SEPTEMBER 14, 2013 MEETING PHOTOSCharley Goodwin aka cwolfs69 demonstrated how to apply both a label and a waterslide decal.

Labels and decals printed with an ink jet printer need to be sealed with an acrylic spray prior to applying to pens. There are a variety of brand names and types of sprays that can be applied to the labels and decals.

TURN FOR TROOPS - Each year Woodcraft stores nation wide open their doors to any and all who wish to turn a pen in their store, and the pens are shipped off to our troops overseas. Woodcraft generates thou-sands of pens every year for this project.

In preparation for this great event, we are doing our share to help Norfolk Woodcraft by turning pens on November 2 as a club. To help us kick off our Pens for Troops meeting, Jason Gantner (aka jasontg99) currently employed by the US Navy, will share his techniques for applying Cya-noacrylate Glue aka CA fi nish to pens. We hope you can join us, all skill levels are invited, mentoring will be available for beginners. ___________________________________________________________

Woodcraft is also having their 10th Anniversary Sale and Celebration Fri-day - Sunday, November 1, 2, and 3. See their website for more details.

Cyanoacrylate is the generic name for a family of strong fast-acting adhe-sives with industrial, medical and household uses. Cyanoacrylate adhe-sives have a short shelf life if not used, about one year from manufacture if unopened, one month once opened. They have some minor toxicity.Cyanoacrylates include methyl 2-cyanoacrylate, ethyl-2-cyanoacrylate (commonly sold under trade names such as “Super Glue” and “Krazy Glue”), n-butyl cyanoacrylate and 2-octyl cyanoacrylate (used in medical, veterinary and fi rst aid applications). Octyl cyanoacrylate was developed to address toxicity concerns and to reduce skin irritation and allergic re-sponse. The abbreviation “CA” is commonly used for industrial grades.
