Project Problem

• Proaktiva and STPA have identified emission of harmful gases and particulates from transportation as one of the primary reasons for air pollution in our cities.

• Transportation is also culpable for other serious urban issues including noise, vibration, visual (aesthetic) degradation and the space usurpation.

• Increased use of individual vehicles translates into traffic congestion, lower average speeds, longer times required to go between two points, increased use of natural resources and further emission of pollutants.

• Despite poor economic conditions in our countries and the increasing monetary costs of private vehicle use, the car remains synonymous with success and therefore will continue increase in number, unless this perception is changed.

Project Goal

The overall goal of this project was to relieve traffic and transportation problems through the implementation of sustainable development principles.

This was achieved:

– Through joint cooperation with the key stakeholders to raise the public awareness about the transport related consequences and their impact on the environment, economy and human health

– To promote public transportation and alternative modes of transportation, as a more sustainable means of transport

– To initiate a change in perceptions about use of private vehicles
