Top 7 Temples in Himachal-Pradesh
Famously called the ‘Abode of the Gods’, the northern Indian state of
Himachal Pradesh, which is situated amidst the ranges of the snow
capped mountains of the Himalayas, is blessed with a great number of
ancient Hindu temples.
Top 7 Temples in Himachal Pradesh
The charming land of this mountainous state with lush green
meadows and singing streams is blessed with more than 2,000
Hindu temples. Here, I have enlisted the top 7 temples in
Himachal Pradesh.
1. Chamunda Devi Temple, Kangra
Situated on the bank of the Baner River in Kangra, the Chamunda
Devi Temple, which was constructed in the 16th century, is a
renowned ancient sacred shrine. It is notable that the Chamunda
Devi is regarded as a manifestation of Durga or Shakti. Besides
this, the temple is also regarded as the dwelling place of Shakti
and Lord Shiva. Hence, this temple is also referred to as the
Chamunda Nandikeshwar Dham.
2. Naina Devi Temple, Bilaspur
Counted among the most renowned ancient temples of the
northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, the Naina Devi
Temple, which is nestled in the district of Bilaspur, is regarded as
one of 51 Shaktipeethas on Earth where the limbs of Sati fell.
With no worry for the months of cold winter, this ancient temple
is visited by a great number of devotees all the year round. The
duration of Chaitra and Ashwin Navratras, and the Shravan
Ashtami is the best time for paying a holy visit to this ancient
temple.
3. Baijnath Temple, Palampur, Kangra
Being a well famous shrine of Lord Shiva, the Baijnath Temple,
which is situated close to Palampur within the valley of the Beas
River, is counted among the most visited Hindu temples in this
mountainous state. As per the claim of the inscription on the wall
of the temple, two merchants named Manyuka and Ahuka
constructed this great temple in the 13th century. The site of this
temple had a shrine of Lord Shiva before the construction of this
present temple.
4. Jwalamukhi Temple, Kangra
Wonderfully nestled on the ridge called Kali Dhar near Kangra,
the Jwalamukhi Temple of Himachal Pradesh, which has a dome
and high pinnacles with 3 ft deep square pit in the interior
covered by pathway around it, is most renowned for the
continuously burning blue flame originating in the rock sanctum.
5. Jakhu Temple, Shimla
Attracting thousands of devotees each year, the Jakhoo Temple,
which is located atop the Jakhoo Hill in Shimla, the capital of the
northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, is an ancient temple,
dedicated to Lord Hanuman (Monkey God). Here, you can find a
great number of monkeys roaming here and there.
6. Hadimba Temple, Dhungri, Manali
Dedicated to Hidimbi, the wife of Bhima, one of Pandava
Brothers, the Hadimba Temple, which is situated at the Dhungri
Van Vihar in Manali, is one of the most visited ancient temples of
Manali as well as the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.
On this site, Bhima and Hadimba passed a year together after
their wedding. Because of being situated at the Dhungri Van
Vihar, this ancient temple, which is associated with the legend of
the great Indian Epic Mahabharata, is also referred to as the
Dhungri Temple.
7. Lakhshmi Narayan Temple, Chamba
Situated in Chamba, the Lakshmi Narayan Temple, which is
dedicated to Lord Vishnu, is visited by a great number of devotees
each year. Constructed in the 10th century, this ancient temple,
which is regarded to be constructed by Raja Sahil Verma, owns
Lord Vishnu’s idol, made of marble stones brought from the
Vindhya Mountains by the sons of the king as per the legend.
This ancient temple is counted among the most visited holy
shrines in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.
On the basis of the temples mentioned above, it can be surely said
