ANGELSPart 2

“It is foolish to worship angels but it is equally foolish to ignore them.”

- Bill Johnson

FOUR reasons why the world is enamored with angels:

1. Spirit of HOPELESSNESS 2. Spirit of SELFISHNESS 3. Spirit of the NEW AGE 4. Spirit of CURIOSITY

1. Angels are innumerable in number.

Revelation 5:11 Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne…and the number

of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands

2. Angels always appeared in the masculine gender in the Bible.

Matthew 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels of God in heaven.

3. Angels never age.

Mark 16:4-5 But when they looked up, they

saw that the stone had been rolled away—for it was very large. 5 And entering the tomb, they saw

a young man clothed in a long white robe sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed.

4. Angels have great strength and power.

2 Kings 19:14-19, 35 And it came to pass on a certain night that the angel of the LORD went out, and killed in the camp

of the Assyrians one hundred and eighty-five thousand; and when

people arose early in the morning, there were the corpses—all dead.

5. Angels are sent to resource us.

Hebrews 1:14 Therefore, angels are only servants—spirits sent to care for people who will

inherit salvation.

A. They are commissioned to PROTECT us.

Psalm 91:11 - For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go.

B. They are commissioned to HELP us.

Acts 5:17-20 – The high priest and his officials…were filled with jealousy. 18 They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail. 19 But an angel of the Lord came at night, opened the gates of the jail, and brought them out. Then he told them, 20 “Go to the Temple and give the people this message of life!”

C. They are involved in CONVERSION.

Acts 8:26-28 – As for Philip, an angel of the Lord said to him, “Go south down the desert road that runs from Jerusalem to Gaza.” 27 So he started out, and he met the treasurer of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under the Kandake, the queen of Ethiopia. The eunuch had gone to Jerusalem to worship, 28 and he was now returning. Seated in his carriage, he was reading aloud from the book of the prophet Isaiah.

D. They are used by God as an instrument of JUDGMENT.

Acts 12:21-23 – When the day arrived, Herod put on his royal robes, sat on his throne, and made a speech to them. 22 The people gave him a great ovation, shouting, “It’s the voice of a god, not of a man!” 23 Instantly, an angel of the Lord struck Herod with a sickness, because he accepted the people’s worship instead of giving the glory to God. So he was consumed with worms and died.

E. They are commissioned to bring REASSURANCE.

Acts 27:21-24 – No one had eaten for a long time. Finally, Paul called the crew together and said, “Men, you should have listened to me in the first place and not left Crete. You would have avoided all this damage and loss. 22 But take courage! None of you will lose your lives, even though the ship will go down. 23 For last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me, 24 and he said, ‘Don’t be afraid, Paul, for you will surely stand trial before Caesar! What’s more, God in his goodness has granted safety to everyone sailing with you.’

F. They are commissioned to MINISTER to us.

Hebrews 1:14 - Therefore, angels are only servants—spirits sent to care for people who will inherit salvation.
