s objectives have been completed bar the completion of the development plan update, at the time of writing this article this has now been completed and issued. Our objectives for the next quarter consist of: 1) Complete the football development update 2) Draft Managers Booklet, 3) Complete the link between Community Football and local schools 4) Arrange meetings with the new appointments at WCFA.

Andy Walduck – Club Development Officer

January’s Joke: A full back with a reputation for being a really hard man on the pitch was sent off during a match. Returning to the changing room, he had a terrible leg.

It was covered in cuts and bruises and had a massive gash from the top of the thigh to the knee. He had no idea whose it was!

www.wbtfc.co.uk: I guess with any club which relies on volunteers it’s difficult to keep a web site up to date. However WBTFC.co.uk has taken some significant steps forward. The site now holds an extensive club history which is ever expanding as new information comes to light, also recently, links into disabled football through the development page tab as well as the latest team fixtures for all our clubs teams which are updated weekly. I also encourage you to take a look at the “The 'Noughties'” page which makes an interesting read. We have also placed a message board against each age group which is accessible by any web browser or smart phone offering team selection and the latest team / coaching news. All of the above would not be possible without the commitment from Mark, Scott and Stuart Smedley who update and manage the site so regularly, please take a look when you have some free time.

Relocation Update: The relocation of our Sports Association from Rylands Way to land opposite Ballards Ash continues to be frustrated by the economic climate. However it is a case of when rather than if, and with the prospect of 3 full size pitches and 2 mini-pitches at the new site it will allow our development plans for the club to continue and most importantly bring us all playing together on one site. It is hoped that as the economy and housing market continue to recover that progress on the relocation will re-start by the end of 2010.

Andy Walduck, WBTFC Relocation Rep

Sponsor Focus: C.S Building Services Ltd has been supporting WBTFC for many years in fact one of the partners, Steve Twine, has played for our club. Steve is a local lad and is also known for his support of the Town’s Cricket Club, but he finds the time, through the winter, to watch 1st team football and is one of our top 3 club sponsors. WBTFC would like to take this opportunity to formally thank C.S Building Services for their continued support. C.S Building Services focus on both large projects such as extensions or loft conversions, and home improvements, or smaller projects like garage conversions, building internal walls, groundwork and preparation, carpentry and joinery. C.S Building Services are a local business so please ask Steve for a quote for your building works.

WBTFC is committed in driving the awareness of football within the Community therefore seeks to offer playing opportunities for all. Even though WBTFC is one of the largest football clubs in the area and an FA Charter Standard Community Club, on occasions the club needs to build partnerships with other local clubs to support specific activities, opportunities or special needs that the club alone cannot yet deliver. WBTFC can now offer a formal link into "Football for the Disabled" which is driven by the Wiltshire County Football Association and supported by Swindon Town's Football in The Community scheme.

WBTFC's current approach to disabled football will be to drive agreed objectives through our football development plan which will embrace football for the disabled by offering usage of facilities, improving awareness through advertising within our own web site and local schools partnerships programs. Our short to medium term focus will be:

1. Establish links / partnerships with local disabled football community;

2. Establish links with Special Need Units (SNU) with main stream schools;

3. Provide access for disabled football supporters which is focused on our pending new facilities.

Within the Wiltshire community there are a number of football programmes and clubs that cater football for the disabled they are:

The Mitchell Mccarthy Ability Counts Soccer Centre Adults ability counts SEN Coaching Programme & Festival Swindon Rockets (Powerchair Football) Swindon Leopards Ability Counts FC Salisbury City Tigers (Adult Learning Disability Team) Deaf Swindon FC Visually Impaired Football

If you would like to know more about football for the disabled please go to http://www.stfc-fitc.co.uk, or if you wish to seek some advice please use the details below to make contact.
