Several years ago, as the CEO of a small web development services company, I was faced with the task of creating a campaign for child users based on a gamification platform designed to gather a great deal of information from a single user. The information accumulated from the children consisted of points, trophies, competition boards and so on. The kids compete with one another and track their progress in the number of trophies they acquired. Eventually the application was used by tens of thousands of users, constantly creating new data.

The Case of Back&: The Admin Tool
Several years ago, as the CEO of a small web development services company, I was faced with the task of creating a campaign for child users based on a gamification platform designed to gather a great deal of information from a single user. The information accumulated from the children consisted of points, trophies, competition boards and so on. The kids compete with one another and track their progress in the number of trophies they acquired. Eventually the application was used by tens of thousands of users, constantly creating new data.
The Missing LinkThe solution we initially created consisted solely of a front-end component to be used by our business users. Once we were online, it became clear that our product must be enhanced in order to allow our customers to support their own users’ demands and adjust to changing circumstances in real time. This required the development of an admin tool with two main capabilities in mind:

1 – Product Support
As more and more end users began to log into the website, it became crucial to equip our customers with the ability to support a wide array of the campaign owners’ and end users’ requests. Our client’s support operators had limited technical skills and needed a user-friendly admin tool that can update the back-end database at will in order to influence the application’s front-end in real time. For example, since this project was affected by the amount of physical merchandise in stock, it was necessary to be able to update the database with changes in supply quantities so that the front-end can react accordingly.
2 – Service Performance Reports
The exponential growth of the site’s activity raised the need for the application owner to have complete visibility into the campaign performance. The solution was to build a back-end reporting system that provides different parameters such as the number of users, usage patterns and more.
