What is Edit Graphics?

• Project Matrix• Material Application

• SketchUp Warehouse• Material Application• Size Manipulation

• Custom Tools• Replacing Graphics

Use with Other Tools:Edit Graphics is compatible with other tools that may not be as customizable on their own

Tool to manually edit and customize components in your project• Change the size or properties • Apply materials• Merge different components

together to create something new

• Enhance visual elements to communicate your designs

Beginning Steps

Make Editable

• The first step that allows revisions to the components and its meshes

Revert

• Returning the object to its original properties

Graphics Only

• Remove all information (price, description, etc.), leaving only the graphics

Replace Graphics

• Borrow the graphics of one object to change the appearance of another

Shrink / Stretch

• Make Object Editable

• Highlight area you want changed• Stretch to increase or decrease the

size

Cutplanes

• A cutplane allows you to define the plane that is being modified

• It can be placed on the X, Y, or Z axis; multiple cutplanes can be added (blue) or removed (red)

• This tool can be helpful when you want to change something about the object while keeping other attributes the same. Examples:

Adding a cutplane changes just the cylinder of the chair while keeping the

other attributes the same

The simple stretch tool morphes the overall shape of the chair

• Cylinder of chair to

make a stool

• Create more space in

between shelves on a

bookcase

• Change the size of a pedestal without

stretching the handle pulls

Workplanes

• Workplanes can be added to the 2D or 3D object to create a new orientation/angle

• Works well when you need to create a cutplane on a different axis than the default X, Y, or Z

Step 1: Add a Workplane Step 2: Add a Cutplane Step 3: Stretch

• Often used with workstations that have an unusual angle (120*)

Split Mesh

• Tool used to separate meshes of a single component

• Split based on the surface, piece, or X, Y, Z axis

Fuse Mesh//

• Tool used to join meshes together to make one component

• Ctrl key + the meshes you want fused

• Great tools for the application of finishes, partial or total selection, or deleting certain parts of an object

• Make Object Editable• Split Mesh if needed• Select a mesh, and rename• Useful tool when appying materials

Rename Tool

How the meshes come in can be

hard to differentiateRenaming meshes helps distinguish which is which

Delete Tool

• Make Object Editable• Have single mesh selected

// Copy/Cut Tool

• Hover over the mesh you want deleted, it will turn red- select to delete

Copy:• Make Object Editable• Select the mesh to copy, and paste

to where you need itCut:• ”Borrow” something from another

component• Make Object Editable• Select the mesh to cut from the one

object, and paste on to the other

//

• Rotate on the X, Y, Z axis

• Can be done in either 2D or 3D

Rotate Tool Move Tool

Rotate a single mesh Rotate the entire object

• Move a mesh along the X, Y, Z axis

• Change the location or elevation for visual and rendering purposes

• Detach or Unite the mesh to the object as needed

• Sometimes easier to do in 2D

Finishing Touches

• Right click and ”Query” an object you changed to make a special • Insert quote number and description• Change ind. tag to match special

• Save an edited object as a favorite to reuse in the future• ”Save as Favorite”• ”Insert a Favorite”
