The Abegg Trio was founded in 1976 at theHanover College of Music and Theatre. Thetrio received awards in Colmar (1977), Gen-eva (1977), Bonn (1979), Bordeaux (1981),Hanover (1986), and Zwickau (1992). Theywent on concert tours to Europe, north andsouth America, Asia and Africa and attendednumerous festivals such as the Rheingau andthe Schleswig-Holstein Music Festivals, theLudwigsburg Schlossfestspiele, the VienneseMusiksommer, Styriarte Graz, the BregenzFestival, the Engadin Konzertwochen, theWürzburg and Heidelberg Mozart-Festwo-chen, and the Lower Saxony and KasselMusiktage.
Since 1982 the Abegg Trio has been widelyrepresented on record and CD: more than20 recordings include individual works byHaydn, Louise Farrenc, Clara Schumann,Fanny Hensel, Berwald, Kiel, Goetz, Dvo-rák, Smetana, Janácek, Debussy, Ravel,Henze, Acker, Killmayer, Rihm and Erd-mann and the complete piano trio cycles byMozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn,Schumann and Brahms. The Mozart pianotrios were chosen by the magazine Stereoplayas the recommended recording, Audio chosethe Brahms recording as the CD of themonth, in the best recordings list of 1995 of
the Süddeutsche Zeitung Joachim Kaiserchose the Schubert CD by the Abegg Trio ashis “disc of the year”, and on five occasionsrecordings with trios by Beethoven, Fanny& Felix Mendelssohn, Smetana, Janácek,Debussy and Ravel received awards from thePreis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik(German music critics’ award).
In addition to their extensive concert acti-vities Ulrich Beetz and Gerrit Zitterbart areprofessors lecturing in music: Beetz takes achamber music class at the Weimar Conser-vatory and Zitterbart lectures piano in Ha-nover. And as a threesome the Abegg Triopass on their experience to the younger gene-ration in international master classes.
