Item Name: Foundation revisions, crawlspace access & additional soil stabilization plans Description:
• Added crawlspace access locations for both the East & West buildings. • Soil Stabilization Plans have been further developed and more detail added. • Added #5 rebar at typical pile detail over pile and added grade beam stirrups. • Trash compactor foundation clarified at exterior ramp. • Grade beam GB3 (2’-0” x 3’-0”) has been added at gridline 5 and gridline 6 at the East
Building. • New building sections have been added on sheet S2.00E & S2.01E & S2.02E. • Added rebar at grade beams per revised sheet S2.03E. • Reduced concrete retaining wall at detail 5/S204E. • Clarified retaining wall detail at East building East entrance. Reference new detail
2/S2.05E. Note: The costs for all pull/load testing and documentation for the soil nails and the micro-piles is to be included in GSI’s scope of work under the responsibility of the GC. If you have any questions, comments, and/or corrections please notify our office immediately.

1.3 EXECUTION
A. Equipment
1. Soil nails shall be installed with equipment designed and capable of drilling hollow
bar X or T thread with continuous grout circulation through the bar and drill hole
anulus while drilling.
2. Shotcrete to be wet-mix process consisting of thoroughly mixing all the ingredients,
introducing the mixture into the delivery equipment, and delivering it, by positive
displacement, to the nozzle. Air jet the wet-mix shotcrete from the nozzle at high
velocity onto the surface. Shotcrete to be placed from the lower part of the area
upwards to prevent accumulation of rebound.
3. Grout shall be mixed and pumped with double tub or colloidal shear grout mixing
equipment design and capable of delivering consistent, quality grout mix.
B. Installation
1. General Sequence
i. Excavate first lift (typically 4’-5’) where depicted and surveyed based on
project drawings
ii. Drill row of soil nails,
iii. Prepare facing reinforcement (welded wire mesh and rebar),
iv. Place shotcrete to nominal thickness and reinforcement coverage
requirements,
v. Excavate next lift (typically 5’ lifts) and repeat steps ii through iv.
2. Details/dimensions/etc. of soil nail and shotcrete wall provided in the project
drawings.
C. Quality Control
1. Soil Nail Testing
i. Install one sacrificial soil nail before production installation.
ii. With GSI approval production soil nails can be installed while waiting the 72
hours to test the verification nail.
iii. Proof testing shall occur on at least 5% of production soil nails. 48 hour wait
for grout cure to test any production nail.
iv. Verification and proof testing to be performed and accepted based on
FHWH-NHI-14-007 Section 9.4.
2. Grout Testing – Per ASTM C109
i. Obtain and test one set of grout cubes.
ii. Test 3, 7, and 28-day grout compressive strength.
3. Shotcrete Testing – Per ASTM C1140
i. Prepare and shoot two test panels.
ii. Panel shall be minimum inner dimensions of 24” x 24” square, 3.5” depth
and made of wood.
iii. Use 2x4 lumber and ¾” plywood for back panel.
iv. Core and compressive test shotcrete cores from both panels at 3, 7, and 28-
day.

ii. Drill soil nails,
iii. Prepare fabric and mesh,
iv. Install spike plates and tighten hex nuts with ratchet wrench or 100 to 250
ft-lb air wrench.
2. Details/dimensions/etc. of pinned mesh provided in the project drawings.
C. Quality Control
1. Soil Nail Testing
i. Install one sacrificial soil nail before production installation.
ii. With GSI approval production soil nails can be installed while waiting the 72
hours to test the verification nail.
iii. Proof testing shall occur on at least 5% of production soil nails. 48 hour wait

B. Installation
1. General Sequence
i. Drill micropiles as depicted on the project drawings and surveyed,
1. T76N hollow bar and 5.5” casing with No. 10 inner bar is
interchangeable per contractor approach.
2. X51, X38, and/or T40N hollow bar not interchangeable, drill as
shown on drawings.
ii. Where casing micropiles are drilled install solid bar anchor within casing
section as depicted on project drawings and tremie grout inside of casing,
iii. Place two hex nuts and a plate on each micropile bar head.
2. Details/dimensions/etc. of micropiles provided in the project drawings.
C. Quality Control
1. Micropile Testing
i. Install two sacrificial vertical hollow bar micropiles before production
installation.
ii. With GSI approval production micropiles can be installed while waiting the
72 hours to test the verification piles.
iii. Proof testing shall occur on at least 5% of vertical production hollow bar
bearing micropiles. 48 hour wait for grout cure to test any production pile.
iv. Verification and proof testing to be performed and accepted based on
FHWH NHI-05-039 Section 7.4.
